We had a terrible accident on the ranch and lost a Llama because of it. We all feel terrible about this and it caused us to review our care of all our animals.
This Llama got her foot caught in a fence and that resulted in unrepairable injury to her foot. The fence has been there for over ten years with no problem and it was
very hard to figure how this happened. We have studied the site and still don't know what happened. Finally we face the fact that Llamas are large animals and when frightened or playing any fence can become a hazard to them. Of course this doesn't help with the sorrow we feel for this loss. We spoke with other Llama owners
and while rare others have had problems, few as drastic as ours. All we can do is morn her. With animals being cared for by humans sometimes there is nothing to change or fix, (we repaired the fence),and we can only accept our limitations.

Whether it is a llama or even a cat or dog that we lose in some kind of an accident, it is never something that is easy on animal owners. There are freak accidents that happen all the time and you are right that after these kinds of accidents happen, there is nothing that we are able to do is to make sure that there was nothing that we could have done to prevent the accident and then mourn the loss of our animal.

How horrible for you! I'm so sorry you lost one of your llamas, they are such beautiful creatures. Take comfort in knowing that you are providing a wonderful home for the rest of your herd and this was just a freak accident.
