Fostering dogs

Last week we got 5 dogs to rehome. Three are gone and two remain, haveing that many dogs to find homes for is very hard. I think the other two are placed but I don't know when. I would keep them but they just aren't good for ranch life. They have long hair and we don't have time for daily grooming of dogs. Both have very sweet manners. Have you ever taken on extra dogs to foster?

I train dogs. At one time I had 31 Dogs of my own. I also bought dogs for people that wanted certain dogs , I would find a good breed line of the kind they wanted, train them, then sell them the dog...

What kind of dogs do you train? We have never been in any business with dogs but have had many. 3 was the largest number we had at one time, two springer bird dogs and one household min. poodle. Now we usually have one at a time, right now she is a hound, this is the first of those we have had. We have reached a point where we needed a less active dog, Sadie is very active about 3 times a day and the rest of the time she sleeps hound fashion. On the ranch we need a good sized dog that barks which she does well. Thanks for responding.

In my pic I have these 2 brats. They r Bouviers Des Flanders, cattle hearders, working dos. I train schutzhund style , used for security and police work. When finished training they listen to what I say n stop when I say stop. They r to big not to listen. Even when they r a smaller dog they should listen ..

Dogs are a different responsibility then cats, dogs are much more interactive and have needs for exercise, discipline, grooming and training. Make sure your kids are old enough to help with all of this or you will find yourself with one more child who never grows beyond the age of 2.

Good on you for doing that! My dream is to be able to open a shelter of some kind for homeless animals. It is beyond my means at the moment and, because I have four pets of my own I don’t have the room for any more but I am going to keep dreaming of being able to buy a large property somewhere and perhaps open a hotel for cats as well! I will keep buying lottery tickets, you never know…Good luck with your foster dogs, hope they can be re homed without any problems.

You need to win a big lottery to be able to afford to shelter any rescue animals.
They get very expensive fast. When we take in Llamas the first thing we have to do is fix the boys, that's about $125.00 and that is not any shots or other Vet work that they need. I know cats cost a little less but it's still expensive. We do need all the people we can find to rescue animals and give them a decent life. Thanks for responding

At some time, when I had a home in the country, I've taken on various animals to foster. I just couldn't ever turn them away. The most recent was kittens 3 years ago. So sweet, but they were easy to find homes for for...most baby animals are.
Speaking of dogs and ranch life, I have a feeling that if you're much of a reader you'd enjoy the novel Edgar Sawtelle, about a dog "farm."

There's a special place in heaven for people like you. I've wanted to foster dogs, but haven't for several reasons: I've got three one-year-old Pitbull pups who aren't properly socialized, I'm afraid I'd get too attached to the foster dogs, and third, my husband said no, three one-year-old pups are enough dogs for anyone. As a matter of fact, one of our girls is in heat right now, and our normally super mellow male has apparently lost his mind, and I will admit they've been a handful... :) But I'm so grateful for the people like you who have the room in their homes and hearts to do what you do.

It must be hard to find them good Homes and it is so wonderful that you do this
I can't do this as I live in a rented Flat but if I could then yes I would do something like that even though I would find it hard to let them go lol

I haven't I think my dog would object to it. He tends not to like other dogs most of the time, and is an excitable sort, so I dont think it would be a very good idea.

I have never fostered dogs but I have gotten my dogs from local shelters and just recently took one from a family that adopted a dog but then found they could not do it. Kudos to you for giving them a temporary loving home.
