Do some things make you so curious you HAVE to learn about them?  email this discussion to a friend?

If I see a bird or plant I haven't seen before I have to look them up and find out about them. Not just a name but what type they are and so on. It just bugs me if I don't know.

Are you like that? Do you see something and think "I have to know about it" and go look it up?

I am like this ALL the time! Not about everything, of course, but I am just curious in general and really want to *know* things, you know what I mean? My current wondering has been about a certain type of tree I started noticing recently in and around my neighborhood. It seems that once I spotted one, suddenly I was seeing this tree all over, sometimes with smaller or differently colored flowers, but I still have no idea what it is. There are times I wish I could conjure up my botany professor from college and ask him what's what --if only!

If you could take a picture and stick it on mylot and ask people I'm sure someone would know. There's a lot of plant identification going on in the "gardening" section.

Now you have made me curious, Catkin. I do hope you can post a picture. There certainly would be people who would try to help.

That hadn't even occurred to me, but what a great idea! Do I have to have over 500 to post pictures? It's alright if that's the case, I'll just upload them on photobucket and type up the links :)

I was meaning to go for a walk today, this is the perfect excuse! :)

myLot reputation of 99/100. GardenGerty (35345)  2 years ago

You are right. Pictures cannot be uploaded until 500. I think you have a good way around it.

I am naturally curious as well. I think that is a trait I inherited from my mom, or it comes from an environment where we all did that. My first husband was that way as well. We like to look things up. The second thing is that we love to own books and that helps us look things up.

I think my curiosity comes at least in part from my parents as well. We've all had an interest in language for quite some time, too; I can recall during dinners when I was younger, a word coming up in conversation that we suddenly wondered about the origin of, so off one of us would go to get the good old Merriam-Webster dictionary to look it up. Stuck with me, methinks, and I am ever grateful for it.

Aren't people with that heritage lucky?

Indeed, very much so. And it's great that we can spread it to others, too.

Yes, I always want to define things that I cannot understand or find out about something that I have not come into contact with before. Sometimes I may go out of my way to get the knowledge I am after. I think it is important to know as much as we can about the world we live in. happy_Derek

This happens to me all the time. One reason I love the internet so much. I can go online and do research on anything that I am curious about or that has come to my attention. It is great and one of my favorite things to do. It does bug me alittle ,yes and so I am glad I can jump on the internet and check it out.

Yes things do this to me all the time. My husband calls them my life tangents. I saw something I liked that was knit so I read up and taught myself to knit. I see something about a certain herb and read up and learn to use it. I am a huge history buff so anytime I see something I know not about, I am at the library or online finding reading materials and what not. I am the same with recipes and pretty much any and all hand crafts. My family all has this habit which explains why so many have various degrees in completely unrelated topics. Mine are in writing, Home economics, martial arts and herbal remedies. I am now working on an archeology degree. My Father has his in architecture, firefighting/control, Electrical mechanism, and marine biology. We are all like this. My husband's family who all are still in the same job scenes as when they just got out of school do not understand this at all. I feel sorry for them and am glad to say I have worn of on my hubby who is going to be going back to school once he chooses which of the 5 subjects he would like to learn about first.
