I made an A and didn't end up as a sculpture in a museum by my art instructor!

So after that first class I told everyone about where the instructor called me out right off the bat, I have to say that the remaining few weren't near as bad. At least not for me. I decided that I wouldn't let her get me down and that I might even have a little fun with her in the process. Provided that she would let me get away with it, of course. Well..throughout the class...if I had questions...I asked them. She even commented once that I was full of questions that night. I just smiled. She would act as though she was forgetting my name but after she looked around the room, she would look right at me and wait until I said it was me. Twice I told her that I had an idea that would help her remember my name but she had to think abstractly. She got a curious look on her face and I told her that if she looked at it abstractly that my name would turn in to an A. She would puff a little but never acted mad or annoyed. On the last class...I thanked her and told her I enjoyed her class and her face softened...for a moment. Very sweetly she said she "would love to keep me"...then she said..."In the corner...you are a bad girl." but then she smiled. She is certainly not an instructor for the faint of heart. I was very happy to get that A. I bet she doesn't give those out very easily. So have you ever had a teacher that you started off on a bad foot with? Have you ever made a grade that you thought you might not make?

Not bad but I have to be careful with beautiful women. They seem to cloud my good judgment.

I don't think there is much of anything that can cloud that wonderful judgement of yours..not even beautiful women.

I remember in high school I would sleep through my first class and thought sure I would fale. It was history and I knew it all pretty well anyway. I studied alittle for the tests and always passed. He gave me a C+ which I thought was mighty good of him. And I always passed English and Literature Classes without even trying. I had help from a boy I liked with my Biolosy class. He was in it with me and just seemed to take me under his wing and help me with disecting and such. I barely passed. When I was in junior and high school I was extremely shy and I am surprised to this day at the attention I got.

Ah, aren't kids something? So innocent and atuned. I was very shy and I really don't know what drew these people to me. My funny clothes maybe.

Or maybe it was that awesome thing that makes you you. Unfortunately I have been one that has always drawn trouble. I could be in the biggest crowd you ever seen and if something was going to happen...it was within a close radius of me. I would never be involved..but it would be close.

You must have had something about you that drew people. My middle daughter has a lot of that. I remember her being small and when we would go to the playground..she was almost like a magnet to the other kids. You could see them making their way closer and closer to her. Once when she was around 4, a little bitty boy came running up to her almost as soon as we got there and handed her a flower that he had picked from the grass. He turned and ran away afterwards but he ended up playing with her for a while before his parents made him leave.

Some people just set up a challenge for you when first you meet. A teacher is often in that position. I had one like that and surprise it was an Art class also. At the end of class she was asking for my painting to display in the College gallery. That was a very big pat on my ego. I don't remember my grade, but I must have passed the class.

I didn't show my art instructor any of my paintings. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't anymore hands on stuff than what there was. We did some charcoal and pointillism but that was pretty much it...oh we did get to sketch her once. That kind of put people on the spot I bet that was encouraging that your teacher wanted to display your work! I would be very flattered. Do you still paint?

Congratulations on the A! I once took a running class for PE when I was in university. Being it just a PE course, I didn't really take it seriously. I skipped a 'few' classes at the beginning of the term, so I missed the part when she told the class that we were only allowed 6 absences before we failed the class. Of course I learned about this just after I've used up my 6th absence. She told me after class one day, and I thought she was a bit b!tchy about it. Anyway, the rest of the term I had to do exceptionally good. I thought she was always looking behind my shoulder, and how my running time was never improving. We had to join a marathon at the end of the term, and I only finished in the middle of a packt. But, I had a high grade! I didn't expect it as I surely thought I'd fail.

Thanks bounce! I would probably be the same way in a PE class. At least until I was put on the spot. I think that the fact she was so rotten when I first walked in made me work harder..lol. Maybe she had that kind of thing planned the whole time..who knows? Thanks for the response and I hope you have been well.

This is a tough question to answer Jen.. In my lifetime I must have had scores of teachers and professors and in answering I would perhaps mix up and say the wrong things. Suffice it to say however that I do not remember anyone treating me the way your Arts teacher treated you not because I was any special but simply because all my teachers and professors were normal!

She was a tough one for sure. The worst was that she kept adding assignments that weren't in the original syllabus, which was already packed. I know I earned it with her though..she didn't make the course easy by any means.

So you are in a way lucky that you got her as you now know more than your class is entitled to learn.

My second year algebra teacher in high school. I thought she was old, I thought she was boring, I drew charactertures of her. Then I listened, and I learned and I really appreciated what I was being taught. At that time schools in that state had mandatory retirement at 65, so she began teaching at the state university. I wish I had had her for many more years, I learned so much. And yes, I made A's in her class as well.

Heyya GardenGerty! Sometimes we really can get alot out of someone that we originally think will be a flop. I have to be honest that I was worried about this one. Thanks for sharing!

hi JnINTn I am glad to hear you did not get turned into a statue by the instructor of the art class. an A thats just great so she must have appreciated you in spite of herself. I have had instructors like that and thought oh myI will be lucky to get a c but got an A then had one instructor' whom gushes at me and yet I could never m ake above a B in his class.I made As in the small literature classes but in the big class on the structure of something or rather I only pulled a C .the topic was slanted for those who were planning on teaching English in high school and I was just planning on writing a novel and publishing it . not teaching. anyway I did graduate with a b so it was not too bad.

She worked my tail off for it, that's for sure. I would be happy graduating with a B too. Especially if all my instructors were like her..lol. I think that larger classes can be a lot tougher than smaller ones. They were saying on TV the other night that there was no real connection in performance and class sizes but I think that's a crock. I have always done better in a more personable environment. I was glad you didn't have to come and comb the museums for me too...LOL..I don't know how long someone will last in paper mache or bronze. Thanks for responding!

Hi JenInTN Sorry that all this happened with you dear... never mind, I know those things at this moment might look a big thing but I am sure you realize and see that this is a short while thing.... And I am quite sure you will get over this... Now that the thing is over and damage done with, I believe is the right time to send her some creepy gifts... the Ants! Did you send them to her already?

I'm ok. I'm stronger than I look. My instructor found that out pretty quick too. I am saving the creepy gift for one that my efforts won't work on. She might get a little something though just because I'm thinking of her.

hello! While reading your post, several teachers of mine popped into my mind. But I will tell you about this particular Math teacher I had when I was in first year. Our teacher is already an old lady so maybe that's why she acted that way. Anyways, nobody in class likes her. She was so strict and she mispronounced our names. She kept on calling me in either a wrong name or a mispronounced name. Every word that comes out of her mouth is either about the lesson or is a comment about how bad our class was because nobody seems to understand her. Anyways, I started having low grades during the first two quarters. But since I need to get an A to pass the subject, I strove hard. I began perfecting our quizzes and I started participating in class that finally I garnered an A-. At the end of the course, she seemed to remember me and calls my name correctly. It is happening up until now. :D

That's great! I did strive very hard to complete her tasks and sometimes she give us those that were almost impossible to complete in the allotted time. Sometimes I think they just get an idea about people before they actually give them a chance. I am glad that I was able to work on her a bit and not get in too much trouble doing it...lol Thanks for the response and welcome to myLot!!!
