It's Raining....Umbrella or Rain Coat?  

Dear Gina,

Once in a while when we are caught in the 'sudden' rain,
we have to continue walking and enjoyed the rain, but
from what I heard, it is advisable to immediately take
a hot bath once reach home. This is to cleansed our body
from the 'chemical that are in the rain due to pollution'
and avoid from getting cold!

everything else gets wet! Wearing a raincoat offers complete
protection from head to toe except the face...lol

Men normally keep a large golf umbrella in their car.
My hubby used to keep two umbrellas, one the normal
'single' umbrella and one large 'golf' umbrella in
case it rains. However, I find that the 'XL' golf
umbrella is too heavy for me and it might hurt others
especially during raining days at crowded area.

Normally for school boys, they will keep a folded
rain coat in their bags. Talking about rain coat,
it reminds me of an experience in Shanghai.

When we were in the city of Shanghai, the tour guide
let us have 2 hours of 'free & easy' to go shopping.
It was raining when we are at the shopping streets.
In one of the shop, a Chinese young guy ( a sealer
promoter) was demonstrating his product 'mini sealer'.

We were there, and he saw my son without an umbrella.
He is so thoughtful, he took a large size platic and
sealed it into a 'rain coat' for my son...it is perfect
fit.. for free.

How observant you are! I do too. I have a bigger golf umbrella and a normal one. If I should leave the car. I have a folded down umbrella in my backpack.Yes, even though the golf umbrella can help shade two from the rain, it is taxing o n the wrist as it is much heavier.Also, as you rightly pointed out, it may hurt others.

Talking about umbrellas,my wife has this habit. She always tries to repair broken down umbrella to lengthen its life of usage. That has now been emulated by my son who likes to keep parts of old umbrellas for future umbrella repair work.

A tips for travelling :-

I do normally repaired an old folded umbrella so that it
is still usable and reliable. We will checked them
in the 'check-in' luggage. So, once we are in overseas
during tour, we will carried this folded umbrella in
our backpack besides carrying disposable raincoat too!

This umbrella really came in handy when it rains. Then, we
not need to spend extra money to buy umbrella (it is not
cheap especially in Europe due to the currency exchange).
Once the journey, or the tour's over, we will just dispose
off the umbrella in the airport before boarding. It is
like 'killing two birds with one stone'..

1) Save money no need to buy umbrella.

2) We will have extra luggage space to put in souvenirs
on the way back as we are throwing the old umbrellas.
Which in actual fact, this broken umbrella are meant
to be disposed off in the first place. Another point
to note is, do you noticed that the folded umbrella
has a very short life span , build to spoil easily!

You can feel the strength of the stem as well as all the interleaving metal parts. The foldable never fails. A press on the button on the handle and it practically springs up and perform.These days, the ones made locally are really bad. The metal are so weak and the construction, so flimsy. No wonder, useful life is so short. Maye it is meant to be! Otherwise these companies cannot make money. LOL!

I like the attitude of that salesman. Ask him if he has any of his relatives working as salesman in Mumbai. I would like to visit their shop on a rainy day without an umbrella.

It is always a good memory when we are away from our
homeland and meet nice guy like the promoter in Shanghai

You really have a good sense of humour. If I
am a boss, I will employ this guy to promote my products.
When we were there, there are a few shops side by side
selling the same item 'the mini sealer', yet we noticed,
his stall is the one surrounded by customers and he closed
quite a number of sales....great job! He was very creative.
He even demonstrate to my husband by 'vacuum sealed with plastic'
onto my husband cellphone from being wet...just like those plastic
cellphone cover, or remote control cover that sells in the shops!

I have already started dreaming. You will open a shop like that. You will be the boss employing that great guy as your chief salesman. I will be visiting Shangai along with my friends on a rainy day without umbrellas. Hope you immediately recognise all the mylotters.

For me to open a shop in the busiest & prosperous
city, where 'the west meet the east', and one
of the expensive city in the world - Shanghai,
it is of very slim chance. However if I did own
a shop there, I am definitely a rich tycoon, I
will bring you around the city of 'Shanghai Beach'
or popular known as 'The Bund' and climb up the
world's second highest tower 'The Oriental Pearl Tower'
and sit on the fastest train in the world 'The Maglev train'.

Hope I can revisit Shanghai with you and family...

My actual dream is you opening a shop. The rest was a joke. I always liked to
dream about fulfilling the dreams of my friends in whatever way I can. Either by way of praying or which ever way possible for me to do.

Since you have sun allergic, it is good
that you have umbrella with you always
to shade you from the uv ray of the sun.
Do the doctor advise you to put any lotion
for protection? You should not use black colour
umbrella because it abosrbs heat..

I have a friend which we called 'candle princess'
because she just couldn't stand the hot sun. She
will wear long sleeve and glove while she drives
and with umbrella over her even from the car porch
to her main door.

Thanks for the advice iriene. my problem is I'm also allergic to the lotions when I go out in the sun. I can wear anything(meaning lotion, perfume etc.) if theres no sun and I'm protected, but the moment I go out in the sun wearing even perfume, or jewellery or any cosmetics, I have to suffer. So I just forget about all those things since I'd rather be bare and happy than decked up and suffer.

During heavy rain and strong wind, the umbrella tends to
open 'downside up'...LOL, and people will look and laugh.
