Have you started turning on the heat or burnt wood in the stove already?

Hi Ivy, it's still hot out here though we did have a few cold days, but mostly the fan is still on all the time. When the cold does hit which I really hope won't be till the new year I will be most inadequately prepared as both the electic heating and the oil heating could be too pricey too run. It could be a case of wooly hats indoors with hot water bottles and quilts, not an inviting prospect at all.

well we bought a fixer upper house that was built in 1950, and since we have been living here we have been doing some remodeling and updating things in the house.. like the carpet, and the walls were torn down and we put in insulation.. and then of course we have the heater/furnace that we will run.. we are considering getting a gas stove that you just turn on a switch, but those can be costly and we are on a budget.

its great you have a fire burning stove --that helps keep those heating bills down.

Hi! I haven't turned on the heat yet, but I have been tempted. The nights have gotten very cold all of a sudden. But, I'm holding out a little longer, as it's only the beggining of October. We have oil heating in my house and we also occasionally use the fireplace. It's wonderful to sit by the fireplace in the winter. Hopefully, it won't get any colder for awhile. Stay warm!

It's still hot in my region, even I can go swimming at the beach. As usual it will turn cold in mid October, at that time I'll turn on the heat. The heat system of my house runs by gaz.

I am not a person that get cold easily so I have not turned on my heat yet. As a matter of fact I just shut my widows yesterday. I dress warmer when it gets cold, sweatpants and sweatshirts and heavy socks and the I have a bunch of throws around to cover with.

It is now getting cold of an evening,i am thinking of turning on the heating but at the moment it is not too bad to want it on.As long as the children are warm thats all that matters to me.I tend to keep all the doors and windows shut to keep my house warm.When i use my oven to cook i leave the oven door open after i have finished with it that then warms the kitchen up.If that fails then i turn the central heating on.

We've had to turn the heat on quite a few times the past couple of days because the weather has definitely gotten cooler and in the middle of the night, the house gets pretty chilly so we do have to use the heat occasionally. We haven't had it on for too long yet but I'm sure that'll come in time.

The weather here is rainy and starting to get cold. It is wonderful fall weather but for me it's icky. I just hate the rain. Thankfully though, the heat has only needed to be turned on a couple of times though.

Usually at my home away from college we use a wood stove. We've used a wood stove my whole life. That is until I hit colege. Then we had central heating. I was in love with it! Now that I'm living with my partner in an apartment, I still have central heat and enjoy it.

I have started to have the heating on as well. We have got into the really wet and overcast weather here in England now, with the chill wind that sneaks up on you even in the sun. A few days I have gone outside ready to sunbathe only to be driven back inside by a biting wind! Last night and a few of the other nights this week I have put the heating on in the morning and the evening for an hour each time. I use it to give the house a warm boost while I wake up or settle down, the rest of the time the temperature has been acceptable, but the mornings have been freezing!!

I am in Virginia. It started getting cooler in the evenings. I already started bringing out my blanket and wearing long sleeve shirts. During the day, the weather flunctuates. On some days it is 70's, others in the sixties. But we get a lot of rain and storm in this area. To make my house warm in the winter, I use my fireplace on some days and use the regular heat and drink hot tea or chocolate.
