Do I want to drive THAT badly? |
| |
| Of course I do. But I didn't expect the huge hassle I got when I went in to renew my driver's license last week. It wasn't crowded, and I didn't have to wait in line. But what was supposed to be simple ended up being a three hour trek around the city. Don't ask! And then of course I paid the $21.50 to get my license renewed when they finally gave me my new one. Have any of you had to go through big hassles when renewing your driver's license? Whether it was your fault (here, if your driver's license goes three years without being renewed, to get a new license you have to take the written test again), or the fault of a business, or agency... | | | | | |

| | we had no problem getting that - living in the same city as the Vital Statistics are housed (and I used to work for them) - but they wanted TWO ids, and wouldn't accept her work id - and she doesn't have a credit card or whatever other id they wanted! WTH? | | | |

| | Oh I know! They were asking me for a passport ID or something else because they said my birth certificate wasn't enough. I had to do some searching. | | | |

| | yeah, and we couldn't find her passport, we were prepared to raise a stink until they finally decided they didn't need to fat ladies raising a stink in their lobby - and since I was a former state slave, I knew how much of a stink we could raise! (and where to go from there UP the chain of command!) - I mean, how dangerous is a 48 yr old fat BLIND woman ANYWAY? | | | |

| | That's just what you needed today, being so cold. Running around the city for a few hours. Did you get a chance to inspect all of the construction sites too? My son 25, who moved down earlier this year is going through a hassle. He's from Maryland and lost his drivers license from there. The only way he can get a replacement is to go to Maryland...like he's going to do that. So, even though he's been driving for years, he has to take the written and driving tests. Only problem there is that he doesn't get time off until January, and the testing and licensing sites aren't opened on weekends. You'd think that some of the locations would be open on Saturday, wouldn't you? | | | | | | |

| | I had the whole license hassle last Thursday. It all started when Section 8 asked me to come in so they reevaluate how much I would need to pay of my rent. She wanted a copy of my driver's license (although she had it from last year, and the year before), and when she saw it was expired, she told me I had two days to get a new one or they would close my case. Well, I'm sure you know I had to kick it into overdrive! Your poor son. He has to take everything again? When my sister moved to Missouri (she's back in Oklahoma now), they made her take the written test again, but not the driving. Although, when they fingerprinted her, they used actual ink! Like they were booking her. I guess they didn't have the electronic "thing" we have where we just have to stick our index fingers on that pad and the computer takes the image. | | | |

| | The problem with him not having a physical license in his possession is that they tell him that he can't prove that he ever had one...hense the written and driving tests. I don't understand why his driving records can't be pulled from Massachusetts and/or Maryland to prove that he's a licensed driver...but that's just me apparently. You know how these things work. Take the longest distance between points A and B..... | | | |

| | Well I personally haven't had to happen to me. My sons ex had went without her license for a few months. Here in KY if you go past six months then you have to do the written test all over to get the license back. It took her two trys to past the written..LOL Glad to know that you got yours the first time around. Have a good evening and keep smiling. | | | | | | |

| | I knew I could go three years with an expired driver's license and not have to take the test again, so I wasn't in a hurry. However, I was closing in on two years expired, and I DID NOT want to take that test again. Taking it once at 16 years old was enough. What really got me motivated to renew it, is that an agency needed my current ID. Six months and you guys have to retake the written? That's probably a good idea. How much does it cost you guys to pay for a new one? | | | |
rosepedal64 (1686)
|

| | When she went to retake they charged her $5 and then the renewal of the license is $20. They are good for 4 years. If you loose your license thru a court order then you have to retake the written which is $5 and then a $40 reinstatement fee and the $20 renewal fee. | | | |

| | wow what state do u live in? in wisconsin here we can now go 8 years before we have to renew again and then we just have to take the eye test. wow i dont think i would ever pass the written test again lol. | | | | | | |

| | I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. In Oklahoma, we have to get our license renewed every four years. However, if you go three years without renewing it - you're late for 3 years in doing that, and then you go in for a new one, they'll see you are three years late, and make you take the written test again. But we actually only have to get our license's renewed every four years. Eight would be nice though. Eight would be great! | | | |

| | You guys have to take an eye test to renew? That is probably a good idea, but here we don't even have to take an eye test (of course when I was 16 and first got my license they made me do the eye test). If we go renew it every four years, we are test free. | | | |

| | Well I recently got my permit, and it didn't take too much hassle. My husband renewed his license. I should have gotten my permit years ago, but was too lazy to fill out all the forms so that the DMV in my state knows that I'm alright to drive... lol. I got it all straightened out after realizing I wasn't doing much for myself but making myself depressed... so after all that process I just went in, gave them my i.d. card, the money, and took the vision and written test... Of course it cost me $15.00 to do that, my husband it cost $35.00 to renew his license, price skyrocketed on the renewal! | | | | | | |

| | ambiepam hi I don't drive but my best friend Nelda does and she had the devil of a time, she had to wait til almost noon, she aced the written test but of all things she failed the eyesight test as she had just had laser surgery done on one eye for rentinopathy from diabetes and the eye was still irritated so they had to send her to her opthamologist and he made her new glasses so now she had to come back and take the eye exam over and she passed and now she said hurrah I don't have to do this again for several years. but she said she was exhausted by the time she go through and hungry, we are both diabetics. Its hard to go for long periods of time without eating when you have diabetes. | | | | | | |

| | Yes. I have been through all kinds of things at the license branch. I call them ahead of time and ask them what they will need and what will be expected of me. They tell me and then when I get there, I do not have everything because they failed to tell me this or that. so I have to leave and then go back again. Grrrr. | | | | | | |
