It's Raining....Umbrella or Rain Coat? |
| |
| There is a Malay proverb that says that 'We should prepare an umbrella before it rains.' Do ensure that the umbrella is big enough to shield us when it rains (and make sure that there’re no holes!) I am not sure whether it rains in your country or not. In Malaysia we can't predict the weather at all, it might rain, it might not. Even the weather forecast is not reliable... SO, if it rains, which will you prefer, an umbrella or a rain coat? Do you have an umbrella ready in your car in case it rains. How about our ladies here at myLot, do you have an umbrella in your handbag? Btw, sometimes we do use umbrella when it is too hot, how about wearing a cap or a hat, do you? Do share your views here...thanks and happy myLotting! | | Umbrella | | | | |

| | I prefer a umbrella, though sometimes I go neither. I love a good walk in the rain as long as the rain isn't too cold. | | | | | | |

| | Dear Gina, Once in a while when we are caught in the 'sudden' rain, we have to continue walking and enjoyed the rain, but from what I heard, it is advisable to immediately take a hot bath once reach home. This is to cleansed our body from the 'chemical that are in the rain due to pollution' and avoid from getting cold! A chorus from the song 'Umbrella' by Rihanna :~ When the sun shines We'll shine together Told you I'll be here forever Said I'll always be your friend Took an oath I'mma stick it out 'till the end Now that it's raining more than ever Know that we still have each other You can stand under my Umbrella You can stand under my Umbrella (Ella ella eh eh eh) Under my umbrella (ella ella eh eh eh) Under my umbrella (ella ella eh eh eh) Under my umbrella All the best and do keep in touch! | | | |

| | I think men would prefer a good raincoat. It is easier to wear and keep away the rain from drenching them. Ladies could also wear a rain coat for the same reason. As for umbrella, ladies prefer to have an umbrella because they also use it to shade off the sun.We hardly see men using them unless it is the rainy season. Men always prefer the long black umbrellas. Some keep golf umbrellas in their cars which becomes handy when it pours! | | | | | | |

| | How observant you are! I do too. I have a bigger golf umbrella and a normal one. If I should leave the car. I have a folded down umbrella in my backpack.Yes, even though the golf umbrella can help shade two from the rain, it is taxing o n the wrist as it is much heavier. Also, as you rightly pointed out, it may hurt others. Talking about umbrellas,my wife has this habit. She always tries to repair broken down umbrella to lengthen its life of usage. That has now been emulated by my son who likes to keep parts of old umbrellas for future umbrella repair work. | | | |

| | Dear jonjee, Thanks for your prompt reply, truly appreciate it :) Your son is very good, he has this very 'DIY' attitude and mechanical mind...keep it up! A tips for travelling :- I do normally repaired an old folded umbrella so that it is still usable and reliable. We will checked them in the 'check-in' luggage. So, once we are in overseas during tour, we will carried this folded umbrella in our backpack besides carrying disposable raincoat too! This umbrella really came in handy when it rains. Then, we not need to spend extra money to buy umbrella (it is not cheap especially in Europe due to the currency exchange). Once the journey, or the tour's over, we will just dispose off the umbrella in the airport before boarding. It is like 'killing two birds with one stone'.. 1) Save money no need to buy umbrella. 2) We will have extra luggage space to put in souvenirs on the way back as we are throwing the old umbrellas. Which in actual fact, this broken umbrella are meant to be disposed off in the first place. Another point to note is, do you noticed that the folded umbrella has a very short life span , build to spoil easily! Cheers! | | | |

| | If you notice, in the early days, just after the demise of the bambo umbrella, foldables came into fashion at about the same time as the plastic fabrics. These were mainly Chinese imports and mind you, they were durable. You can feel the strength of the stem as well as all the interleaving metal parts. The foldable never fails. A press on the button on the handle and it practically springs up and perform. These days, the ones made locally are really bad. The metal are so weak and the construction, so flimsy. No wonder, useful life is so short. Maye it is meant to be! Otherwise these companies cannot make money. LOL! | | | |

| | It is same here in Mumbai. Here ladies use umbrellas in rain or shine. Gents too use umbrellas during rain and caps during hot seasons. I recently started carrying umbrellas that also if it is raining when I am leaving for office. Otherwise I skip it. Weather dept. is always unreliable every where. This year no rain in Mumbai so far. If the season passes without enough rain there will be heavy water cut. Enjoy your rain. It is a seasonal guest. | | | | | | |

| | I like the attitude of that salesman. Ask him if he has any of his relatives working as salesman in Mumbai. I would like to visit their shop on a rainy day without an umbrella. | | | |

| | I have already started dreaming. You will open a shop like that. You will be the boss employing that great guy as your chief salesman. I will be visiting Shangai along with my friends on a rainy day without umbrellas. Hope you immediately recognise all the mylotters. | | | |

| | My actual dream is you opening a shop. The rest was a joke. I always liked to dream about fulfilling the dreams of my friends in whatever way I can. Either by way of praying or which ever way possible for me to do. Perhaps this dream started by way of a joke might one day come true. Any thing is possible these days. Best of luck and start praying. | | | |

| | I always have an umbrella in my bag, ready for rain or even too much sun to which I'm allergic. Yes. I'm sun allergic the doctor says. I used to wear raincoats when I was small but even then preferred taking an umbrella because it made me adult like. Huh! now its the other way round. But I still have that umbrella with me because you just cant wear a raincoat in the sun. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for the advice iriene. my problem is I'm also allergic to the lotions when I go out in the sun. I can wear anything(meaning lotion, perfume etc.) if theres no sun and I'm protected, but the moment I go out in the sun wearing even perfume, or jewellery or any cosmetics, I have to suffer. So I just forget about all those things since I'd rather be bare and happy than decked up and suffer. | | | |

| | I always have an umbrella. We had very bad storms over our summer this season and it was never cold rain. It was warm, and a rain coat would just be too much to wear to get from point A to point B. I never have anything when it's too hot out, depending on why I'm outside. Sometimes I wear sun screen though. I don't like hats and I feel silly carrying around an umbrella if it's too hot out. :) | | | | | | |

| | Lol, cool, I am from Malaysia! I used to hate the idea of using umbrellas, they're not too handy to bring about, sometimes umbrellas I use get broken, and my pants would sometimes get soaked anyway. Might as well just go through the rain rather than holding on to an umbrella and get wet anyway! But these days, changed my mind. I use an umbrella if it rains, having one in my bag (small one) all the time. If the rain is too heavy, I use the big one, so less chances of the umbrella getting broken or anything. Small ones tend to be broken easily when the wind is so strong! And I hardly use raincoats... that's even messier to use, lol. | | | | | | |

| | Hi, Great to meet my fellow Malaysian here, welcome to my topic I too experience those 'playful' small folded umbrella. During heavy rain and strong wind, the umbrella tends to open 'downside up'...LOL, and people will look and laugh. If you notice, in the early days, just after the demise of the bamboo umbrella, foldables came into fashion at about the same time as the plastic fabrics. These were mainly Chinese imports and they were durable. You can feel the strength of the stem as well as all the interleaving metal parts. The foldable never fails. | | I always bring with me umbrella as protection against hot and rainy seasons..When the rain is too much too handle, umbrella is not enough for me. Aside from wearing my waterproof jackets with boots, I also don rain coats which will definitely protect my clothes from splash and from mud from passing vehicles. | | | | | | |

| | Dear neelia, Glad to see you here, it cheered me up on a raining day When using an umbrella, the head and shoulders stay dry, but everything else gets wet! Wearing a raincoat offers complete protection from head to toe except the face...lol When I walk on the side road with puddle of rain water, as cars speeding by, the splash is You have a very ideal solution, - use both! Talk about rain coat, it reminds me of an experience in Shanghai. When we were in the city of Shanghai, the tour guide let us have 2 hours of 'free & easy' to go shopping. It was raining when we are at the shopping streets. In one of the shop, a Chinese young guy ( a sealer promoter) was demonstrating his product 'mini sealer'. We were there, and he saw my son without an umbrella. He is so thoughtful, he took a large size plastic and sealed it into a 'rain coat' for my son...it is perfect fit.. for free. Thanks for sharing and take care! | | | |
