Foods that go together.. or not..

Rainegurl, just when you think you've heard it all.....ketchup on Pizza??? Now there's a man that loves ketchup!!

I like ketchup too, honestly. But I think it really doesn't go well with eggs, most especially sunny side-ups! I shudder at the thought.

Hahaha.. My brother and I had a competition once: who could take a tablespoon full of ketchup (TOMATO!!) in just one gulp. We both won, and the whole bottle of ketchup was finished. Hahahaha

I like putting ketchup on pizzas too! But I'm trying to wean myself from doing that, for the very same reason you said about the pizza losing it's taste. I'm satisfied with hot sauce on pizza now

Yes We couldn't stop eating ketchup that time. And our mom got shocked and got angry at us for finishing the bottle. That was the last bottle at home, and she needed to cook something that day that involved ketchup! hahahaha..

Hi aixsha again. You're from the Philippines right? I know you're using Del Monte ketchup. That ketchup really tastes good, both original and sweet blend .

I totally get you. I don't get how people eat crackers/bread soaked in coffee as well.

Contrary to what I said earlier, I like ketchup. But I just can't stand ketchup mixed with eggs! It*shudder**cringe* disgusts me!

As for dunking rolls in coffee, it has been some sort of a tradition here in our country . I remember my grandfather used to do that and so do my parents! Hahaha

Levite: NEVER Ketchup. It is like having cooked tomato soup with no seasoning. Everyone in my family loves it but me. Often, when you are pregnant, you crave weird stuff. Like out-of-season fruits, pickles and ice cream, even dirt (the red clay). Husbands are sent out in the middle of the night to find strange foods that are really hard to get. I guess it's really not a joke, but it is laughable for the poor husband stuck with trying to find this stuff. LOL

I'm not a woman, lol. I can't be pregnant . In our country, when a woman becomes pregnant, she asks her husband to buy her unripe mango or any other rare food that she suddenly craves even in the middle of the night too, like what you said. So, the custom is also the same for woman in different countries.

Eating of inedible materials is better known as PICA. Weird things happen to women's bodies when they are pregnant, plus the hormones fluctuate a lot!

As for husbands looking for rare food in the wee hours of the night, that's really true. My dad used to tell me my mom craved for honeydew when she was pregnant with me. To think that we live in the Philippines, that was impossible. Hahahaha

My mom on the other hand craved for hotdogs when she was pregnant with me, thats' why I really love hotdogs up to now.

Hot dogs and honeydew melons, too funny. How about beets. My Mom said she craved beets. Back then, they did not have pickled beets in a jar, so you could not just go to the store and get them.

I, on the other hand, craved a really sweet orange. We bought oranges at every store in town and nearby towns as well. None of them were sweet enough. I don't know if my taste buds were off track or if it was just a bad season for oranges. I did not want orange juice, just a fresh sweet orange. I did not satisfy that taste until my daughter was about two years old. I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I finally bit into an orange that was so sweet and delicious it almost made me cry. Go figure.

Too sweet for my palate, I think! Hahahhaa . Even if I have a sweet tooth, I think that's too much sugar already! I only like water with my chocolate cake .

High Laglen, Orange juice does seem extreme with chocolate cake or any other sweet for that matter unless you want to mainline sugar. However, I once used a recipe where a bit of orange zest was included in the frosting and it was delicious.

Brown_fox! I'm curious. How do you eat your pancakes? Apart from fruit and a few nuts along with whipped cream, I can't imagine anything else that would go with pancakes if not syrup.

Hmmm, I think I can stomach Beef Stew with Vinegar! Hahahaha.. But NO to ketchup on eggs! Hahahahha

I do agree that it really depends on what you're used to eating. And by all means, I don't like ketchup with my eggs. Hahahahaha

I thought he was nuts too, but as days go by, he seems to be less interested in our comments than do away with his catsup.

I have other weird habits too, such as mixing gravy and ketchup when eating french fries. But your friend is by all means, weird! (Sorry to say that!)

I think sour food like vinegar, raw mango (manggang hilaw) combined with sweet foods like watermelon plus orange juice or buco juice would make your stomach really ache. But I know people who have no trouble eating sour and sweet foods together. It really depends on the person's digestive system.

Levite, that is why they make a lot of jokes about pregnant women craving pickles and ice cream.

If that sinigang is homemade , your friend should be beaten with a stick for ruining good food.

For those unfamiliar with Filipino cooking, sinigang is a wonderful soup using tamarind as a primary flavor. Delicious!!

Sinigang is purely a homemade food, and I do agree that ketchup (OF ALL THE THINGS) would totally, absolutely, undoubtedly ruin it! Hahahah

I also like putting maple syrup on my sausage patty! I've done it quite a few times, because I tend to forget when I'm really hungry. I've heard about the coffee and rice combination as my dad hails from Luzon. Tocino! Now, that's something I have been missing for a while!

Whoa. I haven't heard of taho and ice cream yet! I love both, but haven't tried to eat them together. Too bad for you though. I think they didn't go well with your digestive system, I guess.

Not now, aixsha. That was then. My stomach now is much adaptable to the food combination I eat. But I seldom eat them together now.

I think I can attest to having too many ketchup sachets in fastfood restaurants, as my friends and I are ketchup fiends, especially when we eat french fries . The only thing I can't stand is ketchup on eggs!!! AND NO TO BANANA KETCHUP!!!!
By the way, we even mix gravy with ketchup. Some weird habit of ours. You should try it! Hahahaha

Well, yes, you can say that I'm like you...but mixing gravy with ketchup? Not done that before and I don't think I'd like to LOL. BUT I have tried ketchup and mayo once. My ex was a fanatic of the mix so he "forced" me to. It wasn't that bad.

Aisxaonline, even tho ketchup with anything is a stomach churner for me, you made me remember that as a kid, my Mom made a tomato gravy that we put on rice and such. However, she used tomato puree from a can. It was red, tho. The puree is like ketchup with the water squeezed out . Her gravy was delicious. I can't make it, tho.

I love ketchup but not to the point that I soak the food with it! Ketchup soup or something. hahahahha!


My brother-in-law likes cheese on his coconut jam sandwiches too, and even warms it in the microwave!
