for those who have somehow managed not to hear of him billy connelly is a scottish comedian who can at times be very funny. perhaps more so when he started out but he still has his moments. now for reasons best known to himself a few years ago he dyed his moustache and beard pink, now why do you think he did this? to look pretty, to be ironic, because he was bored, why? if you a facially furred man would you ever dye it? why and if not why on earth not? everybody else how would you react if someone of your acquaintance did this?

You already know my views on this one jb, face fuzz must go, it's bad enough when men start dyeing their hair but now you're encouraging them to dye it too. And leave their chest hair out of your dyeing room.

I can't imagine where you would come up with a post such as this?

OK so I live in a cave. Haven't hard of him. My reaction would be to point out that purple is so much more attractive. :-)

I'm going to have to watch it from home. If I turn it up loud enough that I can actually understand the accent, people are work are going to be looking at me funny! Thanks for the link...

more grown-up than pink definitely. here is the man - pretty silly clip from early 80s but there are about half a million others on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmpRQLaxF60

jb you old blue bunny you good morning He probably did that to get some extra laughs as it would look a tad silly I would think. At dinner last night this mild- natured, sort of sweet- natured man came into dinner wearing of all things a kids pink bonnet that tied under the chin, we all went off in gales of laughter, then he took a bow and we just howled as he looked so funny. I would have laughed myself sick if my husband had dyed his beard and goatee that is for sure.[em]lol[/em

hiya hatley - yes there is a distinct possibilty that if a man dyed his facial hair odd colours he wouldn't be taken all that seriously.

I think he probably did it for the same reason that I put colours in my hair... because he can!! I would be well impressed if a friend/relative of mine did that. My dad had a beard which he sprayed silver a few times and my mum let my son spray her white hair blue one Christmas. It you're gonna dye hair, why dye it a natural hair colour?

Hello Jb. :D I have no moustache or beard, but I might consider spraying my hair pink. Why? Perhaps because I like the Pink Panther or pink in general. Maybe it would be a cry for attention or a form of rebellion. Or... Maybe I just love variety! Karen

i think that would be sort of cool. my auntie did that (for a short time) after the children left home, definitely a delayed rebeliion...

Hello, Judith. I'm a great Billy Connelly fan, but I don't like the beard and the hair, and it's even worse when it's dyed a funny colour like pink. I suppose it was one of his outrageous moments. In my opinion, beards are best left on mussels - they don't do anything for humans, apart from make them look much older than they are.

Why would he do it? To get attention. Any attention is better than no attention. How would I react? Well, it depends on the reason. Over here, people die their hair all sorts of colours to raise funds for the leukemia foundation, but I doubt if that was Billy Connelly's reason. My man doesn't have facial hair so it isn't something I need to worry about, but I am conservative (old fashioned if you like) so I would not like it if he coloured his hair. I'm sure Sean Connery wouldn't colour his hair!

well he is a comedian and has always been rebellious so it wasn't really very surprising that he did this. i cannot however picture sean connery with pink foliage (or hair) - not really his image is it. btw loved that photo you put up earlier

"The Big Yin" Has always had this rebellious streak for Fashion and Facial Topiary throughout his career..Going back to his "Big Banana Feet" boots in the '70's,His Onstage suits and costumes,Tales of him Swapping trousers with somebody in the street as He liked the look of the Garment,Earrings,Tats..You Name it..Changing his 'tache colour was just another way for him to grow older disgracefully!

disgracefully is absolutely the best way to grow older. i've got some cunning plans of my own lined up. i would rather become the village bat than the office biddy...

Because he's Billy Connolly, what more reason does the man need? As far as someone I know doing it.... it's just hair, it'll either grow out or you cut/shave it off and start over. So, you get some attention for a while? If you didn't want it, you wouldn't have dyed your beard and mustache pink in the first place.

and a beard requires less time to grow back than for example long hair. although with this you can always dye it another colour anyway.
