The bigger they are...

the harder they fall? Oliver is a goofball - on one paw, he still thinks he's "the baby"; on another paw, he thinks he's the bad boy and on yet another paw he thinks he's a mountain lion! Tonight he thought he was a mountain lion! We were heating up some water for something warm to drink and he went flying thru the kitchen, up the cat tree and into the eyebrow window. Now, when I had that part of the house added on, I made sure they put an EXTRA WIDE sill up there so the cats could get up there safely and, so far, all the falls that I'm aware of have been due to cat fights and getting one up there trapped and jumping off. Not tonight - the goofball tried to turn around, loses his footing, and, after much scrabbling to try and get it back, falls off. He lands on the exercise bike, breaking his fall, which may or may not have been a good thing... he ran off, but stopped on the other side of the kitchen with his right paw up. Now, when he was a little kitten, he'd "sprain" his paws jumping off the bed and he seems to hurt them a bit more easily than most of the other cats, but he was fine a few minutes later. So - (hey Loverbear - I know you can relate!) do you have a goofball pet?

both my black cats. the big one likes to run at people sideways all hunched up (we call it the igor) when he wants to play.he'll zip out, come back, tag your foot and run off again. the new kitten is a mattress swimmer. she starts at one end,and zips along the sides by her claws. then there's the 3 am bouncing ya-ya's.

Nef, one of 4 of our black girls, is a hoot - she was playing with a poof she stole from Flower. You expect Flower who is 18 months, but Nef is 7 yrs old.

I have no pets due to Landlord decree, but my parents have several who have habits that will have you in stitches. For example, Mooch lives up to his name by slipping a paw into any unwatched beverage, thus living up to his name. The Maincoon, who's name is going missing at the moment (it is very late right now) will walk onto the back of any person so foolish to bend over. Rainbow (who has sense passed on) loved to bury her head into clean clothes or between cushions just like the mythical ostrich.

Um, those of us who have body parts that creak, (Mom & Stepdad have arthritis & I've Fibromyalgia) will have to live with the fact that we will have one, or more, passengers... Um, that goes for laps too!

I, too, have had cats on my back when I bend over, Rygel and Scamp are both known to do it - it is actually a trait that Siamese were used for to guard things. The doors were set low and if you bent down to go in, the cats would jump on the back, but those who knew how to go in - crouch down and enter - were safe.

LOL. That is funny. I have a new puppy and he thinks he is such a big boy already. It does not take much to scare the wits out of him too though and he takes off running. He is only 4 months old LOL, but he thinks he is a big one at times. He only weighs 7.5 pounds.

You're right! I can relate. I hear the sound of claws sliding down a wall and know that one of the brothers has done something stupid. Khuay is the king of goofball stunts. The other day he saw something in the dog's play pen and he tried to reach in and grab it, but it didn't work. He jumped up on my office chair and leaned over for a better look in the pen. That didn't satisfy him so he checked and saw that the Dachshunds were sleeping, so he jumped into the pen. Unfortuneately he didn't turn off the sound on his feet and landed with a thump! The dogs woke up and surrounded him, washing him like crazy. Little Bit also plucked hair (he likes pulling hair out of cats for some reason, he doesn't hurt them, but they get all kinds of "Cat Licks" from it) so by the time Little Bit and Monica were done, in 45 seconds, Khuay was soaking wet! He jumped straight up and over the barrier and raced for under my bed where it was warm and he could dry off. I know there are graceful cats out there, somewhere. I just don't get them. Of course I don't really want one who is graceful as they wouldn't be as much fun as the pair I have! If they aren't falling off things, they are falling into things like the toilet! Also it would leave me without anything to post on the lot!

Our dogs don't wash the cats, but Zoe does try to mount Booboo - this is a girl dog and a boy cat! Zoe really likes kittens, helped us with the bottle babies and she thinks Taj is her kitty, since he was the first kitten we got after we got her. He got his first bath with us from her!

All pets are goofballs, at some time or another. LOL My crazy cat likes to do back-flips, and play with toys with bells on them. haha He especially loves to do it in the middle of the night while we are trying to sleep. The other day he flipped his toy into a bucket of water, and we had to hang it up in the bahtroom to dry. haha

Honestly, if we had to fish a toy out of something, then some of them would find that even more appealing, just because we had to get it! Slap, sloosh, sloosh, sloosh!

My Whiskers is the exact same way. Only he falls from higher up. He has this knack when he's in mountain lion mode to literally run up the security screen door and perch on the main door. But sometimes he gets the main door moving when he jumps on it and ends up doing just like Oliver and grabbing for air as he goes tumbling. Usually he'll fall onto the sofa behind the door. But once in a while the dork will fall the other way clear to the floor. And of course then he looks at ME as if to say "mom why the heck did ya push me off the door?" LOL

actually, the eyebrow is above a door, so its right up under the ceiling - it should've be a big deal to turn on the wide sill, but Oliver isn't always the most graceful of cats, and in "mountain lion mode" is even less graceful, I guess. He didn't look accusingly toward us, but we tried to not look at him while it was happening - I didn't start laughing until I was sure he didn't take any harm from the fall - he landed on his BUTT on the exercise bike!

I only have a dog, and yes she's a goofball, but mostly she's just Spunky and I couldn't imagine life without her. She and I played in the first snowfall of the season today that didn't melt by lunchtime and it was a hoot to watch her try to stay airborne so that she didn't get her paws wet. lol

The roomie tells about the cat her folks had after they moved to Cedar Park. Mama and Fred would stay inside on cold nights and want out in the morning to take care of business. Well, the first time it snowed, they launched out the door and the roomie says Fred about turned himself inside out to get back inside before touching the snow. Mama stomped out to the first tree, did her thing and stomped back in. Now, when Suky was about 6 months old, we had an ice storm that glazed the city. We let Cat and Suky out, Cat sniffed at the ice, but Suky stepped carefully between icy blades of grass wondering what had happened to her world over night...

the only thing injured was his pride - and maybe a little on his back side! Since we didn't laugh until after I watched to make sure he wasn't hurt, he didn't realize we were laughing at him.

[b]Hmm. Just by the bye,' you identified each of 3 paws' characteristics, but that leaves one unaccounted for. Are you saving for some 4th, possible, as-yet unrevealed trait/identity? Or for some other reason? Maggiepie STALKERS...BEWARE ATTACK CAT!___^..^

even Sassy can be entertaining, and she's 18! Of course, her entertaining is generally taking swings at the "brats" that get too close to her!

Hey Elic! I hope Oliver is alright! My two crazy cats do all kinds of acrobatics and jump from the highest places and I always worry that they are going to really get hurt! But, they seem to land pretty well even from the highest places, even though some of the landings are a bit off! They seem to go craziest at night, as most cats do and my cat Star seems to be the most daring! Luna is not into heights! He seems to get into closets and behind cabinets and the sofa and other tight spaces! But, Star is the climber! He jumps from the tops of the kitchen cabinets like they are on the floor! And he makes me so nervous because sometimes he just misjudges the distances and falls pretty hard! But, he never seems any worse for wear! Poor Oliver! I guess some of them never do learn!lol

Most of the planned jumps go pretty well, its the unplanned ones that don't and this wasn't planned! I used to have The Doctor who landed hard from counter tops until he pretty much only jumped on them to aggravate another cat - he chipped a fang taking a hard landing when his feet slipped out from under him.

Oliver sounds like such a character; I hope he doesn’t hurt himself any more! We have a new kitten. He is 2and half months old and a crazy goofball! Like all kittens he is extremely cute and I had forgotten what handful young cats are! He has already broken my favourite vase and ripped into my jacket and I am sure there is plenty more mischief for him to get to! I found him in the rubbish bin the other day, he was stuck and could not get out and when I pulled him out he was covered in filth so he had to have his first bath after only two days in his new home. His name is Hewy and I can’t hear him right now…I better go and check what he’s up to...
