What's up with Associated Content? email this discussion to a friend?

Right now I am frustrated. Associated Content wants something for nothing...or at least that's how it appears. I have submitted 5 articles this week, and every one has been turned down for upfront payment. I already submit plenty that have been published elsewhere for page views only, and I am beginning to wonder if they just want me to keep on doing that?

Then, I went to accept some "Call for Content" titles. Last time I did this, the articles paid $3.50 each. This time they are paying $2.00. That's quite a drop in price!

What's going on at AC? Am I just having a run of bad luck, or is it something with the site? What has your experience been lately?

$2 is usually the payment for the Call for Content articles. They did go up for a little while, but I think it is the time of year. As far as upfront payments - I have no idea what the heck the problem is. They keep going down on payments and it's a wonder anyone is submitting articles. I noticed they are already putting up Christmas titles and a lot of them are PV only. I think they just want to keep the money for themselves. lol

myLot reputation of 99/100. AnythngArt (1670)   ranked 7 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Maybe you are right, and it is the end-of-the-year factor. I decided that I would just write to the Call for Content articles I have selected and head on over to Helium for awhile. Cool my jets, so the speak.

LOL. I think I need to concentrate some on Helium as well. I have a lot of articles that I can transfer over there. Most of them need to be re-written and spell checked. LOL

I hate caio. One of those things been, there, done that make more money on Associated Content and it gives residuals. This month I haven't written anything and I am over $16. Yeah! LOL

Hmm.. What exaclty is Call for Content and where would I find them on Associated Content? Also, in your opinion, which website is better for earnings - Associated Content or Helium?

I just joined Associated Content and submitted an article. I like it so far. I'm not very familiar with it though. I also plan to join and try out Helium.

myLot reputation of 96/100. mommaj (1025)   ranked 3 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Call for Content is on your account page. It will be "suggestions" for articles. Sometimes they pay well sometimes they don't. As far as which one pays better, AC hands down. Helium pays mostly pv. If you can get 5 writing stars on Helium you make $2.50 an article as an "upfront". AC is limitless on upfront payments. Since both pay page views, I say AC is a better money maker since you are in the US and can get upfront payments.

It's always good to try out Helium too. If you are writing to get noticed then you want to join as many writing sites as you can.

Thanks for letting me know I am not the only one! I'm way too sensitive to be a writer, but it's what I like to do. I have decided to focus on Helium and only do Calls for Content (with guaranteed payment for writing) over at AC for awhile. And check out Constant Content...do you write for them?

Wish I had known about the spell checker/grammar checker I use now when I applied for constant content. Although, their refusal letter misspelled comma. Do you think I will ever take them seriously? LOL

When you start writing for them, make sure your articles are perfect.

I must admit, I think AC are taking the pee-eye-ess with we writers. They are rapidly reaching the level of scam merchants IMHO.

Why not try Constant Content instead? They're no relation - and a whole lot better, though their demands whistleare quite high re quality - or so I've heard. Not had the guts to go there yet!

You're better off doing tasks here than wasting time at AC. whistle

You know, I have been meaning to write something for Constant Content, and maybe now is the time. I am not worried about my grammar because I used to be an editor. It is more about having the right topics and information that's in demand with Constant Content. You are right; there is no time better than the present to try them out!
Thanks for the push.

If you look at there sister site eHow you will see many members have been scammed. Once a user reaches $25 per month they are banned from the site and what's even worse is there articles then go under an eHow editor.

If you like things like eHow I suggest trying out Bukisa it is much better then eHow. Also if you like doing the articles associated content asks for you might want to check out text broker. On text broker you get .01 per word per article. Sometimes more. So a 350 word article is $3.50

dimmusacio (65)  1 month ago

Almost forgot search google for the keyword eHow account banned scam and you will see others who have had it happened.

Hi Art, Associated Content is a business, not just a writing site. The team in AC will not how well written the article is, the concern is on the commercial value of the articles.
They have some kinds of formulas to calculate the potential commercial value of the article.
I suggest that you do an experiment with AC. I have written an article about PLR articles, and under the Resource box, I have put in three sites to download free PLR articles.
I suggest that you download the articles, borrow the ideas and rewrite a couple of articles entirely. And submit to AC, see if they accept the articles and give you a higher upfront.
Those articles about forex, stock market, finance topics are always in demand. Those are the ones that will generate higher advertising revenue for AC.

myLot reputation of 99/100. AnythngArt (1670)   ranked 7 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Scheng, you are wise, truly.

Maybe it was the subject matter. Most of them were travel articles, and one was on architecture. I think I will take your advice and do a little writing on financial topics.

In the meantime, I am working on another article with one of my favorite topics, wine. The holidays are coming up, so that should be more in demand.

Thanks for the advice.

Hi Art, I think you can write many articles about wine, such as gift giving using wine, the kind of wine suitable for office party, the kind of wine suitable for christmas party.
too bad my stupid laptop on hospitalization leave now, I can't do much using my brother's computer.
I have download more than a thousand PLR articles, and some of the ideas in the gift giving articles are very good. I can't even imagine doing research for "retirement gift for police officer". I dont even know that such crazy article exists! I guess I will rewrite into birthday gift for teenage boys, since many boys like to watch those james bond shows, and anything that interests the retired police officer will interest them too.

Oooooh! Did someone say wine? I was at a huge tasting last night with about 200 wines. There was also food and music.

myLot reputation of 96/100. mommaj (1025)   ranked 3 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Canellita, I better see an article out of you! Now I know. LOL

Anything, AC is also a little biased. Change your bio to include travel activities and wine tasting. If they they think the article would be more believable from a guy, they also won't give you any upfront payment. Change your bio as an expertise in some of the areas you are writing about. It couldn't hurt.

myLot reputation of 99/100. AnythngArt (1670)   ranked 7 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Canelita, I want to go to your tastings. That thing must have been huge. Normally at tastings, there are maybe a dozen or two wines to try, not hundreds. My article is on Cotes du Rhone, a wonderful wine (although not as good as Chateauneuf du Pape, but more affordable).

What kind of wine did you enjoy most? With all that food, wine, and song, you probably don't even remember! LOL

myLot reputation of 99/100. scheng1 (1654)   ranked 4 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Mommaj very funny! I wonder what kind of profile Art and Canellita can use to come across as expert! Definitely not drunkards, and "wine-taster" does not sound like a profession.
"TV expert" sounds good, provided they are able to get a two-minutes interview on TV. Otherwise, "consultant" is the best choice. If they can find a white-washed house, and they can recommend some wine to the residents inside, they can say that they are "consultants to the white house".

myLot reputation of 99/100. AnythngArt (1670)   ranked 7 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Scheng, I want you as my publicist. Actually I have been in the real White House for lunch once. Do you think that counts? We didn't drink any wine, however. I think I had ice tea with lunch. It was a long time ago!

I'm sure many people will be curious to read about the protocol of lunch in White House, and all the security measures.

myLot reputation of 99/100. AnythngArt (1670)   ranked 7 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

I don't have any pictures, and I didn't have lunch with the president. I ate in the staff quarters, which was still pretty amazing. I do have the menu somewhere packed away. Maybe I should dig that up. I could probably combine it with some other Washington events I experienced (seeing an ambassador sworn in at the State Department, seeing Gorbachev on the street, etc) so it wouldn't be too dull. Thanks for the idea!

They are really frustrating me lately. I haven't seen an assignment for pay in forever...most of them are for performance pay only. When I signed up, waaaaaaaaaaaay back in the beginning (the site went live in January and I signed up in August), you were guaranteed $4 (or declined completely, obviously). $4-30 was their pay scale according to the TOS. The last article I submitted for upfront payment they offered me $1.52!!! I emailed the editors and asked why (they also used to be really good about leaving a comment to justify their offer, especially if it was low) and never got a response.

myLot reputation of 99/100. AnythngArt (1670)   ranked 7 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

If you really want to be depressed, when I first started writing for Associated Content (before the pay for views was included), we used to make $8-10 for an article and some folks were making as much as $25 for something popular.

I don't make that much on page views yet so it never supplements my upfront payment to that degree. I guess the thing that really upset me was seeing so many poorly written articles on AC and then getting rejected 5 times in a row. However, as Scheng pointed out, it likely has more to do with topics (and their popularity) than how well anyone writes.

Mine is same story. I left it after so much embarrassment as I was not paid. Performance pay system at AC is really bad. There are lot of other paying sites available. God bless

myLot reputation of 89/100. crimsonladybug (1885)   ranked 35 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

I actually resigned my post as a category editor because I was sick of wading through the crap trying to find well-written, "feature worthy" articles that had a photo and a "real" byline ("John Smith" instead of JS840, or something equally unprofessional).

myLot reputation of 99/100. scheng1 (1654)   ranked 4 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Hi Crimsonladybug, I'm sure there is nothing wrong with your writing skill, what is wrong is the commercial value of the article to AC.
AC relies on Google Adsense to power the advertisement in the middle of the article. If the article can lure those high paying advertisement, and a single click of the advertisement can make $10 for AC, you will definitely get a higher upfront.
If the advertisement yields an average of 20 cents per click, and the average number of click in a month is less than 10, that will yield less than $2 advertising revenue for AC. In this case, I doubt they even want to offer upfront. The page view payment will probably eats up all the revenue.
You can try writing articles using those high paying keywords, and see how much AC offers. If you write about "the job of wrongful death attorney", you will probably get more than $20 upfront.

myLot reputation of 89/100. crimsonladybug (1885)   ranked 35 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Oh I know it has nothing to do with my skills. I've gotten low offers before on articles but they tell me it's because there is already too much on the topic or the SEO is not high enough ....but this last one there was no explanation to help me fix whatever they thought was wrong.

myLot reputation of 99/100. scheng1 (1654)   ranked 4 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Hi Crimsonlady, have you computed the keyword density for your article. I think you can rewrite many articles to incorporate enough seo into them.
As a rule, if you have enough keyword density, that will give your article an edge in search engine result. Try to make it 3% for every article. And choose those keywords carefully.

For me, it has been a while since I have tried submitting anything there. The main reason being is they never were wanting to accept my articles for payment. So they might be having problems now paying everyone due to the Economy so they are able to pay less? Who knows, but it would be nice if everyone would know. Just hope it is just a minor glitch and not something serious for sure.

myLot reputation of 99/100. AnythngArt (1670)   ranked 7 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

I think the economy is likely having an impact on the site, as well as it being the 4th quarter. However, they would save a lot of grief if they would just tell writers that instead of acting like the writing isn't good enough.

I wondered if I had ruined my own luck with getting paid since I post a lot of previously written articles for page views only. They think, well, we can get it for free eventually, why pay her?

Right now I am sticking to Call for Content articles, but you've got to jump on those offering money because they get snatched up fast!

I had two things rejected for upfront payment recently as well. I am thinking of changing the titles and resubmitting them. One was sent back to me with a different title that had nothing to do with what the article was about! I don't think the reviewer actually read it. Both were not "unique" enough and I was told to post one immediately for page views. Well, if it was good enough for publication at all why couldn't they come up with an offer?

myLot reputation of 99/100. AnythngArt (1670)   ranked 7 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Well, that's discouraging. They didn't even send back the right article. Not that I want anyone to have their work rejected, but it makes me feel a little better to know that I am not the only one experiencing this.

Good luck, maybe we should all focus on the topics of the month. I know one was personal finance (as Scheng pointed out). I'll have to go back and reread the email.

myLot reputation of 74/100. Stringbean (1094)   ranked 97 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

When I first started writing for AC, I was often paid $8-$10 and once even $14 for an article. Over the years, the pay has steadily decreased, and I'm pretty sure the quality of my writing has not. Earlier this year, I was being offered between $4 and $5.50 for almost every article I sent them. Then, in August, I sent in 5 articles that had offers like $2.00, $1.59, $2.56, or rejected entirely. Something is definitely wrong there. My page view pay is running about $11-$12 a month and I am at a clout 8. I think they have decided that most people, if they don't get an up-front offer, will go ahead and publish it for page views only, so why should they pay if they don't have to?

It's really discouraging, because I was really enjoying writing there, but I refuse to waste my time producing articles for ten to fifteen cents an hour. I write there under my real name, Jeanne Gibson.

myLot reputation of 96/100. Canellita (3177)   ranked 13 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

I think you are correct in your theory. There are so many people who are desperate to earn any amount of money they can that they will post articles just for the page views and not think about all the time they take with the writing and how the compensation isn't cost effective for them.

I had been holding on to a couple of pieces not sure where to publish them but I think I will just put them on my blogs.

myLot reputation of 99/100. scheng1 (1654)   ranked 4 out of 758 in associatedcontent.com  1 month ago

Since AC has more than a million articles, probably every subject has enough articles, and they do not need too many articles using the same keywords, unless the keyword density is there, and the keywords are expensive keywords.
I think it's time for writers to concentrate on rewrite their older articles, and submit to other writing sites.

Most of mine were travel articles as well. The rejection seemed ironic because I had just done one of their Calls for Content on Art and Travel to NYC. So clearly, they do want travel articles, but just not where I have gone? It's a conundrum. Anyway, best to stick with what they request, if you can manage to snap up the articles in the Call for Content before everyone else does!

Yes, many sites want exclusive rights. If you gave your exclusive rights to Associated Content, they have it forever. It's a loss, but what can you do? You might want to take your articles and rewrite them, so other sites would accept them as new. Good luck with your writing!

Since you are not even eligible for upfront payment, you can simply take down the aticles and submit elsewhere.
The best is to use one single user id for all the writing sites, then nobody can accuse you of plagiarism. Bukisa does not need exclusive rights, Hubpages do not need exclusive rights either. If your article is written with seo techniques, you should get reasonably high page views, regardless where you submit the articles.

Hi, Bukisa is purely by page views payment, at $3.45 per 1,000 page views, and referral rate of 25%.
Bukisa does not pay upfront for anyone, that's why the page view payment is higher. The minimum word count is just 250 words.
I notice that they are getting stricter with gammar.

Atleast it is paying something. Recently I have written some articles at hub pages but I didn't got any penny yet. Actually they do not pay directly, they pay through advertisers and I am waiting to get from these advertisers. So its not easy there Thanks
