Is Coffee Good for a Child? |
|
Yesterday, one of my friend has been givin his child coffee in the afternoon so that the baby can stay up longer and then would be tired at night. In fact, I was so worried about that when I met such a situation.
For adults, coffee can make them nervous and anxious and you may be addicted to it if you drink coffee all the time. There is a report said that parents should avoid giving caffeine to children until they are at least six.
So, what's your opinion when it comes to coffee and kids? Is Coffee Good for a Child or drinking coffee will lead to some side effects? Is a child is too young for coffee?

I would have to say definatly no, I don't think that coffee is good for kids at all. I think it is very selfish of people to that just so that there child will sleep at night. I used to keep my son up until a suitable time for him to go to bed but that was through interaction with him and keeping him entertained until he got used to the routine. I would then give him a bath to calm him down again when it was time for bed. Giving coffee to a child is just being lazy and in my eyes wrong. People have seen what it can do to adults, think what it would do to a child.

Doctors advice is not good to have coffee childrens or for adults. For adults having coffee makes the body temperature high and for childrens they dont grow and as well its not for health.

| 26. skinnyman (22) | 1 month ago | I would like to add an input in this discussion and state that i did not start drinking coffee till like 16. And even then it was only like a few cups a week.
Coffee contains caffeine which gives a feel good factor and some say is addictive. There are people out there who genuinely need this to function however, most of us just drink it because we want to be a little perkier (and this is not a good thing).
As far as giving it to children. I would have to say that any one who does this is crazy. If anyone i knew did that to their children i would be shocked. Its an adults drink (as i was taught):D

27. dragon54u (9465) | 1 month ago | Your friend is incredibly selfish. Caffeine affects more than the child's wakefulness. It can hurt their kidneys and liver. You didn't say how old the child is but children operate on the schedule that their bodies tell them to, the ideal schedule that promotes their individual growth and development. By doing this, your friend is upsetting her child's body to a degree that can stunt the child's growth both mental and physical.
Better he or she should begin putting the child to bed later, gradually, a few minutes at a time. 5 minutes later one night, 10 the next few nights and increase it in 15 minute increments. Of course, this will mean the child will awaken later, too. Children need a certain amount of sleep that cannot be adjusted without danger to them.

29. DeenaD (2184) | 1 month ago | I definitely think that young children should not be given coffee to drink. It contains a large amount of caffeine, which is not good for them. It habituates them to the taste of coffee at a very young age, which runs the risk of turning them into coffee addicts later on. And furthermore, it may stain their teeth.
Now, having said that, I know one lady who gave coffee to her young granddaughter every afternoon when the child came home early from kidnergarten. This child did not later on develop any of the problems, and many people have assured me that in other cultures, this is really quite normal and is not seen as a problem at all.
Still, though, I would never do it.

| chrisanimelo444 (97) | 1 month ago | Hmm, I didn't know that other cultures allowed children to drink coffee. Very interesting news indeed. I agree though - coffee shouldn't be given to children. Caffeine can definitely present a lot of health risks in children.
