Have you ever wasted food? |
|
I have taken my family to dinner last weekend to this Kenny Rogers Roasters diner. When the customers from the other table left I noticed that there were two orders of untouched rice. They just left it there at the table to be thrown away by the waiter when he cleans the table.
Honestly this pains me even if I did not order the excess food. I hate wasting food most especially when I know that a lot of people is going hungry nowadays. I often ask the waiter to put my excess food in bag so I can take it home with me. If couldn't eat it anymore I would have my pet dog and cat eat it so nothing is wasted.

31. ladygator (1130) | 1 month ago | I couldn't agree more with you. I do have to say shamefully however, yes we do waste sometimes. My children can be very picky eaters at times. All along telling me how hungry they are only to nibble on the food I place before them. I try very hard thow to use up everything I make even in different meals the next day. When we go out however, it is usually a special occasion. So we bag up the left overs and save it for the next meal. I am glad to see some that are not so willing to waste.

earth2jacq (906) | 4 weeks ago | Children are picky eaters. We cannot always expect them to like what we give them. I think that is just normal to them. What matters is that you tell them that wasting food is not a very good thing to do. When they are mature they will understand more. Thanks for posting.

32. mysticmaggie (283) | 1 month ago | I, too, hate wasting food, however, when my husband was young, his mother and grandmother would load his plate to overflowing and urge him to be a member of the Clean Plate Club. Today, he is 5' 4" tall, weighs in at a new low of 273 and is losing weight only because he is disabled and cannot load his plate the way he was taught.
I prepare good, healthy meals and serve him one reasonable sized serving keeping his calorie count at about 1800 for the day.
Due to his initial habits, he has diabetes, clogged arteries that required five bypasses, a wrecked lymph system because when he got a heart cath, he also got a massive infection in his leg that required extensive surgery. That came from his diabetes.
So, yes, if everyone is sensible in their eating habits fine, but unfortunately the Clean Plate Club still reigns in some homes.

33. strawberrybaby39 (611) | 1 month ago | I don't like wasted food either never have. I felt the same way you did. To many people in this world are starving to wast food. I normally eat once a day and what I can't finish I save for later to eat or I give it to my dogs. When I go out to eat what I can't finish I have it boxed up and taken home to for later.

34. rg0205 (1714) | 1 month ago | I think many of us here have been guilty of wasting food. I'm sure I have. I don't eat very much so sometimes I do waste food. Well, I don't know if I'd call it "waste" because if the food is suitable for my pets, I would give them some. Otherwise, they go in the fridge and someone else eats it.
| |
| |
|
|
earth2jacq (906) | 4 weeks ago | I am also guilty of wasting food when I was younger. I wouldn't really call it a waste if someone else eats it even if it is the pet that does. What matters is that we don't throw perfectly edible foods in the garbage. Thanks for posting.

35. Ruthep (5928) | 1 month ago | I almost always bring my extra food home with me. I keep leftovers. I scrap every last bit out of the pan or bowl. I was taught not to waste. I have seen people throw away enormous amounts of food, even in their own home and I really think it is terrible. Ever since I was a kid and we'd go to my grandma's for dinners and other people would take so much food and than not eat it. Why take so much if it is not going to be eaten. Course back than they had pigs, so the pigs got it. But still. I was always talk never take more than you know you can eat. You can always come back for seconds. And eating out. They give so much food. Of course bring the rest home. Sometimes you can get another one or two full meals out of it. People are just wasteful.

earth2jacq (906) | 4 weeks ago | Yes that is something that I don't understand. There is enough food for everyone for second servings. But since these people get more than they can eat then what happens is that there is lesser food for everyone. I really wish people would change their habit of wasting. Thanks for posting.

| 36. funkeyguhl (36) | 1 month ago | I also do not like wasting food. I know the situation of other people who are not fortunate enough to have the food that they want on their table.
They just 'make-do' with what they have. Not only that, they have to make sure that the food will be enough for a family of eight or at times, more than that.
As for me, I try to finish my food and am also very conscious about the amount of food I eat... If I know I will not be able to finish it, I asked for it to be wrapped and eaten the next day.
| |
| |
|
|
earth2jacq (906) | 4 weeks ago | I do eat my leftovers. Anyway I bought it because I wanted it. I know what you are talking about. Here in my country that situation is very common in the slums where a family of eight would share food that is just good for two people. Thanks for posting.
| |
|
|
| funkeyguhl (36) | 4 weeks ago | That is true! You bought it because you want it... so there is no harm to have it at least for another day.
Though there are times wherein you just want to be adventurous and later on did not like the food, instead of throwing it away, you can give it to other people right? or you can re-do the dish!=)

37. jdyrj777 (2281) | 1 month ago | Yes, i agree with you about wasteing food. Its just not right. I wonder why those people didnt tell them not to give the rice or at least take it with them. I do the same as you. I take home what i cant eat there. I really hate holloween time when people carve the pumpkins. Most those pumpkins get wasted by the people not doing anything with the pumpkin afterwards. My sister and her kids used to do the pumpkin thng at holloween time but she would bring it in afterwards and make pumpkin pies and everything. In my city here they had a 1,000 lb. pumpkin and lifted it up so many stories. Then dropped it. I saw that and just thought what a waste. Do you realize how much food could have been made just from that one huge pumpkin? A regular size one makes a lot as it is.

| |
|
|
earth2jacq (906) | 4 weeks ago | Yes sometimes traditions are hard to break. It is good that from this discussion I can see many people that is sensitive and not want to waste food. Regarding the pumpkins, yes such a waste. I like pumpkin soup I could eat that for a day. Thanks for posting.

| 38. adaylatefriend (16) | 1 month ago | I do, also, find it painfully ignorant when people don't eat what they put on their plate. It's highly disrespectful socially and economically. I've seen people who starve for days at a time working weeks and weeks just to be able to provide a little sustenance for their family. It is heartbreaking.

earth2jacq (906) | 4 weeks ago | Yeah I do that as well. I specifically ask for something that I don't like to be removed I am ok with paying the same price since I wouldn't eat it anyway why waste it. Thanks for posting.
