We have a drive to get together coats for kids, our weather here can be very cold and wet and many kids are poor or even homeless, so each year we turn our year old coats in to be cleaned and given away. Since I don't have children that are school age I brought a new one. It took me a while to find what I wanted but I finelly did
and it was a beaut. A hoody on the outside and a nice lining on the inside. It felt great. As I put it in the bin I wondered just what a little boy would think who received it. I think I'll write a story about a coat and what happened to it.

Well, that was a really nice thing that you did. Whoever gets that coat will be a lucky and happy child I am sure. I no longer have any of my children's coats here where I live, but I know my ex has them. I also know that she donates their old clothes to charity. She's done that for years. But, if they had a drive here, I would probably do what you did, I would go out and buy a ne one so that some unfortunate child could have a new coat. You are a good person. And if you write the story, you can simply title it "The Lucky Coat."

Kathryn is just getting started with Girl Scouts again this year after taking last year off because there wasn't a troop at her school last year and I didn't have the time to devote to being a leader of the troop. At the first informational meeting, the leader talked about a coat drive that they are doing this year called "One Warm Coat." I would love to be able to donate to this, so I've been going through some of the things that we have at our house. However, I did just recently give away three coats to a friend of mine's children who lost everything except for the clothes on their backs in a house fire.

That is a very good idea. Most of us have coats that we have grown out of or are bored with. A nice warm coat can make a big difference to child in the frezzing winter.
In Adelaide, we don't specificallly collect coats. We do have abig blanket drive every winter though.
What has become popular, is for charities to distribute collection bags, either by mail drop or in the local newspaper. these are large, plastic and bright blue, pink or yellow. They have a message with the name of the charity and a phone number, and the date you must put it our by for collection. I have found this to be very popular. It is mostly clothing collected in these bags.

There are so many homeless kids out there who barely have something to wear. That's so sweet of you to buy a coat and give it to them. In my case, whenever my siblings and I have clothes that we no longer wear, we give it out and donate them to those who really needs them. It's just very heart warming whenever you are able to help other people. The feeling it gives you is priceless.

People here are always complaining of the hot weather but they don't realize how the cold weather can be equally harsh. When you have excess, there is no harm in giving to the needy especially when it can give them comfort and warmth during the cold weather. More blessings will come to you for your generosity.
