Yesterday my DD2 didn't have a nap, she's very big on napping. However, she has a hard time napping on the weekends so she missed her nap yesterday. So getting her to bed was quite the chore as she was having a tantrum for well over an hour over some brownies it got too late to make. Well when she finally fell asleep, I was happy... I thought everything was fine. Then about an hour ago she woke up just screaming and wasn't very nice to say the least. Kicked her sister out of bed and just plain wigging out. I know there's nothing you can do but ride it out... I was hoping to never see one of those again! So I am up right now @ 1am giving her some time to get back to sleep fully & get DD1 back to sleep as well.

Have you ever delt with a toddler night terror?

Aydan used to have those when he was around 18 months (he's the almost 4 year old). It was basically a nightly thing, didn't depend on naps. He'd wake up just screaming bloody murder and it was nearly impossible to calm him down. We'd have to bring him downstairs and put him in front of some cartoons and he'd eventually calm down and go back to sleep. All we could do was ride it out, and he eventually stopped.

My oldest son had night terrors regularly until he was about ten and then they cut back to a couple times a month. The last time was when he was 17. There's not a thing you can do about it as far as I know except just hold her till she wakes up or goes back to sleep. My son never remembered what he was dreaming about, they rarely do. Good luck! There'll be time to sleep when you're old. sad

My son had them a few times when he was younger, but not very many and not often. My daughter has had them quite a few times. Her most recent one was a few weeks ago.

Fortunately my two never had night terrors, or night mares that I am aware of. My daughter has had trouble sleeping at times, but she is an adult. I think she gets stressed. Maybe kids get stressed and have night terrors, but they do not have the words to express their feelings and they just scream it all out. Good luck, and sleep tomorrow, I guess it would have been today.

I've noticed she does it more, when she's really over tired and goes to sleep before bed time is when it happens or if you disturb her if she does that. So if she crashes on the couch you leave her be or you'll pay. :0(

I've been lucky that the closest that I've ever had to deal with to what you've described is when it will storm during the night. As soon as my son hears thunder or sees lightening, he is down the stairs and in my bedroom in a flash. He will typically go back to sleep pretty quickly once he is in the room with my husband and myself. I really don't like the fact that he is afraid of storms, but it is something that I've learned to deal with.

My eldest is afraid of storms and whatever bumps in the night she hears along with the dark ect. So she climbs down from her bunk to crowd me out of bed and snuggle saying she heard this or that. She's been that way since she was a toddler, wonder how long it'll be til she grows if she grows out of it?
