What do you do (while your children are at school)? |
|
I'm mother to two wonderful children. My oldest is in first grade and my youngest is three-years-old. When my oldest is at school I spend a lot of time playing with my son and getting him ready to go to school in a couple of years. However, I know that there are a lot of stay-at-home mommies like myself whose children are all in school. I just wondered what those mothers do while the kids are at school. Even if you still have some of your children at home with you during the day, how do you spend your day while the older ones are at school?

dorannmwin (1700) | 1 month ago | I completely know what you mean about having very little time that belongs to you and you alone. It seems like these days I get less and less of that kind of time and I really need it or else I might go insane.

Whatever I want LOL....seriously though, I get the housework done, I cook, do laundry, now that the cold weather is here I'm baking (though not as much as I'd like), I watch movies, read, play around online and so on..and on some days I dont do a dang thing....

dorannmwin (1700) | 1 month ago | That sounds like exactly how I'll spend my time at least for the first several days after my son starts school in a couple of years. By then it will have been almost nine years since I'd had a day to myself and I feel like I deserve it already (we are almost up to seven years).

3. babyangie27 (1200) | 1 month ago | I do all my paid to do sites, and then if I have time between that and cleaning the house I play some games on Iwon and pogo. I have a ton of shows on my DVR I need to get to as well and I might watch an episode or two.

|
|
dorannmwin (1700) | 1 month ago | I too spend time during the day while my daughter is at school doing my paid to do sites. I only wish that I could find a few more of them. Right now I only have three sites that I am doing and yes, it is getting me a little bit of cash, but I'd love to find some more.

babyangie27 (1200) | 1 month ago | I am doing so many I probably couldn't count them on my hand LOL some I have already requested payouts at and many do pay and others are new sites.

4. Thoroughrob (7801) | 1 month ago | I do chores around the house, work on the computer, and about one day a week I do all my running around. I love being able to grocery shop without the kids.

msfrancisco9369 (1693) | 1 month ago | How is wish i can do the same. A domesticated mom and wife. I am a career woman and only during weekends and evenings after work that i have the chance to attend to my family's concerns. We're so grateful for having a trustworthy caregiver who assist me in doing the some of the chores and attending to my kids while I am at work and my husband too.

|
|
dorannmwin (1700) | 1 month ago | I too try to stick to doing all of my errands on one day. I dream of being able to go to the grocery store without children, but for right now I guess I'll settle with being able to go with just one child instead of both of them. Having your children under your feet while you are trying to grocery shop costs a lot of extra money.

dorannmwin (1700) | 1 month ago | I too just have two children, and they are about the same age difference between them as my two children are. I'm lucky that my oldest is in school and my son is relatively undemanding so I am able to get things done. I just wonder how lonely I will be when he starts school too.

6. msfrancisco9369 (1693) | 1 month ago | Hi Dorannmwin,
My eldest who is 13 years old is in the Special Education program and my youngest son is in grade 1-- his first year in the mainstream program. Both my sons were diagnosed with autism.
While their in school, i am at work. We have a caregiver to take them to school and pick them up. We just meet in the evening after work. We eat dinner together and do homework afterwards.

|
dorannmwin (1700) | 1 month ago | We always eat dinner together as a family as well. I grew up in a family that found it important to all eat together and therefore I am bringing up our family in the same way.

8. jugsjugs (2996) | 1 month ago | While my children are at school i tend to try to get some house work done as well as any phone call or letters that i have to write.I then have a look at my em\ails out as well as check on all the animals are ok.I also make cards as well to pass the time away. The only problem is that it seems that people always come round and stay for a long time and that gives me less time.

dorannmwin (1700) | 1 month ago | That's one thing that the daytime is really good for is to be able to get business done. The problem that I have with my business is that I really need to be able to make my phone calls in the evening when most normal people are home from work.

mommyboo (3277) | 1 month ago | I usually do housework and such on Monday since that's the first day after the weekend that my entire family is at work or school and I can get it done quickly, but this week... that's not what I did lol. Besides, there's only so much of that you can do after you get bored of it.

dorannmwin (1700) | 1 month ago | When my son starts school in a couple of years, the plan is for me to work part time while they are at school. Of course, I don't know because it is still a couple of years away and by that time I will have been out of the work force for nearly six years. I'm hoping that by then things will have picked up and the extra money that I'll be making will help us to pay off our house even soon before I am 40 years old.

10. mommyboo (3277) | 1 month ago | I am generally AT the school lol. My daughter is five and in kindergarten, and since the beginning of the year (which started in Aug), I have been volunteering for her teacher and other teachers, doing PTA things, tutoring in her class during excel, etc. I'm taking a class through the district in order to get certification so when an aide position opens up, I can apply for it.
I NEVER expected to spend so much time at the school but at the end of every week, I think about where I spent all my time and it WAS at the school. It's a big change from when my daughter was in preschool, because she only went to preschool twice a week. It started at NINE, so we didn't even have to get up till around 8. Even then, it was no big deal, so sometimes we got there at 9:20 and other times we just didn't go at all. Kindergarten starts at 7:20 at her school, so we try to get there at least by 7:10, 7:13 at the latest lol. I never stayed at the preschool because the teacher had a full time aide PLUS I'd known her for almost 2 years prior as a friend, so I never had reason to worry about my daughter having any problems in her class.
Anyway, I look forward to spending a lot of time at the school in the future too, whether as a volunteer or as an employee maybe . I'm so not career oriented. It's amazing that I enjoy this so much!

dorannmwin (1700) | 1 month ago | I spend time at the school too, although not as much this year as I did last year. Last year I was volunteering for Girl Scouts after school and everything that I could do in the classroom as well. This year, I am still the secretary of the PTA which takes time and I am planning to volunteer more in the classroom, but childcare situations have changed with my youngest and it isn't possible to be there as often as I was last year.
