Foods that go together.. or not.. |
|
Ever since I was a kid, I could remember that there were a lot of food served that had to come in pairs: ham and eggs for example. Also, some sauces or syrups are incorporated or drizzled onto food such as hotcakes or waffles with maple syrup. Bread and jam, and many more.
Yesterday, during breakfast, we had sunny side up eggs. I love eggs, as long as they are plain. When my sister brought out the ketchup, and mixed it with the egg, I almost vomited. Weird, I know, as many people like mixing eggs with ketchup. But I just couldn't stand it. I'm a nurse and I've seen pretty more gruesome things that I could stand, but I just couldn't stomach the thought of mixing eggs and ketchup. My sister began laughing at me when I told her I didn't like mixing eggs and ketchup, so I had to eat on the counter instead.
So, for you people out there, do you have any experiences similar to what I had? Do share!

StarBright (1186) | 2 months ago | Levite: NEVER Ketchup. It is like having cooked tomato soup with no seasoning. Everyone in my family loves it but me. Often, when you are pregnant, you crave weird stuff. Like out-of-season fruits, pickles and ice cream, even dirt (the red clay). Husbands are sent out in the middle of the night to find strange foods that are really hard to get. I guess it's really not a joke, but it is laughable for the poor husband stuck with trying to find this stuff. LOL

StarBright (1186) | 2 months ago | High Laglen, Orange juice does seem extreme with chocolate cake or any other sweet for that matter unless you want to mainline sugar. However, I once used a recipe where a bit of orange zest was included in the frosting and it was delicious.

StarBright (1186) | 2 months ago | Brown_fox! I'm curious. How do you eat your pancakes? Apart from fruit and a few nuts along with whipped cream, I can't imagine anything else that would go with pancakes if not syrup.

6. ybong007 (1064) | 2 months ago | It really depends on what you're used to. An example is "puto with itlog na maalat" another example is a friend of mine whose meal is not complete without catsup, can you imagine "sinigang" (I don't know how they call it in english) with catsup? "dinuguan with catsup"? you name all dishes in the world and he'll put catsup in it LOL.
Apologies to all fellow mylotters if the dishes mentioned is in our dialect. For those of you who know the translations, please feel free to post. Cheers!

levite (477) | 2 months ago | I think sour food like vinegar, raw mango (manggang hilaw) combined with sweet foods like watermelon plus orange juice or buco juice would make your stomach really ache. But I know people who have no trouble eating sour and sweet foods together. It really depends on the person's digestive system.

StarBright (1186) | 2 months ago | Levite, that is why they make a lot of jokes about pregnant women craving pickles and ice cream.

7. lealuvy2j (335) | 2 months ago | Whenever I eat at Mcdonalds, I drizzle Maple Syrup over the Sausage Patty I ordered. I love the taste of it and whenever I do this and I am eating with someone, the person I am eating with is usually surprised. They usually that think I accidentally spilled the syrup over my food. I also drizzle coffee over rice because it is a common practice here in my hometown Batangas. Try drizzling coffee over steamed rice and eat tocino as viand for breakfast. It is really delicious. Well, it is delicious for me anyway. lol.

9. rg0205 (1710) | 2 months ago | My brother is a ketchup maniac. Sometimes when we go to fastfood restaurants with my Mom to grab a quick burger, she gets embarrassed because he uses too much ketchup. There's like a pile of ketchup sachets on our table everytime we're with my brother. I don't like ketchup on eggs. It's weird. Yes, it's pretty gross, too. I don't like it either. What's even worse is that banana ketchup. Ugh. Gross.

rg0205 (1710) | 2 months ago | Well, yes, you can say that I'm like you...but mixing gravy with ketchup? Not done that before and I don't think I'd like to LOL. BUT I have tried ketchup and mayo once. My ex was a fanatic of the mix so he "forced" me to. It wasn't that bad.

My brother-in-law likes cheese on his coconut jam sandwiches too, and even warms it in the microwave!
