If you saw someone on the side of the road...?  

It depends. If I have my kids with me then there's no way. But I remember there were a couple of times that I broke down and some kind person pulled over and offered me a lift somewhere, and I've been waiting for my chance to pay it forward, you know. I think if the other person were female I'd feel more comfortable, and it would have to appear as if their car broke down and they aren't just walking around waiting for someone to pick them up, you know. Then I'd pull over and offer to let them use my phone at the very least.

Well in order to give the most accurate answer, it would be ideal to know if the person was walking or just sitting along side the road. Is it a male or a female?
If it were either a male or female and the person was sitting along side the road in a rural area, I may stop to see if there was anything wrong health wise. Likely I would offer a ride but first I would size the person up. If I felt that there may be a risk to my personal safety I would not offer a ride. Otherwise I would for sure.
It would make one wonder, who is driving along a rural highway, so rural that they were the only car and then happen upon a single person out in the middle of nowhere, what was up. I would most likely stop.

I think I would try to read the situation. If
I had passed a car parked before I came up on him.
Maybe he had broken down. If it was in my
neighborhood, and if I had met him. A stranger I
do not think I would stop. You know even if a
man is with you, a person still can control the
situation with scare tactics. We always have to be
careful. It might be best to leave them alone.

I'd stop, but I wouldn't let them in my car unless it was an emergency.

I live on a farm in rural Ontario Canada. I go for a walk every day. Several cars will pass as I walk. No one has ever slowed down or stopped to ask the condition of my health. The reason no one has ever asked if I would like a ride is that they know I'm walking for the exercise. People in Rural Canada like to walk and often go walking on the road. Its not that unusual, and there are no serial killers in this community!

for me, it depends how this person looks while his walking. i will look if his condition is ok or not. nowadays,its really hard to trust someone especially when your alone.ther'es so many bad guys out there. its good to be safe always.

While driving on highways I usually mind my own business. Even if someone makes a sign to stop on a lonely spot I would exercise my discretion. I could be a hold up too. Unless you are very sure that you can handle the situation, you should carry on and inform highway petrol at the next opportunity.

It depends upon the situation.. I'll assess first the person to know if he really needs a help or just something else and of course know what's his needs. So if he needs a help,then i'll give a him a help.

Unless I saw a car broken down somewhere prior to seeing the person walking I would more than likely just keep going. My cousins grew up in an extremely rural area and I remember spending time there during the summers and we'd go for walks. My aunt did the same. Because the houses were so few and far between and often set way back, I think some people just didn't realize that we actually were not far from home. Maybe because we were women, I don't know but it happened a few times that someone would stop and ask if we needed a ride somewhere. I think because of those experiences, I would not find it odd to see someone walking on a rural road. I also think that a person in need of help would signal a passing car for help. In that case, I'd stop if I were with someone. If not, I'd continue driving and call for help.
