perhaps one or two of the 6 songs you hear on repeat from every single shop, starting in july, might once have been bearable. 28 million repeats later they are not. and some never were to start with (i have no desire whatsoever to know santa is coming to town nor anything relating to mistletoe and wine).
what is your opinion on these monstronsities - fun, like fingernails down a blackboard, bearable? and what would you install in their place?
and here is the obligatory link, warning this IS scary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZhoF9Isf0o

JUDITH!!!! YAY!!! YER BACK!!!!!!
I have a near physical aversion to christmas music. Nails on chalk board would be a near symphonic relief from it. I would almost rather listen to hours of Ethal Merman singing acapala in falsetto.
Now, your listening displeasure, I present Bob dillon's christmas extravigana!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8qE6WQmNus

Alright, I am going to show my ignorance here and ask this question - what the heck is (tat)?
I like Christmas music, but I don't listen to the radio that often, so I am not overdosing on it. If I did, though, then I think I would probably be sick of it by now, too. I really like "The Redneck 12 Days of Christmas", which is a country song by Jeff Foxworthy. I think it is funny, especially since I know some people like that - yes, I know, stereo-typing and all.

Yes, the link worked! Sometimes I have problems with them the first time and have to re-post them. Let me know what you think of it.

I don't have to live with Christmas music being played all day every day, but if I did I think I would tire of it. Since I only hear it for the short time I am in a shop, I don't mind it at all. Santa has never been part of our Christmas, and I avoid anything to do with him at Christmas, but even music about santa is not objectionable.
I find that when Christmas music is being piped through the shop, most customers are smiling; many are humming and some are singing. It is peaceful, "happy" music and has a good, calming effect on people - though as I said, if it was constant all day, every day, it could have the opposite effect.

Quite possibly we get different music here. We seem to get a lot of Bing Crosby and old-time "happy" somngs - evidenced by the added cheer in the shoppers.
I do agree though that workers getting it all day every day could be badly affected by it.

well i am not so sure about the calming effect cloudwatcher - maybe you don't have as much of it over there as we get here, but here the effect seems to be generally to make already harassed people yet more harassed. and as for the unfortunate shop workers who have to put up with it all day, every day, well i think it must violate some employment law or other. it is pretty inhumane to make workers listen to it on a loop all day (i worked in bars over two christmases and it did our heads in...).

Ironically, not being religious, my two favorite Christmas songs are O Holy Night and Ave Maria (the Schubert)...

One of the radio stations here where I live started playing 24-hour Christmas music back on November 1. It's ridiculous...we hadn't even had Thanksgiving yet. I seriously can't wait until December 26, when they'll go back to playing normal music again.

I work in a retail store where christmas songs are piped in. And on the ride to and from work I'm also forced to listen to christmas music in the car. Its horrid, horrid noise to me by the end of the season.

hi jb you old blue bunny like most things in life too much of anything good or bad can make you sick emotionally or physically. I dread Grandma got run over by a reindeer thats sick and just disgusting. what I like are some of the christmas hymns to me Christmas is not about Santa Claus at all. As for wham it was just boring, strangers having fun when the real life is not really very funny, people out of work, and little or no money, as for the music it was also boring. this christmas would be a lot better for me if I was back with my son in our own apartment with him working again.here its fine, its okay but one thing it is not is home. I dont know how to explain it but theres this empty feeling inside me as I smile and wish everryone a Merry Christmas.

Hello there rabbit! If I hear "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" one more time I think I might just shoot the radio!
I believe they started playing Christmas music in some of the stores down here right after Halloween and I'm fairly sick of all of them at this point. The worst torture I ever endured was the annual two hour trip we used to have to take every Christmas Eve to see my ex's grandmother. Four hours total of nothing on the radio but holdiay songs.

A scroogie rabbit among us? Actually, I love most of the Christmas music and listen to it...on purpose and everything!
the only one that gets on my nerves, since my grand kiddos die laughing each time they hear it? grandma got run over by a reindeer

well, i suppose i like some things about christmas. so i am not a complete scroogie rabbit...however there's an awful lot of tat, hence this series of discussions. the ghastly grandma got run over thing does seem to appear on a lot of people's lists for some reason

Hello, Judith. I like some Christmas songs, but it may amaze you to know that, as a Cliff Richard fan, I don't go much on his Christmas records. I like 'Merry Christmas Everybody,' by Slade, because it's so true to life, and I love 'Silent Night,' whatever language it's sung in. The rest of them, I can do without.

By this time of the season the music is definitely wearing thin. I live in a small town on Main street..last year the village fathers decided to pipe Christmas music 12 hours a day all through the town..evidently we have speakers of some kind in all our street lights. I am seriously considering paying a truckdriver to run over the 3 near my home and I really hope none of my own tax dollars are being used to torture me.
Grandma got Ran over tv special was on here the other night..My grandson got lots of angel points when he told me he wasn't watching it and that he just didn't think grandma being mowed down by santa was even a little funny. He also wants a new nintendo for Christmas.

Maybe they were..if I were them I would claim to have been..Now I have this mental image of the group of them all tanked up deciding how best to screw with the villagers..at least you gave me a reason to laugh the next time I open my door and hear the 12 days of Christmas.

Good King Wenceleslass looked out of his bedroom winder,
Silly b*gger, he fell out, on a red hot cinder.
Brightly shone his b*m that night, though the frost was cruellll.
Till a doctor came in sight, riding on a muuuuu uuuu elllll.
Got to be my favourite.
One of the most cringeworthy ones for me must be David Bowie and Bing Crosby, Little drummer boy.

Only a matter of time before they can't. I don;t see much dissidence here from chinese citizens, but I do see some ocaisionaly, all it is going to take is for some big government official to spot it, check the site out and *poof*, it's gone.

you poor thing. i feel for you, i have enough of it when i go into town. or near town (within a 50 mile radius)
