Bang! Bang! Bang! Oh My G. Who's shooting at us? |
|
It did sound like someone shooting a pistol, but when I got into the kitchen there was overdone eggs on the floor, and the ceiling and the pan was scorching and smelled horrid . I turned to my younger sister and said, I thought you said you would watch the hard boiled eggs while I did the gardening? She looked at me and said, But I did, you did not tell me when to take them off? Well as she was brain damaged I should never have left her to cook anything, but I had told her after ten minutes to turn off the burner and cool the eggs in ice water. but I think looking back at this from years now past I expected way too much of her. Any way I learned that overcooked eggs in a pan boiled dry will explode like gun shots going off. Did anybody else ever had a silly scary accident in the kitchen? I did learn not to tax my sister like that again.

Hatley (21910) | 3 months ago | hi hotsummer I think she was 21 as I was thirty and nine years older, but she really was only about a ten year old in mentality and I should not have trusted her to actually time the eggs and take them off the stove. oh they make a really frightening sound just like a hand gun going off.

hotsummer (2757) | 3 months ago | oh she was not that young any more. i guess she rarely cook that was why she didn't know what to do. but still by her age she should have known that.

12. Grandmaof2 (4375) | 3 months ago | I've never had anything like this happen but I'll never forget the story my uncle told. May God rest his soul, but this was funny. It was when the miorowave ovens were just out and my uncle was going to do the good thing and buy auntie one which he did. He was so proud of this microweave oven. He had no teeth and no one could tell a story like he could. He bought a good one and paid plenty for it. He loved boiled eggs like no one I have ever seen. He was told the microwaves cook fast, so he thought that was pretty good. He placed a dozen eggs in the microwave and turned it to twenty minutes. He discribed the popping and banging sounds till I was laughing so hard I had tears running down my face. The eggs all exploded and he said he cleaned for a couple hours while everyone else laughed. Too funny!!!

Hatley (21910) | 3 months ago | hi sreekala hi yes that would probably have been a better idea all around. Oh yes milk is really easy to let boil too long then you will scorch it and oh my how awful it tastes and smells too. I should have watched my own eggs well we all learn.

15. paula27661 (5569) | 3 months ago | I did a discussion about something similar a really long time ago and these are two cases that I mentioned.
I recall telling the story about the restaurant employee who decided to boil 3 dozen eggs and proceeded to forget and go home. Apparently the eggs eventually exploded in the pan and made a noise that several patrons thought was gunfire!
The other one was about a bachelor friend of mine who figured his mum taught him well and thought he would put a roast on for his dinner. He seasoned the meat placed it in the oven and went to the bathroom to take a shower. While upstairs the phone rang, it was some of his pals inviting him out for a drink. He obliged. When he returned the passage light was dim in the distance through the smoke; he forgot the roast in the oven when he went out! Now it was nothing but one inch piece of charcoal, lots of crackling there! Lucky his house was still in one piece!

Hatley (21910) | 3 months ago | hi paula oh how funny the poor guy completely forgot. I bet some of the patrons got a bit scared as the t hings blew up. I did something opposite the last time I fixed a roast. I had it all gussied up with herbs and garlic and all. So I go into my bedroom and decide to mylot while the roast is cooking. After an hour or so I did not smell the good smell of roasting meat so went to check. oh my G. duh!! I had not turned on the oven,.so my dinner was really late that night. seems like with me mylotting and cooking do not do well together.

Hatley (21910) | 3 months ago | hi thea you know I was in the midst of last quarter exams when I went back to the U at age 56. I was on the bus and kept thinking I forgot something but couldn't think what it could be. But when I got to the U, I phoned my home and my son answered finally.I asked him to check the stove, and he looked into the kitchen. he said,oh my gosh you forgot your teakettle. its boiling away like cr azy. good think you called. It is not yet dry." I thanked him and went to my latin final, and darn, I really flunked it. everything else I had nailed perfectly so my gpa was still 3.5 or something like that. I guess that was just not my morning. on the way to the U our bus stopped and we all had to get off. someone had called in a bomb threat. so they put us on another bus while these guys in black suits went through the bus very thoroughly. it was just a hoax but they did not know that til later. so I w as late in the first place to take the test so really loused it up badly.

17. Thoroughrob (7982) | 3 months ago | I have never heard of eggs doing that. They really must have gotten hot. I did not have a scary accident in the kitchen, but one time when we were camping. The kids had went out and picked up buckeyes. They had messed with them for weeks and then just quit. We had a fire going one day and we were cleaning. I told my son to do something with them. He threw them in the fire. All of a sudden, I am in the camper cleaning, and I heard what sounded like gunshots. It was all the buckeyes exploding. It sounded like a machine gun. I never knew they would do that, and did not know at the time, that he had even thrown them in the fire.

Hatley (21910) | 3 months ago | hi thoroughrob oh my I bet that was surprising I had read or was told that buckeyes would do that. I never tried it but now I know they really do. eggs also just plain exploded when the water runs dry in the pan. and they sound just like a hand gun going off.

20. neelianoscet (2156) | 3 months ago | I have experienced blowing my kettle with lots of water and with soup overflowing. Then, those eggs should really boil for at least 5 minutes and that is why it explodes as your sister have left her for longer minutes. That is the usual to heard those crackling sounds as the egg shells break into two and hit the cover of the pan or in your case she left it with no cover that is why they all splattered on the floor. Well, for me i have experience blowing pop corn that I make sure that I hold the pan with a cover before shaking it as if the cover is slightly open all the popcorn too would be scatter on the floor, with a lot of hissing sounds.

|
Hatley (21910) | 3 months ago | hi neelianoscet yes my sister was supposed to take them out in ten minutes but all she did was stand in the kitchen and watch them, then she walked out as I came in and the eggs were exploding all over the place. oh yes you have to be so careful when poping corn like that else it will go all over too and make that odd hissing sound,You must keep the lid down tightly.
