My Experience Working at Wal Mart.

Well as your wife of course you know that I know you work at wal*mart. I also know that I've told a few people that you are now working, because well, I told them! In any case, I told you you didn't have to mylot but am glad you are for this Christmas season. I can't really comment on any of the questions as you already know my answers, or I don't work there/ don't want to work there. I do hate that the Cart Mule keeps breaking and I do wish they'd fix it more swiftly and/ or hire more people so that you can have someone with you at all times since some of the people that worked or work with you now are only available at certain times. I know that we have a friend that works at another wal*mart for a different shift and different department. He tried to transfer but was rejected. We have another friend that wants to get a job there as well.


I love you, and don't worry just do your best. As soon as I get the job I want to get, we'll have more money and I can go to school, then get an even better job and from there you can also go to school and eventually quit wal*mart. I love you.

Yes I use to work for walmart, I worked for them for six years, the year we had 9-11 that was when I started working, for walmart and yes you are right, they are hard on you because I have been there and done that, I started off working in the deli department, I didn't like working in the deli department, because the customers were very rude, so I had them move me to the seafood dept, that was even worse, it was not only the customers, but management to, and when I would get the stock of seafood, I had to put it up by myself, no men to help me, and that seafood was heavy, anyway when I got sick with cancer, I was told my personel, to take my medical leave, because I had to keep going to the doctors, any way one day I had my sister, take me to walmart, and I found out they fired me, and cancelled my insurance, how that for a sweet company.

No, I do not work for Walmart. I did apply once but did not get a job. I know people who have work for Walmart and they were not very happy with them. They said they were worked hard and were not appreciated for all the work they did. I also know some people who work for Walmart are not real happy but say it is a job and in this economy anything is better then not working at all.

Hello Mr Hellcowboy, I did take your discussion seriouslsy and read all through th introduction and although you may possibly think that I shouldn't answer as I don't work at Walmart and have never worked at Walmart I just thought I'd let you know that I keep hearing about Walmart from my American friends on here but have never seen one and don't reallly konw if they are more than just a supermarket as we don't have Walmart in Greece which lead me to wonder if you consider that Walmart is likely to become a gloabla phenomenon like MacDonalds, except in Greece of course?
I hope they give you a change of position soon.

You know what I think that's great. You really can't be picky these days, and who wouldn't want to work for an honest day's wage over being unemployed. So you should consider yourself lucky and try your best to do a really good job. You never know, you might get bumped to cashier for the holidays. Gee wouldn't that be fun.

Well my hubby worked at Walmart twice he was stoker an cart pusher he lked it alot as a matter of fact my brother in law has worked there for 6 years that I know of not sure if he will cutinue because he just finished school he is now a police offericer an hubby no longer works there he was offered a job in law enforcement he has no complaints about working at walmart an if I was allowed to work an not disable yea I would work there

I'll start by saying you have a great attitude. "Any money is better than no money". I say that because I know so many men who would rather sit on the couch than work for under a certain amount or work at a job that they feel is beneath them. It's a pathetic attitude and makes no sense to me.

I do NOT work at Walmart but I do have friends that do. I have one friend that has been there for years and has always loved it. She works on the floor and up until recently has always worked in the health and beauty section. It's funny that you started this discussion because just yesterday I stopped in to pick up a few items for the house and to have a key made up. My friend who is always upbeat and smily was looking pretty stressed. I asked her about it and it seems that Walmart has greatly expanded her responsibilities and yet not expanded her paycheck. She usually had time to pause and chat for a minute but no more. I gave her a quick hug and moved on and let her get back to her work. I then moved on to hardware to get my key made. No one was anywhere near that dept so I looked around for anyone that could help. In the food dept. I came across another friend who has been there for years and never complains. He offered to make the key and I questioned that. He has NEVER worked in hardware. Well he does now and with no experience at all. He had only made one key in the past so it took him quite some time to get it right. Another lady came up and needed paint mixed and he called someone over as he has never done that and still has to learn it. Same story....more work and no more pay. He was stressed. Hang in there. Remember...whatever pay you are getting is helping your family. I don't think Walmart is a nice place to work from all I hear. IT is a paycheck which is what you need now. In the meantime, keep your eyes and ears open for another job that you may enjoy more.

I used to work for Winn-Dixie it is no longer in this area, I used to have to bring the carts in just by pushing them, I tell you one thing it builds leg an back strength I got so good at it, that even when I moved to dairy stock if they needed carts they would ask me to get them.

I would like to work for Wal-Mart I have applied a few times, I just quit working a night shift job for 4 1/2 years 7pm-7am an now Wal-Mart would be a nice change of pace.

As far as I know you should be thankful to have that job, because carts need to be brought in more than things need to be stocked, you are probably getting more hours doing what you are doing than if you were stock or cashier.

You know alot of stock is done at night an early morning an they need to cut hours an make all those people part time, same with cashiers especially as they keep adding more self check outs.

So while you may hate it, considering your starting off, it might be what makes you the most pay right now, most hours anyways.

when i got out of highschool i worked in a big box store here in canada (not walmart) and found it was ok but way understaffed. i was just a newbe and had to look after 4 departments while someone else was on lunch!

I have not worked for Walmart here in America but I did work for Asda, twice, back in England, who are owned by Walmart.

The first time round was ok - my management were nice enough, etc, but thejob, frying doughnuts, was not the best, I used to come home covered in a gross combination of lard, sugar and jelly!

The second time I worked there, after a while I was signed off sick for a couple of weeks. I had Doctors notes and proof that I had along term health issue which they had known about when they employed me. One day I took my sick note in for the week to let them know how long I was signed off for, and I was told 'oh, yes, you finished on Saturday, right?'

I said, 'Excuse me?'

It turned out they had basically fired me that week, for being sick (although that was not the official reason they gave, they didn't actually give a reason!) Previously to my getting sick they had been talking about training me for management - I had previous retail experience and had even been in charge of a department, so I know it was because I was off that they got rid of me.

The worst part was that they did not tell me. I went in on the Monday to hand over my sick note and was informed that I had 'finished' with them the previous Saturday. No notice, and not even told I didn't have a job! If I hadn't still been off sick I would have turned up for work on the Monday and been told to go home again!

So my story is to sympathize, not to discourage - be proud that you got a job, its not easy right now, and make the best of it while looking out for a better position in the store, or somewhere else. Judging from the posts you are in a supportive marriage which makes all the difference.
