5. dorannmwin (2310) | 3 months ago | The way that I've come to define the frugal living that our family is now living is that we are living within or below our means instead of living outside our means. What this means to us is that at the end of the week we still have money left over. We aren't spending money on things that we can't afford and in the long run it makes us a lot more comfortable than the majority of people. Our goal is to get ahead in life and to have our house paid off by the time that I am 40 and my husband is 45. We bought the house when I was 27 and he was 33 and we are going to be able to do it because we've learned not to be frivelous.

6. hellcowboy (4861) | 3 months ago | This is a good discussion, and I know that being frugal is important in this economy, since no one has any money, and I do not think that being frugal means someone is poor because no one has any money right now since there are so many people out of work and other terrible things, and I think even rich people can be frugal since frugal just means trying to find cheaper ways to do things,or buyer cheaper things to save money wherever you can which I know me and my wife try to be frugal whenever possible, and my parents do as well and I think everyone should be a little frugal if they are not already doing so,have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

| 7. cherrylover (69) | 3 months ago | i absolutely agree. being frugal means you are careful with your money, not necessarily that you are poor. i think that people who live frugally will survive better in this recession than those who seeks to hide their poverty. in the end their deeds will still bring them crashing down to bankruptcy, so what's really the point? better to save the penny for another rainy day. especially a really stormy one.:)

8. sweetgirl_k1 (3157) | 3 months ago | I don't think that living frugal means you are poor. I just think it shows that you know how to save money and have more money in your pocket. If you have more money in your pocket you could pay off bills and then have even more. A lot of families live this way now and I think it's a good thing. If more people would learn to be like this more people would have money and not have to live paycheck to paycheck or have to borrow money to be able to live.

9. LovingLife139 (519) | 3 months ago | Frugal does not mean poor; it usually is a synonym for "financially smart."
My husband and I, between the two of us, make over $40,000 a year, which for many people is simply not enough money. We've been frugal since before we were married, and $40,000 a year is almost too much for us. My husband feels pressured to finish his college degree, but I keep telling him, "Don't be too eager...then we'll have too much money!"
My father, like me, is a real estate investor (although he is into both residential and commerical real estate, while I like residential best). He makes nearly $200,000 a year. Yet, he's the best and most insistent "dumpster diver" I know. His favorite website is CraigsList because you can get tons of perfectly good things for extremely cheap or even free. He only likes to eat out on special occasions because he thinks it's a waste of money. He also follows behind everyone at his house turning off lights and water, etc., that aren't being used. Although he can afford to pay extra on bills and to eat out, etc., he saves resources and money on a consistent basis because he is financially smart. I think this is very admirable of him; many of his successful friends make jokes at his expense, however, because he lives as if he needs to save money. In reality, he doesn't let the money take away his intelligence.

10. scheng1 (1700) | 3 months ago | I think the opposite is true. Many poor people find that they need to show off,so that people do not think that they are poor. Many rich people are so rich and famous that they can afford to live frugally. They spend only when they can charge to business account as entertainment expenses, other than that, they will not spend on unnecessary purchase. I have a friend who is a millionaire, yet he likes to buy the cheap tin of sardine, cost about a dollar, and eats with porridge. The total cost of the meal hardly exceed a dollar and fifty cent.
