My neighbor shoveled my sidewalk yesterday!  

When I lived in the Southwest in an "upscale" community, none of my neighbors offered to help me move in or out or were even friendly. People are different here in the Midwest. You and I are blessed to be around good and generous people. Even strangers here are nice, they let you in line in traffic, offer you their place in line at the grocery if you look like you're in a hurry or have a crying child. I love it here.

Your neighbor will reap what he sows. And what a nice cop to help you out! Police and Fire workers are wonderful people, they are so generous and truly want to help the public. If you really think, I'm sure you can come up with something a stranger has done for you recently--let you into traffic, smiled at you, etc.

Maybe you'll get a replacement for your neighbor one of these days. One can only hope!

Well I have to say not much has happened lately. It seems the Christmas spirit sucked the life out of people this year. I think there is just such a large number of those who are struggling ( 54%, according to our paper last week, of people in our area have lost their jobs) they just do not seem to notice others. That said I did see a woman stop and pick up a stray kitty the other day, that was nice to see.

In my opinion that was totally rude to tell you that you shouldn't be shoveling yet just walk away and not offer at least a little help.
I am glad I have really decent neighbors.
I myself have shoveled and blown snow for other neighbors.
Here's a shot of my drive on the Holiday after it snowed a few days non-stop. That was great of the officer to do it for you.

I'm so glad you live in such a place! Good neighbors are a real blessing and when we all work together our world is so much nicer.

When I first moved here, the man I bought the house from had gathered the neighbors to meet me and we all got to know each other. That was such a nice thing for him to do! He even had a cold drink waiting for me after my 3-day drive here.

I would like to visit your country sometime. Those that post here from the Philippines are so nice and very interesting, too.

Same here in our country,when a new neighbor moved in,there's a welcome party being held,just a simple gathering to introduce each one another.
But,it's not all over the country,with just selected places especially here in metros,but in towns and provinces...the culture still goes on...the hospitality being practiced and observed well.

I think if we make a bigger effort to be kind to people, they will usually do the same. If only half of them do, we can make a real difference. I'm glad you have a good neighbor! It certainly brightens our lives when things like this happen to us or we hear about them happening to others.

What a guy! Good neighbors are worth their weight in gold. I'm willing to bet that you're a good neighbor, too.

You are right when you say we live like a big family--that is how it is in your area and that's how the whole world should be, because we are all family. I hope we can extend that feeling beyond our own neighborhoods!

I disagree, it truly is spectacular that you have people like that in your life! Many of us don't. It's those little thoughtful things that make our hearts warm and make life worth living!

Yes, it's a pain--literally! Your neighbor is a very generous person, very kind. Such people make the world a bearable place.

Yes, you're right. Neighbors should stick together and help each other. See, you are a good neighbor so you have good neighbors and friends!

Don't overdo the strain on your back, though. I have a bad back due to scoliosis and arthritis and when I overdo it I'm down for days, I know how painful it is. Be careful!
