Sneaking in spinach

The new veggie I'm growing in our garden this year is spinach. I've been sneaking it into things I've been making and no one has seemed to notice thus far. And by sneaking it in i mean cutting it up finely so it looks like it may be parsley or not noticable at all. The one I've done the best with hiding it in so far is Meat Loaf, stir fry's or anything it could get lost in the crowd. It's soo good for you and why not right? Sneaking anything healthy into your families food lately?

Nope, wouldn't happen!
Most of my kids are actually pretty good about eating vegetables and will always try something new, so I don't have to hide it on them.
Hubby is the picky one, and he has a super sensative pallet, so even if I tried to hide something, he'd notice it and refuse to eat it.

My oldest is the picky one then her opinion influences the other two which then can sometimes snowball to my dismay. That's why it's easier to hide stuff they wouldn't eat normally.
Hubby won't eat some of it too and he loves veggies just not squash and spinach. But ya make zucchini bread and it's GONE! Thinking bout hiding some spinach in there too!

Good for you! I love spinach and so does my husband but my youngest daughter refuses to eat it. I really think that it has a stigma with it and that is why kids do not like it. I am not sure that if they ate it without knowing what it was that they would not like it.

That's how I work it in my house. If I know they don't like it I sneak it in. I know they dislike squash but if you puree it and store it in ice cube trays you can add it to various sauces. Though I'm finding spinach outside of the color the fresh stuff is easier to hide because it doesn't taste funky like the canned stuff.

Hey, that works. Meatloaf was actually the first thing that came to mind when I saw the heading on this.
I sometimes include ingredients in my recipes that my boyfriend swears that he just doesn't like. The funny thing is, he actually does like the foods; he just doesn't like the thought of them.
My rule regarding sneaking in ingredients is that I wouldn't add in something that crosses certain lines. For instance, I wouldn't sneak in seafood for my boyfriend, since it is something that he chooses not to eat for various ethical, moral, and dietary reasons. I wouldn't sneak meat or broth into a dish that is supposed to be vegetarian, nor would I use animal products in something and say that it was vegan. Other than that, I'm the one doing the cooking, so I don't feel the need to disclose all ingredients used in any particular dish.

I have a lot of arugule and I´m doing with it what you do with spinach
: I put some everywhere. I discovered the lettuce, arudule sandwichs a couple of weeks ago. A lot better than just lettuce. I have eaten raw spinach sandwichs and they are awesom. Try them.

I do not see a problem with sneaking in the healthy stuff. If they like it, later on, you can tell them what it was. I am not a big fan of spinach, but can eat it in stuff. I put it in my lasagna all the time. When I make pasta sauce, I normally puree peas or bean and add a cup or so to the sauce to get a few different vitamins in it.

I don't normally try to sneak anything into my kids food. My son is picky about his veggies, so I typically just give him the ones he will eat. He loves broccoli, so that is the main green veggie he gets. My daughter loves all sorts of veggies, so no need to hide them from her.

I am not a big spinach eater myself but put it in spinach pie or on pizza and I'll eat it, I even like creamed spinach. I don't like just the spinach leaves in like salad though. Good thinking with those dishes! Now do you think it'd be okay in desserts? I have an aunt that makes zucchini brownies, I know spinach is different though. Just a thought / tip.

That would not have worked when my kids were little they were fast and knew to nitpick at everything. Thankfully now they are older and eat just about any veggies served to them. I am glad though that your kids are not noticing and benefiting from them.
