What do you do for inexpensive fun?

We are really tight on funds right now. I'm on disability and my boyfriend is doing day labor and gets paid each day that he works. He normally is employed with the Union for Grip work in the movie industry; but the work has been *very* quiet that it has been dam near unbearable.
A lot of times we have to stay home, even if we don't want to. It has become a matter of having to choose "do we go out for one evening" and not have it have consequences in a few days (money is that tight), or do you go out, enjoy ourselves, feel a bit better for getting out of the house? Either way I still feel like there is a consequence.
What do you do that doesn't cost much or anything for relax/social activities?

This afternoon we got an invitation from a friend to go swimming at their resort. So that means we'll get a free ride to and back, plus she will be preparing some food for everyone. so I think this is an inexpensive way of having fun, when you get invited to socials so you get everything for free. LOL

This afternoon I went to a tea with girlfriends! It something I have wanted to do for a long time, so my boyfriend drove me there (only because my car is off the road as I don't have insurance on her right now) and what a great afternoon!

Me and my friends try to find cheap ways to hang out as a group of friends and also have fun at the same time. There has been a few things we've done, we did just rent a random movie from the DVD store and then watched it at a friend's house. We then just ordered a box of pizza too to eat while we enjoyed the movie. Another thing we did was borrow a few bikes from a friend and we rode the bikes in a nearby park. We spent all day just riding our bikes around the massive park. There are many ways to do things cheaply. For a date, you could just go to the beach and have a few fish and chips.

I know the feeling about not having much spare money, because we hardly have any to spare at the moment, so we've had to think about ways to have fun without spending all that much. Do you have children? If you do, then going to a local park can be very fun and your children could very easily spend an entire afternoon there without needing to worry about any money being spent. Simple things like learning a new skill, such as singing, can be relatively inexpensive but also fun if it's something you've never had the chance to do before.

if i don't have money to go out, i stay at home and use the computer all day. for social activities, i would visit a friend's house and have fun. or just walk around town without spending anything on food or at least spend it on cheap food, probably bread.

Hello Sassy... I am sorry, hope everything will be better soon.
I always go walking around the city park in the evening or just enjoying the beautiful view around my place. I bring coffe or tea and biscuit from home and sometime a book.
You two can do that together :)

Personally I can relate with what you are going thru, as this is usually how things seem to be for my husband and I as well. I feel many times that it is rough, and sometimes if we go do something Fun then even if all the Bills are paid many times it could be not having enough money for Groceries that can be the hard one for sure.
When it comes to things that are inexpensive... long walks around a park, or just going somewhere and walking around. If you live somewhere where you can catch a Bus like the Transit buses, take a bus ride to somewhere you can walk around at, and then just spend time together. Or go to your local library and check out a couple of movies or something. There is always something you can do and save some money for later.

We have friends over for potluck style meals...we make something like waffles and they bring syrup, that kind of thing.
(or the reverse - we go to their place)
We have a few movie gift certificates that we received as gifts, so we can go to a movie. If we needed to, we could cash in some points to get movie certificates.
Sometimes we just go for walks.
In the summer, we can get together with friends to play softball or frisbee.

I forgot we have an Entertainment Book with coupons for 2012. We did use one coupon to take us to the movies. It was a pretty good deal, $27 for two people and popcorn and a drink that we split between us.
Speaking of potluck, we are seeing friends tomorrow and we are taking something.
That's a great idea about the softball or frisbee!

We have been on a tight budget the past year and it's been hard. We have done very little. A few things that we have done are going to the park with a sack lunch. The occasional movie night with a Redbox movie and a bowl of popcorn. A few times this past year I have gone by myself to bingo, late night for $10. I have had a few kids over on the weekend for my daughter with a pizza from Little Caesars Pizza, for less than $6 and a bottle of root bear for $.89. My daughter and I have taken a few road trips with dad for the day, and have gone to Pismo Beach and Crescent City. Nice just to get out of town for the day, and it cost's us nothing in gas since dad was going there in his truck (he drives a transport truck). He travels all over the state of California, so we occasionally go with him when he's headed to the coast. We do the occasional burger and fries at In and Out Burger it costs us $15 for all three of us, is we get shakes it's just under $20.
If you have close family or friends you can exchange movies with each other that you already own, go to Wal-Mart and get some candy they actually sell the boxes like the movie theater, they also sell movie popcorn 24 pkg for $5. You could have movie night either together or invite another couple over.
Have a potluck barbecue with family/friends and neighbors. That's always fun and can be done inexpensively. We have the river close by and can go there for the day for $10 to park and bring our own food and drinks, since those are things we have in the house it only costs us for getting in and a bag of ice.
You just have to use your imagination and look around on the internet for cheap deals.

I didn't realize that Walmart now has candies and goodies that are like the movie theatre (which rocks my boyfriend and I are huge M & M Junkies LOL).
I wish we could have friends over for a BBQ/potluck but our place is *very* small 520 square feet to be exact. So we always have to go to someone's house. We can bbq for ourselves outside we just don't have the yardage for social entertaining.
Regarding using the internet for cheap deals, what do you look for?

Wal-Mart has a bunch, I love those jr mints, but they have all kinds and they run a dollar most of the time. The others I can think of off the top of my head are, Good and Plenty, Sugar Babies, Mike and Ikes.
I'm sending you a link through mylot mail. They send me great deals, over the summer I got them for the bowling ally, roller skating rink, pizza, mixers with drinks and hors d'oeuvres for 2 for $25. They have some great discounts.

You can do things like go for a walk at the park or go to a reading in a library. Pick a public place that does activities for free.
I go visit a friend at their home and have coffee or have a friend over for coffee at my house.
Even doing something like volunteering at the SPCA or another organization is getting out of the house.

Today I took my jack russell Blaze to the park and we walked the perimeter. We did 4.8km in 1 hour!! It felt really great too!

Well, I've got kids so one of the main things that I will do with them so that we are able to get out of the house, but not spend money at the same time is to take them to the park. We also have a great walking/biking trail in our area and we will go over there and walk or bike for a few miles.
My husband and I will occasionally decide to go to one of the bars that isn't too far from our house that has karaoke (I love to sing). The one that we go to does free refills on soda so we will each get a soda and sit there and enjoy the atmosphere. If we have the desire for a drink, we will wait until we are at home because it is a lot cheaper to drink at home.

I know money has been tight been for me as well. Have you tried renting movies from red box (I think they are 1.00 per night) and buy some popcorn and have a date night at home. My husband cannot drive that much because of his foot and we end up staying at home quite a bit. It is boring, but I do have my crafts to keep me busy. I make jewelry and paint.

I wish I could tell you something cheap to do that is fun... I don't ever get out .. maybe just to the doctor or once a month to do some grocery shopping. The last time I went to a movie Avatar was on in 3D at the movies. I've not been out since to do anything fun.
It's not even cheap to go to a movie... once you get the popcorn and drinks you've spent $40 or more and 2 movie tickets.

Check with your local Chamber of Commerce, newspaper or city government. There are usually free activities of various kinds. Museums and zoos have free days, sometimes our skating rink has a session for a dollar. You said your home was too small for entertaining so meet your friends at the park for a potluck.
Here we have a walking trail that covers several miles, lots of city parks, some of them with tennis courts.
Join clubs or groups that interest you. We have one for rock hounds, one for CB radios, one for stamp collectors, one to discuss current books and several more, besides ones I don't know about.
Volunteer somewhere for anything from helping fill boxes for food pantries to teaching adults to read. Look around and you might find something right up your alley.

we are definitely in the same boat because we just dont have the money to go out and enjoy ourselves. my advice? make friends with your local library. you can get movies, video games, and of course books there. some libraries even offer free courses on a number of things!

Do you have friends who play cards, invite them over for hands of Bridge, or just play a board game. If you want to go out with just you and the boyfriend, go for hikes around neighborhood parks. Or just walk around your neighborhood, you could even plan to go pick up cans for resale and make a bit of extra change...

I have been there and still am, I will either look on the cable and see if there are any good movies on nad if they are at a later time record them and inviter friends or family over to watch them and yes I go to the dollar store and grab a box of pop corn and some sodas and it is great, There is a site that I just joined maybe you can try it it is quite awesome! It takes awhile to receive your things for free but it is ligit and they always have ways to earn money there but I haven't figured that out yet but I am looking at it as we speak, It is called That Free Thing and I have just requsted some dog food for my nephews dog and some other items and it said it would take 3 to 6 weeks to arrive but I know this site is ligit because I know other people that have used it, it is quite awesome! You and him could go for a walk just around and maybe take some pictures? Walk or even just go window shopping and if you have a dollar store or a goodwill store there things are nice in the Goodwill store we have here and cheap, I love going there! And the dollar tree even garage sales if whether permits. Hope you have a good day.

I do believe that there are a lots of fun in this world and since you wanted for an inexpensive fun, I will share to you what are the most inexpensive fun I knew.
1. Watch a Comedy Movie with your boyfriend and a popcorn as your snack
2. The two of you can play a childish game.
3. Have a dinner date at home.
4. Turn of the light at your home and do some massage to him.
