My dogs have been going nuts for the past two days. Today, it's been only in the bedroom. I finally saw the reason behind their frantic actions: a tiny little mouse. It's scampering all over the bedroom, hiding behind the bed, the dresser, anything on the floor that it can hide behind until my dogs chase it out. I have two little Maltese cuties and they are normally so sweet but they've turned into vicious huntresses in the past two days, all because of a little mouse. We're getting rain here for the first time in many weeks so I'm sure that's the reason the mouse is here. Living in the country, there are a lot of field mice out there and they usually come indoors when the weather is bad. I know my dogs or my cat will catch the little intruder. Do you have any mice stories? I believe this is my third mouse story here in myLot. Usually, it's my cat who catches the mice but he seems to be totally uninterested in this one. We just moved here two and a half years ago and I'm still trying to get used to all the critters around here, especially so darned many mice! Do you live in an area where there are lots of field mice? How do you deal with them?

I live in a house in a large congested city. Mice do make their way into my house when the weather begins to get cold. We don't have any pets, so we set traps for mice. Unfortunately there is no pleasant way to get rid of mice.

That is very true, no pleasant way to get rid of them. I also lived in a large city at one time (Baltimore) and we had mice and an occasional rat. I had to set traps, too. Once, I used sticky traps because poison wasn't doing the job and they were multiplying. The sticky traps worked but I hated having to kill the mice once they were stuck on the traps. I couldn't stand to hear their frantic squeaking so I had to drown them. Always very unpleasant!

hi marti. i don't know how to get rid of these little rodents constantly visiting our house. they seems to be so at home for the last few months. we actually cleaned the house thoroughly, for that seems to be the only solution. but once in a while, they still come out. Zayzay always see them and will utter, "ga, ga, dy, ga" which means "ilaga, ilaga, daddy, ilaga". "ilaga" is local term for a rat. there was also a time, that the taxi terminal nearby moved out. after a few days, we can see big rats roaming in and out of the house. you will get shocked if you get out of the room at night, and you thought it was a kitten that will run beside you feet. gosh, they are really big. we tried to catch them with a trap, but it seems that rats already know what that small box-type grill with a piece of food inside. we never catch a single rat with it. but, at this moment, we never saw a single one of them. maybe, they already moved out. but we still have other company, which Zayzay always see, and when they saw it, he will tell you, like: "ma, ki, ma" = "mama, tiki, ma" = tiki is lizard "dy, okok, dy" = "daddy, ok-ok dy" = ok-ok is cockroach "dy, ka, dy" = "daddy, kaka dy" = kaka is spider

Haven't heard from you in awhile, I hope all has been well! When I lived in the desert we got mice. I'd set humane mouse traps and drive them a few miles away. The boys loved those trips when they were young! No mice here in my new home, Cookie the rat terrier is a ravenous murderess of anything with more than 2 legs or with wings!

I was sick for awhile with, I think, the swine flu. I'm not sure but I don't think the regular flu has broken out yet. I was sick enough to have no energy and didn't even come in to myLot for almost a full week. All I wanted to do was sleep or watch television. But, I'm almost 100% better now. I'm thinking of getting some humane traps for mice. I have a chipmunk problem, too, so that would cover both of them. I have one for larger critters like opossums, rabbits and squirrels and have caught an opossum. I drove him miles away and released him. I'll do the same with the mice. I'd much rather do that than have my cat or dogs kill them. They really are cute little creatures, even if they do carry diseases sometimes and almost always carry lice. Plus, they love to chew through walls, boxes, just about anything. They're quite pesky but I still don't like killing them. So, I'll get 2 or 3 traps and put them around before it starts getting too cold. I managed to get a bird away from my cat not too long ago. The bird wasn't injured so I took it outside and let it go. Unfortunately, birds are not my biggest problem. It's those darned mice!

There are other things that come from killing wildlife. When I live in Arizona, Cookie would kill any jackrabbit that came through the fence--and it was a very small gauge fence!! She's incredibly fast and grabs birds from the air--anyway, she had worms from eating the rabbits, which usually sneaked into the yard at dawn, before I was awake. I saw her kill one once--incredibly fast, incredibly efficient, the kill was quick and humane. But still, my heart ached for the little creature! And my pocketbook ached from the worming!!! Now, in Ohio, she only kills the random mouse and birds. Strangely, she'll chase butterflies but not kill them. I hope you solve your problem and your sweet dogs and cat remain healthy and worm free!

If I'm not mistake, you've had this problem before? My question would be..."How are these little critters getting in?" Although we do have mice here in the city, WE have never had any one of them come visit us. We HAVE had skunks, raccoons, and squirrels come to check out the new kitten at our front door...but nope, no mice came to call. Mind you, I'd pity any mouse that ever dares to. Snoopy (the new kitten) was given a furry toy mouse to play with...and well lets just say, it met its demise rather harshly. cdrxo

Hahahaha! I don't think many toy mice last very long. In my house, if the cats don't tear the toy mice up, my dogs will! Yeah, we've had this problem with mice since we moved in here. Not many have come in on their own, though. Usually, they're brought in from the cat, then get loose while he tries to "play" with his new toy. But, whenever it rains for any length of time, we usually see a mouse. BUT, this is the first time my dogs ever got into the act in trying to catch it. It was usually the cat going after it and, sometimes, my dogs would go after the cat but never after the mouse. Now, of course, my littlest dog won't be chasing any mice, at least not for awhile. She just got stung on her... uh... girlie part by a bee. Apparently, she sat down on this bee and the bee was NOT happy about it. Poor little thing is on my lap now, clinging to me like never before. I had to give her a pill to calm down because she was shaking so badly. The pill is Xanax, given to me by the vet for my other dog who is terrified of thunder. What a world!

Hi Marti, how are you doing and how are things treating you these days? Things here are exactly the same. I am not complaining, because it isn't worse but doing good. I don't have a real mouse story meaning, I thought I had a mice, and the only thing nice I can say about them is that they are God's creatures, I don't think they are cute one bit, and I don't like or want to share my home with them. I had been seeing evidence of mice or so I thought. So I put down some mice pellets for them, the pellets (poison) was disappearing, so I start wondering how many did I have, so as I was checking on the pellets one night, I just happen to see a great big cockroach, the water bug kind carrying one of the pellets away. Then I did a little research and found out that bugs and roaches eats rat poison too. So then I went and bought some roach poison. I hope it did the trick, because the roach poison hasn't been touched.

Hi Chevee. I'm doing pretty good, now. I was sick last week with what I think might have been the swine flu. It wasn't too bad but it did zap me of energy for awhile. I'm so much better now! I think I forgot to tell you; I got approved for disability!!!!! Yep, I FINALLY got that approval letter I've waited 7 years for! And, the judge said that my disability goes back to April 2000, when I was first unable to work full-time. That's almost 9 1/2 years! I haven't received any money yet but at least I know it's coming. I see travel in my future. I want to do some visiting of a few of the friends I've made here and you are on that list. I told miracle freebies that I'd love to get down that way and meet her and also swing by and see you while I'm down that way. Maybe the three of us could meet somewhere. Well, the four of us, actually, because I'm an unofficial 'grandmother' of miracle's little girl. That would be so cool! That is a funny story about the mice pellets. I NEVER would have thought that roaches/water bugs were eating it! Well, at least you won't have a problem with bugs! LOL I'm also glad to hear that you don't have mice, or you might have but don't now. The mice here always seem to come in one at a time. I've never seen more than one. That's probably because of the 2 dogs and 2 cats and most rodents are smarter than that. Also, there is a cattle farm across the road from us and I have the feeling that their mouse problem is much worse than ours. I just hate seeing the little critters scurrying around. Gives me the creeps!

Hi Mentalward, this has taken a great effort on my part to answer as I can still see the word mouse in you title. I can cope with most things, and have done, but not those foul scurrying creatures. I realised upon having a house built in an olive grove that this could be a problem so researched fully, and the first thing that went into the house wasn't me, but sonic mice repellant device plugs in every roo. So far they have worked for six years and I recommend them highly. They only work against m and rats though, and don't deter snakes. If you respond please refrain from mentioning the word mouse of rat. Thank you.

Hmmm, is 'rodent' okay? I'm going to get some of those sonic things. I've seen them all over the place but didn't know if they worked. I'm glad you told me that they do! I'll definitely be putting them in every room here. I can't stand those little critters in my house, either! We don't have a problem with snakes (knock on wood). There are snakes near our lake, or so I've been told. I haven't seen any but two neighbors have told me that there are snakes out there. I also try to make sure that nothing is sitting against the house because I know that snakes like to hide in things like wood piles or anything else against the house and that's usually how they get in, somewhere near that hiding place. Nope, I don't want any snakes in here, either! I caught an opossum once in a humane trap and drove it miles away before releasing it. I haven't seen it (or any others) since.

Thanks, thea! I'll look into these "stink balls". I don't think I could handle seeing a snake in the house. I'm not especially afraid of them but they'd scare me pretty bad if I saw one in the house. Plus, I'm sure they'd at least try to bite my dogs or cats if they tried to catch them. I've used moth balls against squirrels because I heard that they work. Well, they don't work! I had squirrels take up residence in my attic in a house I used to live in and put a bunch of moth balls around up there. The squirrels didn't seem to mind them being there. That's when I bought the humane trap. It has come in handy on more than one occasion!

Hello again, thank you for being sensitive enough to not mention that dreaded word. Now I see you also would not invite a snake inside, so I can provide yet another effective tip for this problem, which is much cheaper than something sonic. After a rather shocking moment at the beginning of the summer, when indeed the worst happened and a snake ventured indoors, no manners at all I should add as totally uninvited, I immediatly took steps to ensure it would not happen again. Upon local advice I purchased a bag of white stink balls, the name of which I don't know in English, but it may have been a brand name. It is a product called 'nafoleeni' - or at least that is the transliteration of the name. It is somewhat akin to moth balls. Do not use them inside the house but lay the balls at intervals around the external permimeter of the house. I can't guarantee they work as I have had only one incident of a snake coming inside, despite there being many slithering around outside, but there does appear to be more than usual this year. It's worth a go at least but I'd advise wearing gloves whilst placing them.

I'm now in an apartment which you probably already know by my past posts of how I miss my Maltese since hubby and I split. I don't believe I have mice here but we did have in the house. Our Maltese spun out a few times the one day and I just knew there was a reason. Then I was cleaning my closet the same day and when hubby came home from work I asked him if he had a mouse trap as I found droppings in my closet. That night we set the trap and the mouse was caught sometime during the night. I insisted he set the trap one more night as it's very unlikely you just have one. Although I was called Mrs. Trapper he did set the trap and low and behold there was number two. He did reset the trap yet another time but there were no others. I think you must be feeding your cat too well my dear. lol I miss my puppy so much but it was good to hear a story about Maltese Puppy. I Thank You

I'm so sorry about your Maltese baby. I know what it's like to miss a pet. I went through a horrible period after my first divorce and had to find another home for two of my three dogs. I was fortunate in finding a really nice man who lived on a farm who took both of the dogs (father and daughter) and they actually seemed excited to go with him. So, I was happy that they were happy but I sure did miss them! I know all about mice. So much like roaches! If you see one you can be pretty sure you have many more. I had mice move into another house I owned and they had babies. Boy, was that ever fun! (NOT!) The one in my house now is just a baby. I generally only see one at a time, I think because we do have the 2 dogs and 2 cats. The rodents smell them and generally steer clear of this house. Besides, there's a farm across the road with several barns, much easier access to food for the little critters. But, I guess they try to get in anywhere when the weather is bad. Luckily, they don't last long in this house.

I sure do not want any mice in my home. I live in an apartment tens of storeys up. If any mouse can be found in the home, either my home is so dirty, or there is an epidemic breakout of mouse that is going to happen in the near future. Given that my wife is very strict about cleanliness, and the government effective pest control measures for public housing, I am sure it will not be happening!

RATZ...you say you have mice. Well, my dear Marti....I have the bigger, uglier version of those cute little intruders that you have...RATZ..of many sizes & colors, and of all decents! The only time that I have a mouse, is when my darling, darling cat brings his trophy alive into the house, and decides to play with it! So I will NOT ruin your discussion with my "rodent" stories, and yes, they are all moving indoors, as after NOT having rain for nearly two months, we have had almost 10 days of ghoulish weather...one thunder/lightning storm that went on for 4 hours! So "all & sundry" seeked a port in the storm...my house. Nice to hear from you...and Cheers!

YAHOOCONGRATULATIONS...AND WOW! Finally, finally...you got thru all that "red tape" the bureaucrats thru at you...and came out the other end...A WINNER! Now possible you can relax...shed the stress...and keep the fibromyalgia..to a minimum! Sorry to hear, that possibly, you had swine flu...but possibly that is a good thing, as you shud be immune...NOW! Pendemic...yes, RATZ! I am sorry, I CANNOT be humane, regarding their demise, as re-locating them would only pass my problem on to some-one else...and if they are humane, let them propogate...and they would be right back at me. They carry many diseases, none of which I want in my home. We are over run with them here, and they are agressive...just when you start to get the pendemic under control, some idiot here, let's his family (7) of pet rats loose...and now we have rats of every color & size! I live very close (about a km) from a horse rescue farm, that also has llamas, goats & sheep...so their feed barn is rife with them! Sorry....BUT I deal with them agressively! Have a wonderful weekend...Marti...and BIG HUGZ!

Hi Marti, trying to play "catch up if you can" thing again.... You need to figure out how these mice are getting into your house and get some steel wool at the store to patch up the holes. Rats and mice will not cross steel wool for some reason so do that first. The other idea is a doozer and you've got to laugh! Get 10 cats like I have!! Of course you'll have to get them all fixed but hey, having that many, you're bound to have one or two that are going to be really good hunters!! LMBO!!

no i don't have dogs . i don't like caring for dogs cause i don't have the time though i find them cute and adorable too. so i have cats who take care of the problem of mouse if ever there are some mice attempting invade our homes. before when there was no cat in my house, rats are an every day thin in my house. they will stay inside my oven. they find holes to get inside it and stay there and we noticed that my smell had this foul smell. when we opened the compartment of our oven i saw lots of garbage inside. it was really ridiculous. and i was pissed off . my life ws so miserable and was hard because of those mice. i had to clean my oven many times in a week. meaning to clean the inside compartment. those things that we don't open just to clean something. like i am opening it to repair something. anyways,

I actually JUST rescued a little baby field mouse moments ago form one of my cats and set the little cutie free outside. I found a nice soft place by the shed where he could hide and find food. If I left him inside he cats would have killed him and since he had not yet been damaged by them, I saved him. He was so very cute! We get lots of mice here, also in the country, but we have six cats and two dogs, all mighty hunters, so it's rare that I get to rescue them, but I do what i can. I also have a pet mouse, Marty, who lives in the master bedroom bathroom - the one place the cats can't go. Marty is a big white mouse with a little pink nose and big pink ears.

as the winter season approaches, so does the threat of getting mice in your house. We are pretty fortunate. We do not see too many mice in our home. Part of the reason for this could be that we have cats in the house. They are good pets to have to keep the mice population in check.

We have 2 cats and 2 dogs. That's why I think that the mice that do come in are mentally handicapped. They don't stand a chance in this house! LOL
