Can we really stop plagiarism on internet? |
|
Can we really do anything about plagiarism on internet? Suppose, you find out that your writings have been copied and pasted in other websites without giving credits to you. You are furious, upset, want to do sue the person BUT miserably helpless.
Can we really do anything to stop plagiarism on internet? Is there any legal online procedure? Does it really work?

The internet is such a huge place it's hard to keep tabs on what everyone else is doing. If you have the proof that you are the original owner of an article and you have the money, you can try.
Otherwise, as a writer, you should know that once you publish something you should have them copyrighted otherwise people can just freely take your stuff without consequence. Copyright it, own it.

| 13. DeliasDowntime (18) | 2 months ago | I doubt it will ever end entirely. It's too hard to track your material on every site. Maybe if watchdog groups got on it. All an individual can do right now is once in a while do a spot-check, paste one of your paragraphs into Google, see if anything comes up. But there's just so much material on the internet I don't know how it can be stopped entirely.
About the legal thing, you probably can but I think it would be hard to pursue. At least you can turn it in to the person's webhost, ISP, etc.

14. Fulltank (1299) | 2 months ago | Just like viruses, plagiarism cannot be totally stopped. Even long before internet was develop, plagiarism already exist. That is why the copyright and patent laws are come to be. This laws are like anti-virus software which aims to stopped this bad habit but still they exists.

15. jdyrj777 (2329) | 2 months ago | That happens right here in this site. I have seen exact same post copied and pasted. Different names. I have also seen people being shape shifters. Leave as one person and come back as another. It would be really hard to catch these people. I would think that at least here they can trace a copy and paste back to the original.

mimpi1911 (8139) | 2 months ago | Yes and we have successfully got rid of some here! It's difficult to find out if he/she is the same one when he/she comes up with a new user name but still the message gets across clearly.
One user per IP address could solve it to some extent but then today we are dealing with numbers as in popularity score.

mimpi1911 (8139) | 2 months ago | Yes I am but the very idea of watermark is carrying the logo of the company and adverting for it. It's a two way process. Isn't it? istockphoto and many others allow you to use their stuffs and in return we have to endorse their brand.
Thanks.

17. rjvb26 (553) | 2 months ago | Well that is the consequences of posting an article on the internet. But... there are some sites that are protecting the work of their uploaders/writers. Maybe we should just choose the site. But. again this protection is also very easy to break specially for hackers.. So i think it is really impossible. Or the best thing maybe is that, post your articles to lots of sites so that it will be famous and the people will know that it really came from you, so that if someone copy it, it's a big mess for him/her because people will think that, He/She doesn't have a brain to write his/her own article!!! O well that's internet and that is life, even in the real world it is happening not only in the internet.. Tsk tsk tsk.. i am very sad T_T

18. yuna15 (1127) | 2 months ago | Stopping plagiarism over the internet is extremely complicated. Especially if the parties involved are from different countries. If you are for example somebody powerful and well-known who can reach out to the concerned people who can address this then it may be possible.

19. lindiebiz (792) | 2 months ago | I think it is really difficult pursuing legal action on the internet. Remember that the internet is global and you can only sue somebody in his own place of residence. If you were in the US and someone in Africa plagiarizad your work would you travel just to sue. It sounds stupid when it does not involve money. I think the best would he for a body to be formed to handle such issues. Maybe the body would have reresentatives in every country where you can report to if you are a victim. What if you don't know where the person is from, I believe the body should have a way of tracking Id or domain and hosting details. Just a thought

|
mimpi1911 (8139) | 2 months ago | That's a great idea! Forming a body with representatives in all parts of the world is a good idea. Strict internal policies of the websites can improve this and also I also feel an online grievance cell would be just fine. What do you feel?
