I was just watching CNN and was glued to it praying for a 6yrs old boy that they thought had climbed into a balloon his dad had been building on the roof. the boys 7 and 9yrs old brothers told the parents that he had climbed into it and the balloon floated into the air.it went 70 miles and came down without the 6 yr old in it. WELL, they just found out that after an hours search and worry about where he may have fallen out, he was found to be hiding in the atticshocked boy are these kids going to get it! at least the brothers are going to. reminds me of when my daughter went off with a friend and they moved!! so, next day i was franticly trying to find out where they'd taken her and called the policeangry i was scared to death they'd kidnaped her. they dropped her back at the house on the 3rd day. I was so mad. i told them the cops were looking for them and they peeled out. my daughter said she'd told me all about it and forgot to call. yet, it was hard to spank and punish her. i was so releaved. she still teases me after 16yrs later about smacking her butt, then hugging her, then screaming at her, then hugging herlol so have your kids ever scared the bjesus out of you? and what did you do.?

It's sad to see parents or guardians neglecting their children like that. I hope his parents get into a world of trouble. WE has a similar incident that happened here, a couple took a bunch of small children to the beach, and of course, drinking was involved, the couple decided to use the restroom. and lo and behold, all the children got into trouble in the water, and three of them ended up drowning. I was shocked, but then it was the guardian's fault, and I hope the suffer for this.

One of the complaints I heard was that the guardians blamed the lifeguards, but being a lifeguard at one point in my life is that lifeguards are not babysitters, their sole purpose is watch for any trouble in the water, they are not responsible for watching other people's children. Since the beach is pretty much big and there is a limited amount of lifeguards, they all can't be in cover the beach completely.

These parents and guardians need to learn that it is noe and never will be the lifeguards duty to babysit, they are the only one's responsible for watching their own children. Looked what happened to three of the kids, they drowned! Who's fault was that? Not the lifeguards, but the guardians/parents. Negligence homicide, if the death penalty was legal on Guam, i say give it to them.

wow, they found the boy hiding in a box in the attic...

myLot reputation of 98/100. bunnybon7 (3526)   ranked 76 out of 7,141 in family  1 month ago

yes those people at the beach were definately neglegentsad i think though these were not. i think the kids just snuck up to where the balloon was when mom wasnt looking. i was never neglegent of my kids, often accused of being to protective, yet kids will sneak and do something even if you take your eye off them for one minuterolleyes

myLot reputation of 99/100. catdla1 (2620)   ranked 868 out of 7,141 in family  1 month ago

I agree with you Bunny. My parents were vigilant and strict, but I can tell you that in the blink of an eye, I was sneaky and off getting into all kinds of trouble. All the punishments received prior never seemed to deter me when the next hairbrained idea crossed my mind. Accidents can happen to the best of families. When I got older and had my own son, whenever we were somewhere that other children would be, I always sort of kept my eye on what other children were doing.

For the incident at the beach, parents with young children should not be drinking, and certainly should not be visiting the restrooms at the same time. So the parents were negligent in their judgement. But why didn't others at the beach help. While they aren't responsible for what happened, surely some one saw it and did nothing. It sounds like a horrible tragic accident all the way around.

For the most part it is the parents fault, for being to mean, and not teaching their children from right or wrong. The father should have known better than to build that thing without any child safety harness on that balloon, but all and all, the hid is safe, but there will be reprimands for the parents from the public.

im not sure about that. right now im watching Larry King Live and a newsman is interviewing the whole family. asking questions, etc. all 3 little boys act like they are pretty roudyrolleyes the dad just broke down nearly crying even tho hes holding the little meany now, while hes talking about how he thought the boy could have fallen out. so obviously he never thought such a thing would happensad dont think he will ever build something like that again with the kids having access to itlol

I was so paranoid that I never lost my kids but they had a friend whose parents dropped him off for a couple hours and didn't show up till 3 days later! Poor kid was only 7 years old and he cried himself to sleep in my lap the second night, worried that they'd never come back. I was about to call the cops when they showed up--and offered me drugs as a reward for keeping their child! angry My local child protective services got an anonymous call but it was NEVER acted upon! angry

On a lighter note I couldn't find my dog, Cookie, one spring day. I looked all over the house and yard, in the locked garage, she was nowhere to be found. I called all over the house and outside then went driving around asking total strangers and showing her picture. I went home in tears and went to put my sweater in the closet--and there she was! She never said a word when she heard me calling, no scratching, no nothing. I always check the closets now before I close them.

Btw, I just read a story that quoted the guy's former partner as saying he split with the dad because he often put the kids in harm's way. The final straw was when Hurricane Ike was attacking the coast and he wanted to take his children with him.

did you see Larry King Live tonight? they interveiwed the family. all 3 little boys were there. the little ones pretty rowdy. you can tell he likes attention. the dad was still shaken. nearly cried even tho he was holding on to the kid in front of the camerasad

myLot reputation of 98/100. dragon54u (9428)   ranked 645 out of 7,141 in family  1 month ago

I didn't watch that show, no. I have no doubt that he loves his children! I just question his judgment from what I've read.

What disturbs me is that people are making accusations of a hoax because he called the news stations before he called the cops. Now, if you wanted a chopper in the sky fast would you call the cops first? NO! You'd call the blood vultures at your local news stations who are eager for drama and death.

I don't think it was a hoax. It may not have been what we think but I feel very sure it wasn't a publicity stunt as some news media are hinting at.

Holy crap thats what happened to the kid? I was wondering. I watched this whole thing unfold u untill the baloon landed and the kids wasn't in it. At that point the speculation that the basket he may have been sitting in, attatched to the baloon, may have fallen off in the beginning of the flight. I became occupied after that so I didn't get to catch up until now.
What I don't get was, was the kid hiding because he thought he was in big trouble for letting his dads baloon float off? Or was it a prank?

myLot reputation of 98/100. bunnybon7 (3526)   ranked 76 out of 7,141 in family  1 month ago

in the interview the kid said he had gotten in trouble before for the balloon. his dad had already warned him about the balloon. so he was most likely pouting. he seems to be pretty mischeivious on this tv interveiw i watched.

Thanks for the update. I just read about that story online but they were searching for the boy at the time the article was written. I'm glad to know the boy is safe... for now, anyway.

Yeah, my youngest son did something that scared the bejesus out of me. He was about 9 years old. A boy in his class had died just a week earlier by playing near a small but fast-moving river near our house. It was little more than a creek, but the water moved so fast that the boy lost his footing and drown. I lectured both of my sons to never play around that area. They were NEVER to go down to the river!

A week after that, my son went to play with a friend of his. When he didn't come home on time, I went looking for him. I finally found him, soaking wet from the waist down. He told me he fell in his friend's swimming pool. I learned very quickly that his friend did not have a swimming pool.

After a bit of prodding, I got the truth out of my son. He had been playing in the exact area where the other boy had drown only a week earlier. I went ballistic! He got such a spanking that I'm sure he still feels it. My husband had to pull me off of him! Of course, right after that, I had to hug him and cry. Just the thought of how close he came to being another statistic really hit home. After the hugging and kissing came the lecture... the LOUD lecture! Then, of course, another hug.

Ah, kids. The joys of motherhood. I'm still trying to figure out what, exactly, they are and my boys are adults now! lol

I heard this story on the news, but had not heard that the child was found. It's good to know he is okay.

I have 5 kids, so of course I've had a few scary moments where I thought I'd lost one. We were at the fair one year, which is really huge here in NY. There were 3 adults, me, hubby, and my friend who was visiting, and we were in charge of my 5 kids. Well hubby took the 2 older boys to the bathroom. My daughter said she didn't have to go, so she stayed with me, my friend, and the 2 youngest boys who were still in diapers. My friend and I were chatting, and after a few moments I realized my daughter wasn't with us anymore!!

I stayed calm at first, figuring she'd changed her mind and gone to the bathroom with the boys. But then hubby came out of the building with the 2 boys but no daughter!! That's when I freaked out. So hubby and my friend both ran back into the building to find her. Thankfully it wasn't that hard, she was still near the entrance way, just wandering aimlessly trying to find her dad. We were all freaked out but she had no idea!

Thankfully, my son never did anything like that, or nothing that I ever heard of anyway. When I was little I was the one doing stuff like that to my poor, sainted mother. Half of her grey hairs weren't age-related. I gave them to her. As soon as I turned 3, I thought I was old enough to do things on my own (or so she told me). Once, when she was on the telephone I decided to walk several blocks away to the park to play on the swings. Another time while shopping I snuck away, left the store and went to another store to ride the escalators up and down. Needless to say, I suffered my share of 'huggy spanks'.

myLot reputation of 98/100. bunnybon7 (3526)   ranked 76 out of 7,141 in family  1 month ago

i did a few things like that im sure but i never got the HUGGY kind of spanks, i got the raging beatingssad so i was a bit scared to do much. anyway, i guess i made up for it by being extra loving to my kidslol they all know how much i love them and always tried to protect them from themselvesrolleyes

They think that it may have been some attempt at a publicity stunt.
But I can't see how they were going to hide the boy for ever, or maybe they were intending on some miraculous survival story.
It's a weird story, starting with the reason for the ballon in the first place.

myLot reputation of 98/100. bunnybon7 (3526)   ranked 76 out of 7,141 in family  1 month ago

i think its the fact that the dad is a scientist and chases storms etc. i think they plan on making the whole family with that career.

I saw the news and the police taught it was only a family stunt because they were the one who invented that balloon. I was also focused on the news when it aired and thankfully there was no kid in there

myLot reputation of 93/100. solared (843)   ranked 5,217 out of 7,141 in family  1 month ago

Yeah it was a stunt, an it cost millions of dollars too, why you ask because they had military helicopters tracking the balloon thats why.

I dont think it was for publicity. i think it was an awful accident. people are always willing to think the worst of everyone. im not like that im always one that give people the benefit of the doubt. rolleyes
