Yes it is true and now I have your attention I'll explain why! It was the police but mostly a police car! I was working out of my apertment and was shocked to find a police car and another car was blocking the parking area by the building I live in! My car was parked in that area and there was no where out! I hafd no idean why the police was there and where they went! I wasn't going to go looking for the police just because I needed to get to work! So I went back up to my apartment and went on line! After 45 minutes the cars where gone and I was off! I was 45 minutes late and was bugged with questions from everyone on what happen when I made it to work! I told that story over and over and over again! I sure have some weird things happen to me!

I have never been late to work due to the police, but I was late due to a very bad accident that had traffic backed up on both sides of the interstate, which has three lanes on each side. I was already stuck in traffic when they announced on the radio that there was a major accident that had closed that section of the interstate, and people were advised to take an alternate route. I lived a considerable distance from my work, so I always left the house early to make sure to be on time. I tried calling to let my work know what was happening, but I could not get ahold of anybody. I was almost two hours late, and I walked in with several other co-workers. Apparently a lot of people had taken that route to work, and we all were caught in the backup before they decided to close the road. Fortunately, some of the people in the agency lived near where we worked, so the place was not a total ghost town, and most had heard the news and figured that was why so many people had not shown up for work.

Yes, I worked at a place once that was just awful, and I had to have a doctor's note every time that I was sick! That was just ridiculous. I started going to work sick, which they did not appreciate, and then they decided that if I took a day off because I was sick, then I did not have to come to work the next day with a doctor's note, especially if they could tell that I was sick. I could understand if I took a lot of time off or had to be out several days, but most of the time I was only out a day. After having that experience at the old job, I was really nervous about what was going to happen when I showed up late at the new job, even though I had been there for several months when it happened. It really was a very pleasant surprise when they were very understanding about what had happened.
There are things in life that are out of our control. It is really nice when our jobs understand this and are nice about it. I think that if the bosses put themselves into the same situation, then they are more inclined to be nice about things that we cannot control. I am glad that you work for such a good place.

Hi bluepacker, why on earth didn't you just go and ask them to move their vechicle so you could get your own car out and get to work on time. Generally the police will park wherever they like as they don't get parking tickets but are very obliging about moving them. It is always important to be at work on time otherwise you are letting people down.

I didn't know where the cop was and I wasn't about to go knocking on doors looking for the cop! I never found out wjy they were in the first place! I called my boss and explain the situation and he understood. I wasn't in trouble getting to work late!

Interesting that they would be blocking your area so you could not get out, without notifying you, or having someone around to be able to give you some better suggestions what you should do from there. I hope you did not get in trouble for being late, and did you ever find out why the cops were really there in your area?

That sounds about like something that would happen to me also. I hate having to explain things like that over and over again too. That is the part that really gets on your nerves.

I've had that happened before.... but I called my boss when I knew I was going to be late because there were cars blocking me.. whether it was a police car or not. I'm sure they understood - but it is frustrating. lol
