Do you ever clean up/straighten your home for something other than company?

hi ambiepam I am glad you will be with your parents at first after your surgery, I do hope this goes much better for
you too. Yep,I was a lot like your mom when we had our own
apartment which is why its been so hard for me here, I am
pampered to death almost, I mean my bed is made and every few days the linen is changed, the floor is vacumned, and I am
fed in our communal dining room. They check on me several times a day just to see if I need anything or are feeling okay. I am so not used to that. I did my own cooking my own cleaning, just because I am elderly does not mean I am stupid or senile. I could take care of myself. But my son was out of work and out of money and really worried sick about me, so this was best for now and he is in a gov.sponsored housing with three other guys so they can all look for work and have an address.

Whenever, I visited someone's house for the first time, the first immediate reaction is to see how the house is being managed by the owners. And the best place to see how the owner manages the house their toilet. This very important spot on your house reflect truly what you are. When there's someone visiting our house, the first thing I would do is to ensure that the toilet looks fresh and clean. Its not that I don't clean it regularly, but for extra precaution, I need to make it perfect. If someones here to stay for the night, my wife check the guest room and see to it that all are well-placed and cleaned (bedroom, towels, soaps, brush, toothpaste, etc).

oh Ambie I hope everything will work out fine for you. I have that coming week off so I will notice when you make an update on how things went for you.
No I rarely straighten our place for anything else than company apart from the usual routine. My mom was a perfectionist and I try my best to not fall into that trap too.

I'm lazy when it comes to household chores. People must think I'm a pig because I don't even bother to clean before company. I do feel embarrassed for not keeping things in order. I just don't have the ambition to clean up my own messes. I often just let chores pile up.:(

Well my house is always pretty clean but if i am having company especailly my mother in law i clean extra special. like on top of the fridge all the corners of my rooms are cleaned with the dust buster and mirrors are cleaned and furniture is polished oh and i make my beds. other wise if its just us here, me and hubby i just make sure my kitchen and living room, bathroom are clean and dishes done. no big cleaning with us just here.

Hey Ambie~ I can definitely see your point of logic! I think
that if I was in your position I would definitely have done
the same thing! It is a good idea to make sure everything is in
order for when you come home and you won't have to worry about
doing anything strenuous for awhile after your surgery. I think
you did the smart thing! And yes, I do straighten up sometimes
for other reasons besides having company! Sometimes I do it just
because I want it to be in order! Like last week it was time for
me to take my winter clothes out and put my summer clothes away!
And after I do that I tend to do some other heavy cleaning so I
will be continuing with that this week! It is like a seasonal
thing! When the weather changes I do some serious cleaning up
and cleaning out! I want to wish you well on your surgery and
please let us all know when you are well enough to get back

I first want to say that I wish you well on your surgery. I have had back surgry and I know that it can be a scary thing to go thru. I will be thinking about you. keep a smile on that face. It will be fine my friend.
Now back to your discussion. I usually try to do that extra cleaning once a month. All the curtains,behind the stove and fridge, and all those places that don't get the normal cleaning. We both smoke so I try to clean that way once a month to get rid of settled smoke..

Absolutely! I am like your mom. I hate to come in after being gone for any length of time to a messy house. Last Christmas when we went to my husband's parents for two weeks, we had just moved. It drove me nuts to come in after being tired from the trip to have boxes all over everywhere.

Sonds like u have everything under control. That's great. U want feel like worrying about it after u get home. I wish u the VERY BEST, tomorrow. Let us know how u are as soon as u feel up to it. I try to keep my house where if company comes anytime i feel good about the house. I do something in the house every day & try to stay ahead of the dirt, lol.

I always pick up, cleanup, straighten up and you name it around my house every single day. It does not matter if I am having company or not. I like things to be tidy and clean and to keep it that way, it takes daily work around here.
