It's a common belief that GOD ONLY HELP THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES. Now i believe it more than ever. tongiht when I am searching some job positions, I happen to read one piece that a part-time handlet deliver is wanted. I immediately tell my cousin since she earns very little, not enough to support herself and her son. guess what her reaction is? she first asked me where, and working hours, that's understandable. Then she asked me if it was far from her home. I got a bit angry. why? because she workds for a small businessman, every day she has to rise early abd begin work at 5.00am till 9.00 only been paid less than 60 dollars PER MONTH! Then during the whole day, she has nothing to do but stay home or play cards with some friends. I really can't understand why someone kills her time like that while struggling for bread ? It doesn't matter whether you are rich or poor, but what really matters is one need to work hard if she or he has a family to support or spend one's time constructively. so, there is a quite good reason why some people remain poor and lead unstable life. There is no one else to blame but themselves !

I agree with that. There are opportunities out there for people but if they won't do it then what are they complaining about. There are those in lesser paying jobs that are really content, but when it hurts your family then something else needs to be done. Here she has an opportunity, but she seems like her free time is more important than providing for her family. I'm sorry, that is sad to see. Sometimes people don't even realize they are doing it and just won't get outside suggestions. It is especially harder when it is a family member, like yourself, seeing another one struggle by their own choice.

You are absolutely right of course. Often people who assume the comfortable road never learn about the feeling of achievement. If they are making it, even because of help from friends or family, the thought of jumping out into the unknown is just too frightening for them. For those of us who face those concerns we find that what we may have been concerned about not only did not exist, but we find that we are able to do so much more than we thought. Most learn this at a young age. Some do not. Your cousin may continue to look for reasons why changing is a bad thing until she finds that, making that change, was not that bad after all. And then her life will improve. God does help us but that help only comes when we are willing to look, and then follow through on that help. You did that, found just what your cousin needed, but her fear of change made it difficult to see. It may have been the answer to her prayers, or it may not. The fact that you found that position for her does not necessarily mean it was God's will for her. He may have something else planned for her. Only time, and her ability to look for that help, will tell. When opportunity knocks often it is the Lord trying to get our attention.

Thank you for the best response. I do hope you are able to help your cousin see the path to a good life is not always the easy one. In fact it never is.

God may reward the efforts of those who are trying their best to help themselves. And also God helps those are helpless and have reached the end of the road and just couldn't do anything. Poor victims of injustice are helpless against rich adversaries, they don't stand a chance. The only chance they have is their faith in God that God helps the helpless. Laziness and not wanting to help oneself is entirely a different matter. enjoy!

in some cases that is true but in others not really. you could have lost your job or become sick so you couldnt work and that is no fault of your own. the trick is how to deal with situations like these and make the best of them.

Hi cher: you have remark an important fact that is that everybody don't have the same opportunities as the rest of the people. In some cases you want to make things but you don't the chance to prove your abilities

I also believe that god help those who help themselves. I was on a client call this morning. Initially, I was too lazy to go. I pray that god will help me to sustain this day. My client call was a three hour drive. So I try to get up and place god in my heart while telling him to guide and stay with me during my day. And you know what god did, he help me close a sale today. With the long travel and a 30 minute presentation, my customer likes it and signed up immediately. If I didn't do it, I think I won't be blessed with a sale. I agree with you that lack of hardwork can make another person's life stagnant. We just have to do our best and god will do the rest.

Your right god only helps thouse who help themselves which is why i blame god for obesity. Overweight people have no problems helping themselves which lead me to believe that they are having a helping hand in things so lets chalk one up for the big guy. We should really try to find out why there are so many poor overweight people, kinda make little sence to me. Anyway as to your comment i dont think god helps anyone his job was done long ago which is why the bible was made as a guide. Anyway if your lazy then yes your not going to make crap for money and have an unstable life.

I agree with you. I had always been taught during my childhood that God helps those who help themselves. There was once a case where I enrolled in a review class for the upcoming CPA board exams. There is this one reviewee who seem to spend her whole day praying at the church but her reviewers (test quizzes, mock board exams) are untouched and unaswered. COme the day the result of the board was released, she did not pass. I think the explanation for this one is that, how could God help someone if that someone is not willing to help themselves. I wish your friend realizes the opportunity she is missing by just playing cards and languishing at home doing nothing. If not for her sake then for her son, she should take on the job you told her.

I know people like your cousin and I get so irritated with that thinking. If she could not find a job, well, that is one thing. They are scarce. Still, sitting home and playing cards and hanging with friends is not going to find her a job. Doesn't sound as if she even wants one. Is she getting welfare? 60.00 per month is not even enough to support herself let alone herself and her son. My daughter dated a single dad who collected welfare. He had two kids and worked a few hours per day as a Pizza delivery guy. He would not do weekends. He was constantly behind in his electric bill and rent and looking to borrow money. I suggested that he find another job to fill in all those hours that he was not working and the kids were in school. He did not want to lose any of his welfare benefits. I could see why. He spent each Friday and Saturday nite at the bar. He drove a pretty nice car compliments of the system. He had a flat screen tv and computer. He had more food stamps then he knew what to do with and they provided his kids with 200.00 worth of clothing every 3 months. He got more benefits but I'm not sure what they were. All this and still he struggled and begged for help.

Yes, my friend, it's common here. They always only complain everything without action. What they hope is to get everything without effort. But it's true that complaint only works nothing. I also met someone like this, I sympathized with them, and tried to help them. Like you, I give them employment information, but after I told them this, the first word is "what's the salary?", "Is it far?", "Am I requested overtime job?" Like this, it makes me angry and disappointed. I think if the people help themselves, that means they are in action. It shows their will to change something. Such as your example, if your cousin begin to help herself. That means she really want to change her present situation. If you give your help in this situation, I think the person will be grateful to accept it. As I'm a Christian, and a few weeks ago we just discuss this word "God only help those who help themselves". I think it shows God's justice. Just imagine, if a person without any action, just request everything to God, God give everything as his/her requests, is that fair? In another hand, if you are not in action, that means you are not so unsatisfied with your situation. You are willing to keep everything in original situation. Why must He work for you? - Maybe the person will complain again, "Oh, you give me the bad job, low salary, far away, overtime job. ...." Haha...Did I say too much? Sorry, and enjoy mylotting!

yeah, that is true God only inspires and a person need to move to enjoy the luxury of life without it God could not help you if you do not make an effort to help yourself. Thus, laziness and having a dull ind are twins. If a person like to gain wealth and enjoy life at its best peak one need to find a reliable income or if unable to find need to create an opportunity to have a resources of income rather than waiting for others to help or to pray to God everyday is useless i one do not persevere..

Yes I do believe it, I know that the very first person that will help you is you yourself. Dont expect help from god or other people if you dont want to help yourself. You should first take action before anyone else. And for your cousin, I believe she is very irresponsible knowing that she had a son already.

If God only helped those who helped themselves we'd all be in trouble! Where does that phrase come from anyway? Its often quoted as being Biblical but its not in there. Not that I don't agree we shouldn't do what we can. I just think sometimes God also helps us when we have noway of helping ourselves and nowhere to turn. You really need to walk in someone elses shoes if you are going to judge them. I have to work part time because I have arthritis. I could choose to work full time but when I have done this, I am only able to pretty much go to bed for the rest of the day and have no life outside work. So, I choose to work part time and still be able to keep my home and cook for my husband, and have some quality of life instead of being in pain all the time. There are people who look at me a judge this, basically because I have a disability they cannot see. That, frankly, is their problem...lol I also cannot take work too far from home, as I have no transport, so it is pointless if the cost of getting there outweighs the amount I earn. People have different reasons and until you live their life its hard to judge what they should do.

That is true. There's definitely no use for one to pray all the time without making even a single move or exerting even the slightest bit of effort. It's just as good as getting a job, working to get paid. No employer in his right mind would hire and pay someone to just lounge around just daydreaming, unless that is the work he's been hired for. Oh man, I got to find myself a job like that. Heh heh. But sometimes, even if you've given everything you've got, risked everything and gave up everything to the point of you having close to nothing but the clothes on your back, you still don't get rewarded no matter how much you believe in the goodness and power of God. Sometimes it just doesn't work at all. During these times, best you could think of is that everything happens for a reason. Maybe this is to teach you a lesson, where you have to think twice of the things you've done in the far or immediate past and you just might be suffering the consequences of your actions. Or maybe there's something greater waiting for you in the very near future and that it's simply a test if you could really take what's coming.

Hi magic: I have had the same feeling about some people that have troubles but don't help themselves. In this case it's really truth this belief: god only helps those who help themselves. If you want something better in your life you have to work for it.

Hi magic yes God really helps us more when we try to do for ourselves but in the range of jobs sometimes people do not'take low paying jobs only because they have to make a certain amount of money to just be able to pay rent here in southern california it is not that they are lazy or unwilling to take any job, if they do not make enough to rent an apartment and have an address they cannot really get a good job here as you must have an address in order to even apply for work so its a vicious circle here inCa.

I believe in what you wrote "There is no gain with out any pain" With out hard work we cannot even stand ourselves. Every second of life is important We don't know what is the surprise tomorrow is bringing for us . What we can do is on today itself. If we think tomorrow to be happy we have to work hard today. Thats simple logic nature teaches when time comes.
