When traveling, how much baggage do you bring?  email this discussion to a friend?

I travel a lot and I almost always travel light. One thing funny about me is that I leave home with a very light bag but I come home with heavy baggage. There was a time I traveled abroad with one big luggage and a hand carry. When I came back, I had two big luggages, a backpack and my hand carry. Of course the additional baggage contained stuffs I bought for friends, family and relatives.

When I travel for at least a week, I will bring a big bag that can contain clothes good for one week plus other essentials. For overnight travels, I just bring an overnight bag where I can put all the essentials. When I travel for two or three days, a big backpack would do.

How about you?

The thing about me is that I leave home with heavy baggage and come home with more heavy baggage. Seriously when I go to the airport people stares at my baggage. My family thinks that I over do it, but how can I leave behind my cosmetics, high heels shoes, my teddy bear, etc.LOL.

I always travel light. I bring one suitcase and one handbag. In my handbag I keep the most important things like my tickets, my wallet and my passport. I like to use a handbag that relatively big, so that I can carry my camera, my guidebooks, my dictionaries and my maps when I go sightseeing. In my suitcase I often bring some of my old clothes or clothes that I was planning on throwing away or donating to charity. I leave my old clothes when I am going back, and that way I am able to carry the presents for my friends and my family in my suitcase. It doesn't always work though. Sometimes I buy too much, and then I need to get one more bag when I am going back lol

It depends, as there are lots of promo with travel light I just have my back pack and my shoulder bag. When going abroad for 3 to 4 days my back pack a hand carried bag and my shoulder bag, and I have this small tote bag to place in my passport and other travel documents and my money. If say for a month abroad I have this 2o kilos luggage my hand carry bag and my shoulder bag. In going to domestic travel I know what to bring and carry. As to gifts, I usually have some for my family but not to so many as they usually dont know I am travelling.

I always travel light. I only carry things that I need. I hate carrying a lot of baggage so often I just carry one. If I stay long, then I carry a bigger baggage. Just like you. I find it easier and much more easy to monitor one bag rather than have so many.happy

I love travelling and I enjoy it very much. It's hard but I try to limit my baggage, especially now with restrictions in luggage allowance. Normally, for out of the country flight trips, I have one check-in luggage and a carry-on. But when I go back home, just like you dolce_vita78, I end up with a double amount of luggage! Yep, for welcome home gifts to dear family, relatives, and friends. I am trying to master light packing and hopefully I can get the knack of it. How tough it is to travel light, when as women, it's just natural for us to pack up everything! HAHA It is much easier travelling light.

My job also enables me to travel within north america regularly. I only travel with one handbag which I do not check in. I am also contemplating getting a nexus card so that I don't have to do the lineups in airport. After a travel, when we touch down, I just want to get to the parking, get the car and drive home. I don't like to wait at line ups for immigration.

When I began traveling I took really heavy baggage. Then when I was 18 I met an Australian lady that demonstrated having light baggage. She had to wash her every day or she wouldn't have has other clothes to wear. She stayed in backpacker hostels. I tried to make my baggage lighter and managed that on trips of two weeks. However for the trips I did that lasted several months to over one year I sent parcels home from Australia and New Zealand. Thank goodness I didn't send a parcel from South Africa. Not even postcards got through that I send from there. In 2008 I took my toddler son to Riga in Latvia. We were allowed one piece of baggage weighing 15kg or less. That packing was challenging. We did manage it though we had to pay more for the airline to carry the 5kg travel cot. I always travel with a backpack.

Hi maximax: it looks that you travel a lot. I feel jealous because that's exactly what I would like to do with my life. Probably in the near future i will be able to follow my dream, thought. Well I think that you have decide to travel with light baggage for the right reasons and that's nice. I would like to travel to Australia, but my first destination would be France. I know that Canada is a nice country too. Well thanks for your answer. Hope you are having a nice day. Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays. Take care.

i grew up in manila. when i got married, i decided to stay with my in-laws in iloilo city. i visit manila whenever i have big projects. (im a freelance computer engineer.)most of the time, i bring only my back pack with 2 sets of clothes. i would always tell my wife that i have lots of clothes in manila whenever she insists on bringing more. and when im about to go back to iloilo, my mom would ask me to bring some presents. if its food, il tell her that "they dont eat those kind of foods there". if its clothes, "they already have those". only to avoid those kilos of bags that need to carry everytime you take a long walk.rasp. happy new year dolce_vita78.

Hi dolce vita: As I know my travel will be more expensive if my baggage are too heavy I think i will try to go as lighter as i can and buy everything I need in the place i am going to travel. But at the same time i know that i will need a lot of baggages if i nee to do a long trip. I don't know what i am going to do because there are so many things I would like to take with me in case I travel to another country to continue my studies: there are so many things very significant to me. I think you can understand me. Thanks fro asking me this question. Hope you are having a nice day. Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays. Take care.
