Do you still have adult children living at home? |
|
I think there is a national trend that children are not leaving the nest. I have two adult children, they have never been married but are both over 18. They still live at home. They both have full time jobs and attend college but really cannot afford places of their own. Are other mylotters finding their kids facing the same difficulties?

1. notlistening2 (10844) | 1 month ago | Well my son use to live with me, when I lost my apartment, my son and I moved in with my sister, and when my son and my sister, couldn't get along any more, he move out and moved in with his cousin, which I am very glad about because, my son would ask me for money everyday, and I couldn't save up any money, with him being around, I am glad me moved out, and now I am able to save up my money, he gets a check every month.

2. deebomb (9001) | 1 month ago | I and two of my adult grandchildren share a house together. I helped raise them One just turned 23 and the other one will be 21 next month. We could not make it by ourselves. My granddaughter works full time and the grandson has two part time jobs. We share all the expenses of the house. They are both wanting to get out on their own now but it will take time for them to get enough funds together to do this and it has been hard for them to save. I love living with them but I also know they are ready to leave the nest.

deebomb (9001) | 1 month ago | It is almost impossible right now for kids to get out on their own with having to have first and last months rent as well as deposits for light and water and maybe gas. Then they have to have car insurance and telephones or cell phones. It all really adds up.

| 3. Clicker625 (74) | 1 month ago | My adult children have never lived with me. They are married and have families of their own. They are all much better off than I am financially. Times are so tough financially now that it must be even more difficult for kids in college or just getting started in their careers after college. I could see that more adult children would have to stay home longer before being able to make it on their own.

6. spalladino (9027) | 1 month ago | My oldest daughter, son-in-law and grandson lived with me for a couple of years when I was still in Maryland. Rent has been extremely expensive where we were living for many years and one of the reasons they moved down here to Florida was because the rental we own nextdoor was vacant. Now they have 3 children and are planning to buy a house next year. My youngest, who is almost 19, is living with her boyfriend in his parents' home. She's been unable to find a job in our small town and plans to attend college locally this spring.

7. EdTv00 (241) | 1 month ago | I think it depends where you live. In my city a one bedroom apt cost you about 1200 monthly, and that's if you can get a good deal. Now add other monthly expenses like cable, phone, food, supplys for school, internet, ect ect. Thats a sh*t load of money for one person to pay with a regular 9 to 5 job. But I do it, and many other people do it, so its possible and its the only way a person can learn to take care of themselves without having to depend on anyone else.
