| | Yes, it is definitely whatever works for you, and the Wii exercises are probably right up your alley. I prefer a more intense work out... I'm always covered in sweat before I leave the gym, and if I'm not, then I don't feel like it was a good enough work out. But there's nothing wrong with the exercises on the Wii, and if it gets you moving and makes you a little stronger, then it's wonderful for you! Just keep it up. Eating healthier is the hard part, I still struggle with it sometimes. I have the emotional eating problem as well, and healthier choices are certainly more expensive. One thing I've recently discovered is that sometimes a cup of coffee is enough to satisfy my cravings for sweets. I use calorie free sweetener and fat free flavored creamer, so it's low in calories but still tastes yummy, and it's not too expensive. I've had a lot fewer slip ups since I've begun making a cup of coffee when I'm craving chocolate. | | | |

| | Dawn, it sounds like a pool work out would be perfect for you. You should look into it. I know around here the high schools offer indoor swimming during the winter months for like $2 a person on weekends. You can take the whole family, let the kids splash around while you walk around the shallow end or tread water in the deep end... things like that. Not so much impact on your foot. | | | |

| | I think an elliptical machine would be good also. No impact on the foot... | | | |

| | I'll take 49. :-) And maybe I'll look into swimming. The only anti-inflammatory that I'm taking is Advil. It's not bothering me that much. The dang tendonitis in my elbow is bothering me much worse! | | | |

| | My husband twisted his ankle a few weeks ago, and days later attempted the elliptical and he said it hurt. Granted a lot of times the first 5 minutes of working out causes me pain as well, sometimes you have to push through it and after the first few minutes it goes away, but he didn't give it the chance. He's getting better now though and will do half an hour on a machine before going to weights. | | | |

| | I can see how that would hurt your ankle. I guess I won't know with this unless I try it. But swimming's a great idea anyway... | | | |

| | There are a lot of arguments about those low carb diets. I personally do not believe carbs are evil. Actually your body needs carbs for fuel. Your body burns mostly carbs to keep you going. Contrary to popular belief, if you starve yourself of carbs, your body will not burn more fat. In fact, the body will instead convert lean protien into the fuel it needs, which means you'll lose muscle mass. Since muscle weighs more than fat, that is what is contributing to your weight loss when restricting carbs. What I have done, instead of cutting out carbs, is replacing simple carbs with complex carbs, which are high in fiber and make you feel full longer. Replace white bread with 100% whole wheat. Choose whole wheat pasta. Avoid white potatoes, try sweet potatoes instead. They are simple switches that aren't difficult to make, but will help you be healthier and get slimmer. | | | |

| | cynthiann - thanks for the reply. My life has improved no end since I ditched the carbs. Not only have I lost weight (and my other half has, too), I've learned to cook many more interesting dishes - not reliant on stodge! - and I've been far less lethargic at about 17:00 in the afternoon (and after dinner)! I think carbs just knock me out, because my body has to do so much work digesting them... katsmeow1213 - I know there are some issues with the low carb diet, but I don't think burning of protein over fat is one of them. At least, not in my experience! I still have muscles (can still do my 60 press-ups), but the fat (what there was) has disappeared. My body appears to be getting its energy from fat. Plus, I've lost about three inches on my waist, and I don't think that has to do with muscle loss! I do think that I need a more balanced diet, and I don't cut out carbs altogether - so, I eat long grain brown rice and wholemeal bread - but I would still heartily recommend the low carb diet to anyone trying to lose weight. | | | |

| | Actually the muscle thing is 100% true... here: "When there is not enough carbohydrate to convert into blood sugar, the body is forced to use stored blood sugar from the liver and muscles," quotes Karol Watson, M.D. on a WebMD article... want to read it for yourself? http://www.webmd.com/diet... That's not the only down side to a low carb diet. It could also lead to kidney failure... and one article I read said it can lead to cancer! It's your life and you can live it how you want to, but it's really not a good idea to spread false information and convince others to follow diets that are not healthy! | | | |

| | katsmeow1213 - I disagree, actually quite strongly. There is evidence on either side of the debate and there is by no means a consensus that the low carb diet is unhealthy. A recent article found that low carb diets not only helped weight loss, but also reduced blood pressure: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8478629.stm Besides which, the low carb diet was followed (by default) by our evolutionary ancestors, who obtained most of their energy from fat. Also - doesn't everything supposedly cause cancer? I'm sure orange juice is a major culprit... You can selectively read the evidence to support any conclusion. I'm not spreading false information, and I resent the implication that I'm deliberately misleading people! This is not my intention. I merely wish to share the success my other half and I have had in losing weight. | | | |

| | I do understand what you re saying but I just cannot sleep if I am hungry. I have cut down on fat to reduce cholesterol and I am hoping that my lossof weight will reduce my high blood pressure. | | | |

| | Exercise has been a part of my life for a long long time. I wanted to make you aware of something that I heard on the news the other day. There is a new discovery, normal weight obesity. It seems that people can be of normal weight and still be prone to the same diseases that obese people are prone to because their body fat percentage is too high. The story told of a woman who lost 100 lbs and kept it off for over a year. Her weight was normal but when they tested her body fat percentage, she came in at 42%. Now she weight trains and while she's 18 lbs heavier, her body fat percentage is 23%. Make sure that you get that weight training in. You're doing something so good for yourself. You will soon start to feel better and see increases in energy and stamina. | | | | | | |

| | This is good to know and I thank you for this information.I did not kno wthis - isn't there so much to learn? I was thinking of pound loss only and not really considering the body fat percentage.Howis thismeasured? I would be so interested to know? | | | |

| | There are a number of body weight calculators that are free on the internet. It requires that you input some measurements and your height and your weight. The one that I use is available at healthstatus.com. The most accurate way is to have it done professionally but I think that you could use this method until you think that you're closer to where you want to be. I'm continually amazed that people feel free to comment on someone's weight. After all, would they walk up to someone and say you're too short or you're really ugly? No but everyone thinks that they can express their opinion on our weight. | | | |

| | cynthiann, It is great to see that you are increasing the intensity on your exercises but please do remember to take care of yourself especially your knees and lower back. Looks like you are doing quite well as far as pace is concern and should be in good shape in no time. Remember to lay back when you are on your off days or need to regress and be comfortable at all times. No injury! So, that's it from me, now it's up to you now. Take care and have a great workout there. | | | |

| | Size 14 to 16 is the average in the US but you certainly wouldn't think it to hear people talk. We always need someone to pick on, seems we larger people are "it" at the moment. Keep up the good work and do it to make you happy and improve your quality of life, not because someone else tells you that's the way it should be. Many of the world's most beautiful women are not toothpicks, including my wife, I think we need to reexamoine the emphasis we put on that. Good luck! | | | | | | |

| | I enjoy my Wii and my Wii fit. I just don't use it as much as I should since I mostly do Turbo Jam now. Drunk Wii Bowling is fun. Hahah. I bought Dance Dance Revolution 2 which is so much fun, and I have the EA Active game, but that one just got too annoying for me. I love the Fit with the yoga because it helps you do the poses properly and it's a great stretch for the body. | | | | | | |

| | I honestly think that we have a picture of ourselves that is not shared by other who see us. I have never considered myself obese but now I know that I am. The pounds piled on during my husband's long illness- I am an emotional eater- and since his death too. But at least I am doing something about it now. Better late than never! | | | |
