What is your first greetings when you pick up an incoming call? | | When I was working, I will pick the incoming call by mentioning 'Good morning or..., my company name'
If I pick up the house phone at home..I will just say "Hello"
If I pick up my cell phone, I would say " Iriene speaking..."
How about you? Do share your style of answering a call.
Btw, you may share how you handle those 'spam' calls like those who asked you to apply credit card, personal loans, join privilege hotel membership, etc.

well the very common thing to say for me is hello... who are you looking? or yes? or good morning, good evening... a pleasant day! many things to say... many type on how to.
but if i receive such 'spam' calls... i would directly off my cellphone or put the telephone down... or sometimes i would respectfully answered them and just let them know i am not interested.

| woaini_87 (9) | 3 months ago | i will normally just say hello if its my own hp and might just pick up and say 'babe or dude' if its my close friends, but if it is some unknown number, i will never speak until the other person speak. because i do not like revealing myself before knowing who I'm going to talk to.
and if its my mum's office phone I'll pick up and say "hello, who do you want to speak to?" because sometimes people will call finding for any1 of us as we are normally in my mum's office and not at home.
If its this 'spam' callers I'll just say politely, sorry I'm not interested or I've already got a call like this, because I've worked in a survey company and i know how bad it feel's when others be rude.

| | 2. sderringer (239) | 3 months ago | When I worked it was, "Company name, Sandy speaking, may I help you". On my cell phone it is just "Hello" and at home it varies depending on who is calling and if I catch who is calling on my caller ID first. If I can see that it is a telemarketer, I answer with "I am not interested thank you" and I hang up. If it is a friend or family member, I answer by saying "hey" or "what's up" and sometimes I will add their name or the nickname that I have for certain ones.

sderringer (239) | 3 months ago | It is a mouthful to get out too. Wish I could take the credit for answering the work phone in a professional, polite way as you say but I didn't come up with it. That is the way the company wanted all of its employees to answer the phone. It is a good way though I think. Thanks for commenting and happy mylotting.

| | 3. shia88 (826) | 3 months ago | Hi Iriene,
I always start my first word with ' Hello ' when I picked up a call. Then only I wish chat the conversation.
When I was working in the bank, we have a phrase to say out when we first pick up a call from customer. I have to address my name,my company name and also said: what Can I help you?? Doing a customer service job is not easy. I have to talk and talk for whole day.Calls are coming nonstop especially during peak hours.
When I received any spams call, I will just reject their offer nicely saying that " I am not interested and Thank you for calling me",Then I will hung up the line.

| | 4. delkar (895) | 3 months ago | I`m just saying "ALO " that`s like you say HELLO, but it`s in my language . I`m always saying that, if i`m not knowing the number . If i know the numer, and it`s a friend of mine, i`m saying: salut, ce mai faci mah? that means: Hellow, how you`re doing? Somethig like that . When someone from the bank it``s calling me, i just listen what they have to say, and if i don`t like, i just say: no thanks, and they insist, and i say: you can tell me anything, i don`t want that offer .
| |
| |
|
|
Iriene88 (1176) | 3 months ago | Dear Delkar,
That was so interesting . I got to learn how to greet in your language here. Thanks ...
In Chinese, many will answer their incoming call like this:-
'Wei, ni chau shui?' (means: Hi, who are are looking for?)
For myself, I normally picked my cell phone by addressing my name. So, if the other party called the wrong number, he immediately realised it when he heard my name, not the person hw is looking for. However, it has a setback, by letting 'unwanted' person knowing your name is no good especially if it is a prank call.
Thanks for sharing, I truly enjoyed reading your post, keep it up!

| | 5. JamesKYTan (504) | 3 months ago | I don't have to answer company phone. However,if the receptionist passes the call to me she usually identifies the caller to me, then I will call the caller by name follow by good morning or good afternoon whatever the time may be.If it is house phone, I say 'Hello.' If somebody who calls on my hand phone, I say the caller's name,(as the regular callers are identified on my phone screen) follow by the usual greetings. As for callers who try to sell membership or insurance I normally entertain them and later turn down politely.

JamesKYTan (504) | 3 months ago | Hello Iriene, I'll take your advice while driving. It is dangerous using hand phone while driving. However, we can overcome this by installing a hand-free gadget or a bluetooth.
| |
|
|
Iriene88 (1176) | 3 months ago | Dear James,
Glad that you are going to use the handsfree while driving. It is a good practice. Nowadays police and traffic officers are all over to catch those traffic offenders.
Btw, how do you address your the other half when you answer her call? Hahaha:)
| |
|
|
JamesKYTan (504) | 3 months ago | Oh, if my 'the other half' call me on my cellphone. Her 'nickname' will appear on it. Then I will know is her. I will normally answer with my softest voice.. LOL...I will say, 'Yes..my darling' or 'Yes, princess'
Yes, it is good that we should use handsfree while driving.
Remember: SAFETY FIRST!

| | 7. horsesrule (1791) | 3 months ago | I always just say hello when I answer the phone. We have caller ID so I never answer the phone if I don't know who it is. That way I don't have to deal with those SPAM calls that are so irritating. I also got rid of my answering machine so I don't have to deal with those calls and the nasty messages family would leave because I wouldn't answer the phone (never mind that I wasn't home at the time they called!) So basically I have taken complete control of the phone and I only answer when I am in a mood to talk to someone, otherwise, I don't take calls. I don't have a cell phone either.

| | 8. astonysh (1824) | 3 months ago | On the 'phone at home (and on my mobile), we can see the number of most incoming calls.
If it is a number that we know, it will normally be a fairly cheerful "Hi". If it is a number that we do not know, it is a careful "hello" (the same if there is no number given), if it is a number known to be a telemarketer or some other outright nuisance, we either do not answer, or shout "go away" and hang up. The latter is better, as then they have to pay the call, and may hesitate before ringing again.
At work (I am currently unemployed, note), I begin with my name, followed by the word: "speaking", followed by "how can I help you?".

| | 9. offlimits (231) | 3 months ago | Hello is definitely my top answer because it is just so common:) But sometimes I don't really answer with Hello most especially if I know well the person calling. Sometimes I would say "O bakit?" which is translated as "Yes, Why?," or even "Oyyy" for my closest friends. Whenever my mom calls I always answer with "O, ma?" or "Hmmmm?" I know it's just weird but what's more weird is that sometimes I don't speak until the caller speaks up first:))

offlimits (231) | 3 months ago | Thanks a lot! I am having a great time participating in the discussions. You are actually my first friend here. Haha:)
Yes, maybe. Sometimes the caller would repeatedly say Hello before I respond with anything. LOL. And I am glad you know about tagalog. I also love Japanese so sometimes I say Konnichiwa. haha.
I would definitely respond to your other topics. I find them interesting:) Take care.

Iriene88 (1176) | 3 months ago | Dear offlimits,
I am honored to be your first friend...
Btw, who is your introducer..or I would say who is the one introduced you to myLot? Normally the first friend is the introducer, this case is really special..wow...
Just some tips for you, I noticed you are at the right track:-
1) Every response that you post, you will be paid. BUT bear in mind, make sure at least minimum 3 or 4 relevant sentences regarding the topic in discussion. A few cents per post..so the more you post, the merrier!
2) If you start a topic, then it is advisable that you comments on the responses that you receive in order to earn. Again, minimum 3 or 4 relevant sentences! If you include a photo in your discussion, it earns too! myLot pay on your comments! for the responses you received...
3) You can get referral to join under you. You will be paid 25% of their earnings on postings here. So get more referral and it boost your earnings.
4)I think (not so sure), the higher rating and with more quality response, the earnings is higher! Just try and see for yourself. If this strategy is true, let me know too:)
5) Task was good, can earn extra too. But I am not fully into it yet.
Cheers and take care:)

offlimits (231) | 3 months ago | Well, I came across myLot when I was looking for a "legitimate" online job. I looked for websites who pay for writing in forums and myLot is one of the recommended sites. So maybe that would explain why I don't have an introducer:)
And thank you for the tips! I really do appreciate it. It's so nice to have some help most especially that I'm just starting over. I've tried some PTC sites but I hate it because they're just scams! Uhhh! I completely wasted my time signing up for those.
I really do hope this would pay off my effort. Thank you very much!

Iriene88 (1176) | 3 months ago | Dear offlimits,
You can always start a new topic and get some advises for the interest: 'Make Money' or 'myLot'. The 'make money' section, you can review those older topics where some of them will share which sites are scam and which sites are genuine. Learn from other's experiences!
So far, myLot been paying out for 3 years already. I had joined for 3 mths and got my 2nd payout already!
So, do your best, hope that you can reach the minimum payout for this month...
| |
|
|
offlimits (231) | 3 months ago | If I were to ask, how much is the payment? I don't really have an idea how much I can get here in the first place. I just tried and I really don't regret because it is so much fun to talk about stuff. And thanks a lot, really. I would not know what to do if not for your information. More power to all of us:)
| |
|
| |
offlimits (231) | 3 months ago | Yes, I read it already. And what about the stars beside the username? I don't know what it is for. Well, more fun and funds it is. Haha:)) Thank you so much for the information!

|
| |
offlimits (231) | 3 months ago | Oh! I look forward to having those emoticons. I didn't know at first because I was looking where to find those, so I guessed I would have that some other time. And also the copy-paste features and the STAR. HAHA.:) Now I know. Thanks a lot! Have a good day:)
| |
|
| |
offlimits (231) | 3 months ago | Oh, I hope so too! I just hope I'll reach 100 real soon:) I am really enjoying here that's why I respond to the posts immediately. I even respond during my free time in school. Haha! Thanks a lot!:)

And I noticed people use different tones and pronounciations when they say "hello"
Sometimes it may sound like .......hallo or may be hellow etc
