Our eyes is one of the most used and expose part of our body, especially during work time, we spend long hours sitting in front of the computer. So its very important to know the essential nutrients needed for our eyes to keep it healthy. So here's the foods that's needed for our eyes that we must remember to include in our diet. I found this on online internet newspaper. Avocado, broccoli, eggs, spinach, kale, tomato: all as source of lutein. • Carrots: rich in vitamin A • Garlic and sunflower seeds: provides selenium • Tomatoes: source of lycopene • Salmon: rich in omega-3 fatty acids Do you eat any of this list of foods?

I eat some of those food on the list like avocado, eggs, broccoli, tomato, carrots, spinach, garlic and salmon, but not as often. Actually, I rarely cook these days because I am often busy, so I just dine in or buy take out food in fast food restaurants. I know that it's unhealthy, not to mention impractical since they tend to be pricey at times. I guess i have to make some changes in my life then.

Some other foods that are good for eye health are green leafy vegetables such as kale collards and spinach that are full of lutein and zeaxanthin to help prevent cataracts and other related problems. Foods rich in vitamin C such as oranges, peaches and strawberries. Peanuts, almonds and sunflower seed are full of vitamin E which also helps to slow down age related macular degeneration. Kidney beans with zinc and works with vitamin A to the liver. It helps with night vision. Not my favorite bean. apricots full of beta carotene that converts to vitamin A in the body and helps with night vision. One should have at least one vitamin A food every day.

Hi Careguarden! Aside from what you have mentioned, I also eat squash, papayas, and many other green leafy vegetables. And to add on how to take care of our eyes, we should also protect them from harsh sunlight or strong radiation like the ones coming from our computers. Because I don't think if you abuse your eyes, eating healthy would not repair the damages. (^^,)

Very true, foods rich in vitamin A are good for our eyes. My mom used to tell us to eat squash when she always include it in her favorite dish. Although I only eat eat on that and I can only eat tomatoes when it is fresh like in salad, the amount of daily intake for that is not sufficient. So we do take food supplements like Zinc which is good not only for the eyes but the immune system, reproductive system and more. I also like to include garlic in my congee. About salmon and tuna, i really like to eat such because they are good also for the heart because of Omega-3.

Hi careguarden, I really appreciate your discussion which is very imp. part of our body i.e.Eyes. One must take care of it and eat healthy. Well, among the listed food, I regularly eat eggs, brocolli, tomato, carrot, garlic. I like these food and my family too. Diet and upkeep are two important factors in taking care of your eyes. Eye exercises can restore your sight. Yes, carrot are rich in Vit. A and loaded with beta carotene are especially helpful in maintaining healthy eyes. Besides this when you are out in sun wear UV protective sunglasses. Get polarized lenses, not just darker lenses. The lenses that only make the world darker will just make your pupils dilate and don't do a thing to stop the UV rays. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can harm your eyesight, protection in youth can help prevent loss of eyesight in later years. Thanks.

I am glad that you appreciate my discussion. The additional information you give is very helpful as well and thank you for it. Our eyes need lutein which can be found in foods that will help reduce the risk of age-related muscular degeneration of the eye and aside from that it also help protect against the detrimental effects of long-term computer display light exposure. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Wow, there are actually only a couple of foods on that list of foods that I don't eat on a regular basis. The two foods that I see right off the top that I don't eat on a regular basis are salmon and kale. In fact, I don't think that I've ever been exposed to kale. When it comes to salmon, this is something that I will eat from time to time, but it isn't something that I eat on a regular basis because it takes a long time to prepare.
