Do you ever clean up/straighten your home for something other than company? |
|
I'm not talking about the regular chores you do every day or week. See, tomorrow is my next back surgery. And after the first night I'll be coming home to my apartment (1st night I have to be with someone, so I'll be with my parents). So I spent most of this afternoon making sure everything is where it needs to be. Fresh sheets on the bed, clothes hung up in closet, vacuuming...Friday I went to the store and got many nutritional drinks and easy meals to make since I won't be going much anywhere for at least a week.
This is the same surgery I had a couple of months ago, just on a different part of my back. I wasn't prepared for the results last time. I thought it would be like the other back procdures. But it wasn't. So everything seems in order at my house right now. Growing up my mom would want the house in perfect condition before we left for vacation. Her thinking was that she'd have laundry and unpacking to do when we got back from vacation, so leaving it as nice as possible would save her some stress when we got home.
Do you clean or pick up your home for any other reason besides having company over?

1. Hatley (20810) | 2 months ago | hi ambiepam I am glad you will be with your parents at first after your surgery, I do hope this goes much better for you too. Yep,I was a lot like your mom when we had our own apartment which is why its been so hard for me here, I am pampered to death almost, I mean my bed is made and every few days the linen is changed, the floor is vacumned, and I am fed in our communal dining room. They check on me several times a day just to see if I need anything or are feeling okay. I am so not used to that. I did my own cooking my own cleaning, just because I am elderly does not mean I am stupid or senile. I could take care of myself. But my son was out of work and out of money and really worried sick about me, so this was best for now and he is in a gov.sponsored housing with three other guys so they can all look for work and have an address.

2. Fulltank (1125) | 2 months ago | Whenever, I visited someone's house for the first time, the first immediate reaction is to see how the house is being managed by the owners. And the best place to see how the owner manages the house their toilet. This very important spot on your house reflect truly what you are. When there's someone visiting our house, the first thing I would do is to ensure that the toilet looks fresh and clean. Its not that I don't clean it regularly, but for extra precaution, I need to make it perfect. If someones here to stay for the night, my wife check the guest room and see to it that all are well-placed and cleaned (bedroom, towels, soaps, brush, toothpaste, etc).

AmbiePam (15289) | 2 months ago | Oh yes. When I do have company coming over, I check my toilet. Especially if it is a guy because they raise the seat! Being a woman living alone, my toilet seat never goes up. lol

3. book1962 (14567) | 2 months ago | oh Ambie I hope everything will work out fine for you. I have that coming week off so I will notice when you make an update on how things went for you. No I rarely straighten our place for anything else than company apart from the usual routine. My mom was a perfectionist and I try my best to not fall into that trap too.

AmbiePam (15289) | 2 months ago | My grandmother was a perfectionist. My mom tried I think, but she loosened up. She never really worried too much about how the house looked, or how we looked until her mom came for a visit!

book1962 (14567) | 2 months ago | hi Ambie I guess I would freak out too if my mom comes for a visit but she wont as my new home is much too far away for her to see. I know that she would instantly label me a bad housekeeper again. But I dont care any more cause this is MY place and My rules apply here and not hers. Plus my husbands certainly who is disabled and does most of the housekeeping as I rake in the cash

4. BlueGoblin (1393) | 2 months ago | I'm lazy when it comes to household chores. People must think I'm a pig because I don't even bother to clean before company. I do feel embarrassed for not keeping things in order. I just don't have the ambition to clean up my own messes. I often just let chores pile up.:(

AmbiePam (15289) | 2 months ago | I have a thing about everything being put in its place. One could come over to my house at any time, and at the worst they would find dust on my bookshelf, or my dog's toys spread around on the floor. I just can't stand to live in a chaotic space. Especially since I'm in an apartment that isn't exactly big.

6. Opal26 (9836) | 2 months ago | Hey Ambie~ I can definitely see your point of logic! I think that if I was in your position I would definitely have done the same thing! It is a good idea to make sure everything is in order for when you come home and you won't have to worry about doing anything strenuous for awhile after your surgery. I think you did the smart thing! And yes, I do straighten up sometimes for other reasons besides having company! Sometimes I do it just because I want it to be in order! Like last week it was time for me to take my winter clothes out and put my summer clothes away! And after I do that I tend to do some other heavy cleaning so I will be continuing with that this week! It is like a seasonal thing! When the weather changes I do some serious cleaning up and cleaning out! I want to wish you well on your surgery and please let us all know when you are well enough to get back online. I will be saying a prayer for you! Hugs, Opal/Leslie

AmbiePam (15289) | 2 months ago | Thanks Opal. Since I'll be home bound for about a week, I only expect to be offline on Monday, possibly Tuesday. I'm thinking I'll be so bored after that, that even if it hurts to sit up, I'll be back on mylot sooner than later.

7. rosepedal64 (1374) | 2 months ago | Hi AmbiePam I first want to say that I wish you well on your surgery. I have had back surgry and I know that it can be a scary thing to go thru. I will be thinking about you. keep a smile on that face. It will be fine my friend. Now back to your discussion. I usually try to do that extra cleaning once a month. All the curtains, behind the stove and fridge, and all those places that don't get the normal cleaning. We both smoke so I try to clean that way once a month to get rid of settled smoke.. You have a great day and remember I will be thinking of you. keep smiling...

AmbiePam (15289) | 2 months ago | You clean behind the fridge - you are a brave woman. I'm scared to clean behind my fridge. Even if I could move it, I don't want to see what has accumulated during the occupancy of all the other people who have lived in my apartment.

8. carpenter5 (1876) | 2 months ago | Absolutely! I am like your mom. I hate to come in after being gone for any length of time to a messy house. Last Christmas when we went to my husband's parents for two weeks, we had just moved. It drove me nuts to come in after being tired from the trip to have boxes all over everywhere.

10. stephcjh (22615) | 2 months ago | I always pick up, cleanup, straighten up and you name it around my house every single day. It does not matter if I am having company or not. I like things to be tidy and clean and to keep it that way, it takes daily work around here.
