It's a chilly, rainy day and I'm treating myself to some heat!

I usually keep the house at 66-67 in the winter because I don't like heating bills. But today, for some reason, I'm very chilly. It's raining outside and only 55 degrees Fahrenheit, the wind is blowing the beautiful leaves up and down the street and it's so dim that I have to turn on the lights inside. My two dogs are upstairs burrowed under the covers of my bed and I have on a long sleeved shirt and a sweater. And I'm still cold! Do you sometimes treat yourself by turning up the thermostat in cold weather? I just stood over one of the registers and it felt so good!

I think in time we all feel the chill in our bones. Especially this time of year when we are not used to the cold + the damp from the rain. I guess I'm getting old too or getting a rumatisim *LOL* I wish my hubby would treat me to him getting off his tushie to set up our heated blanket on our bed. He's the only one who knows where all the componets are. *sigh* Sadly enough he's the one who's always cold, must not be cold enough for him to set it up.

My hubby used to live in AZ & his sisters still do. He says it does get pretty cold there in the overnight hours. I kinda find it funny that they have heaters in such a warm place not just a/c. I do enjoy the electric blanket though, I prefer it to just warm the bed up I hate hopping into an ice cold bed. And since our room is the furthest away from the furnace it's also the coldest too & if you close off our room in winter there's aleast a teen to twenty degree differance... til you open the door anyways.

Strangely enough, my mom sent me an electric blanket when I was going through my divorce in Arizona, which can get rather cold in the winter. It now sits on her bed in one of the spare bedrooms! I haven't used it yet, I'm too cheap, but I might use it this winter if it pans out to what the local critters are signaling! Stay warm and snuggle cozy, my friend!!

It's starting to get chilly here and on occasion, I have those days when I just can't seem to get warmed up. I end up taking a hot shower and sometimes it helps regulate my temperature and I get warmed up. Sometimes I think it could be mind over matter, getting under a warm fuzzy blanket with a hot cup of coffee or hot cocoa gets me warmed back up. I don't have floor registers anymore, but in one place I lived, I did and would take a blanket, as soon as the heat would kick on I would throw the blanket over the vent and jump in under the blanket, not wanting to come back out for a long time! I love those big knitted socks that you can get that are like slippers but hate taking them off cause they won't fit in my shoes! I'm jealous when I go to my sister's house, she has a wood burner and it's soooo cozy there! I never want to leave, but I wouldn't want to have to go outside to get more wood or clean the burnt wood out of the burner, either. This is the time of year that I like baking, keeps the house warm and the tummies full!

I like to stand over the register! I remember as a child I would do that. Girls weren't allowed to wear pants to school so the heat would blow up under my dress and under the waistband, warming my whole body--that felt so good! I'm going to try capsicum this winter. It's an herb I learned about from Hornswaggle here on myLot, and gets things going in your body. Today it's 65, we've had a few very nice days lately so the heat is turned down again--but I'm still wearing a sweater and I'm still chilly!

I am from Minnesota and we had rain/freezing rain/rain mixed with snow/ice pellets today.....my furnace has been on for a couple of weeks. We had two and a half inches two weeks ago...going to be a long winter at this rate!

Strangely enough, the national weather service says we will have a dry winter--not from what I have seen! Squirrels have been busier than usual this fall and the hummingbirds left earlier than usual, too. I think this time they might be wrong. My furnace has been on for a couple of weeks, too, here in Ohio. It's been very cold for October, although we had some beautiful days this week in the high 60's and low 70's, summer's last hurrah.

Ha! I would love to sit by the fireplace and get warm rather than turn up the heat--it doesn't take much gas to run it--but it's an old model and most of the heat goes up the chimney. I hope to get a new, efficient model next year that will heat the living room and keep us toasty and cozy. Stay warm, P1key!

That's quite an atmosphere that you describe! It's not that cold here in London right now but the clocks go back an hour on Sunday night which means that winter has finally arrived. I don't like to use the heating either as it is so expensive but during the height of winter I may stick the heat on for an hour or two just to warm the place up and then I will resort to carrying a quilt around with me in the flat! This is very convenient and very warm too. I love the sound of the wind against the windows, this definitely sets the scene! Andrew

I, too, love to hear the wind! When I was young we used to live in a house that was built in a way that when the winter wind hit it, it would sound like a train's whistle! I haven't thought of that for years, so thank you for the lovely memory that your reply brought to mind. I would love to visit London. It looks like such a lovely city and the few people I've met from the UK are so very nice! I hope you keep warm this winter.

It has been pretty chilly here too. Today is supposed to be close to 60 degrees, but I don't think it is going ot get that warm. So, being that itr is chilly outdoors, I have the heat on and I am under a cover at my desk. I do turn up the thermostat in the colder weather simply because I cannot stand to be cold.

I never minded being chilly until recently. When I hit 50, my body got a little more susceptible to the cold and now I'm more sensitive to it. I'd still rather be too cold than too hot, though! I hope you stay warm this winter!

hi dragon54u oh yes it got so cold last night, oh my it was at least 60, and I sure loved burrowing under my covers. he he. today the sun is shining and the sky is an azure blue with a few marshmallow clouds. It is a chilly 65 out, and do I envy you with a real fall and winter. I am in Southern Ca. and it is nice weather finally not so hot, and you can actually wear a sweater out doors. we get cold if it gets down to 55 here, only in January and sometimes February we do have a few cold days in the 40ts or 50'ths, but mostly it is the same old same old here. Rain here is something we read about, we did have several days when it rained for about ten minutes but not enough to do any thing but dampen the very first layer of soil. we are so dried out that the fire danger is at its highest peak.Last night was the first night for ages when they did not turn on the air conditioner. they had it set too high so our room felt really cold at night. Last night I slept really well as our room was warmer not that artic like wind blowing out of the air vent.

I would die without the seasons! I spent 28 years in Arizona and it's so nice to get back here where the weather changes sometimes 2-3 times a day! I missed the clouds most of all, the desert had blue skies all the time with very few clouds. It's nice to have a cold bedroom and warm covers, isn't it? Such a cozy feeling! I'm almost tempted to get into bed with the dogs! I hope you get rain soon, I feel so bad for all those that have lost their houses to fires and hope you don't get landslides because the vegetation is gone.
