Years ago, my Doctor told me to put dry rice in a sock and put it in the microwave for one minute. Well he must have bigger feet than me. 45 seconds was hot enough for me. Rice will only cook if you put water in it. Without water, it just dries out even more if that's possible. Since you're not putting water in it, not a problem. Trust me, I had rice in a sock until the sock started to unravel and I started loosing rice. About once every few months, I had to get another sock for it. You're just heating rice so it will be dry heat for longer. Put the rice after it's heated in one spot on your arthritic body. Works way longer than a hot wash cloth, that cools off in a heartbeat. Probably not as long as a hot water bottle, but more comfortable to me.
If you search Christmas crafts, you can find some terrific step-by-step directions for doing things. I wasn't crafty either. But little-by-little, I've been learning things. There are some great craft videos that demonstrate things on youtube. Also some craft and cooking sites have some videos of their own. I learned to circle knit from a video.

I'm not making much this year. Not enough time and not enough ambition, either. I want to knit some amigurumi type animals to decorate packages and I need to put another few inches on my blanket I made last year. BUT... the decorations aren't out yet, so who knows what will happen when the Christmas spirit hits? :)

I have a fabric coverlet that is reversible with lace around it I need to finish for granddaughter # 2, plus a crocheted blanket for her, that needs some inches, as you say. I am not familiar with amigurumi animals so I will have to search on that subject. I think I may go finish some mending of an old gift that I am redoing for my son.

They're cute, the little animals. Like your new avatar Garden Gerty.
I want to make a rug using a sunrise or sunset someday.

Those little animals are sooo cool. I like small projects. Another few inches on a blanket, that's a large project. Good luck and I hope the Christmas Spirit hits you wonderfully this year. Take care

That sounds like an excellent idea for gifts. I am knitting all of my grandchildren mittens and a matching scarf. If there is time I plan on making some pillows with their names embroidered on them.

That sounds very darling. I hope you have time to make all that. I bet they will love their mittens, scarf and pillows from Grandma. I haven't embroidered in years, maybe someday again. Thanks and take care.

Oh my, the way this posted it said you were crafting arthritis pain. I have mader the warmers, and I love having them. I am not getting a lot of anything done except work. After the first of the year, something has got to change.

Yes, I can see how that looks, the more I craft, the more my wrists pain. Actually if you read to the period it's arthritis pain warmers. I guess rice pillows for arthritis pain would be better. I tend to shorten things to help my hands out.
I hear you, I've had a couple of jobs where the first year was non-stop and then I had to put the breaks on or at least take some time off the next year. Good luck. At least we both manage to stay employed.

I usually send a favorite childhood poem to some friends I have met online that I think might enjoy it. I don't think I will feel much like it this year. Too under the weather but you never know I may find the energy to do afew. I love those arthritis pain warmers. I have seen many different types and sizes.

Yeah, the woman I work for makes neck warmers that are like minature draft stops, but some of the colors are amazing.
That poem sounds really wonderful.
I'm sorry you're under the weather. I hope you feel better and full of energy soon.

Those rice warmers are the best, I suffer from joint pain, plus some other problems. I love the rice warmers. I wish they last longer though.
I am making jewelry plus 2 pair of slippers. I crocheted a couple hats awhile back. I vow not to be last minute this Year. My crafting is going to be finish no later than the 15th.

Good for you! Hope they're all done by the 15th.
If you buy a brand new sock and put rice in it, it lasts pretty long if you buy really good cottom socks, about 6 months at a time for me.

Once again, notifications ......very late! And this discussion is 3 days late, about the time that we had the glitch in the stars, I had notification difficulties,...so sincerest apologies!
This year I am sticking to two...knitting Buffalo Wool slippers for all, they are supposed to be slippers, but the recipients always wear them out by wearing inside their boots in cold weather! And I do lots and lots of "pergamano" from lamp shades to flowers to cards. Cards I make all of the time, for all occasions, so always have many on hand. My problem has been finding a supplier, for the special paints, inks, paper. Finally found one in Eastern Canada, but before that had to order from Holland...so would get excited about a project, by the time the supplies arrived, the enthusiasm was not there! Pergamano is an on-going hobby. Cheers!

Yes, the glitches on this site lately have been frustrating.
No need to apologize. I love input whether that day or days later. I've gotten some great responses months later. Never worry about that.
Those Buffalo slippers sound just like what people need up here.
Glad you found a supplier for what you need. Holland would be very frustating.

I am painting ceramic ornaments and ceramic houses to give away as gifts. I am also making home made gift baskets consisting of candy, fudge, cookies and bread. I feel that homemade gifts are more personable and people appreciate it. I love making crafts and I am looking into trying to sell online. I am afraid I may not be able to sell my food items because I might need a food license. I am not sure who to talk to first.

Painting on ceramics, I bet that looks cool. I don't have a steady hand so I envy people who do. Sounds awesome. I love making food baskets, too. Esp. with goodies, but we're trying to loose weight in my family.

It may take me a couple of days, but I will look for some sugar free recipes. My husband is diabetic and needs to watch his sugars. I have been cooking a lot with Splenda (a sugar substitute) and have realized that there is no difference in taste. I do not miss having sugar.
Painting is a skill and it took me a while to get the hang of it.
