Actually, I have been all along and didn't know it.
My mother has been going through some old papers her sisters left behind and found a document that shows my twice great-grandfather emigrated from Caricknamanna, County Donegal,...

I have this big brown manila envelope mailed to me in 1999 by my oldest sister. In it is a family history going back to the Revolutionary War. My great great-grandfather, on my father’s side, came to the US from Ireland “long...

The people in the photo are my grandparents (the two older people obviously) with my Mum and Dad on the left and Dad’s brother and his wife on the right. As you might have guessed, this was taken in the days when you didn’t smile...

A few weeks ago I mailed in my DNA sample to Ancestry.com and just got the results.
I'm 55% England and northwestern Europe, 31% Scotland, and five other regions including Ireland.

Another touchy subject. Now I've heard that, recently, they don't think it is relevant to teach it anymore. What will be the outcome of all that ? We all have different point of view on those things too. But my question...

Last Christmas, my husband and I sent DNA samples to Ancestry. com. Periodically during the past year, we received messages from Ancestry that they had discovered a possible relative. In every case, it was someone we already knew...

Last Christmas, my husband and I ordered DNA kits from Ancestry.com. This week, a young woman contacted me through Ancestry and said that we were distantly related.
The young woman put me in touch with her aunt, who is about ten...

I have talked about this before, but I've done a bit more digging. Not a lot more, mind, but enough to get a better idea of what that ancestor from long ago did.
He appears to have been a very opinionated man, but his opinions...

For Christmas, my husband and I bought ourselves DNA testing from Ancestry.com. Yesterday, we received our results, and they were not quite what I expected.
I was always told that my father was French-German. My mother believed...

turkey and dressing while the desserts flow.
But do you remember when and where it began?
In 1621 on Wampanoag Indian land.
Those of the Mayflower were starving to death,
the Plymouth...

I have information going back a few generations, as does Anne, but what happened before that? Who were those people and where did they live? I was tempted to order the DNA kit from Ancestry, but at $99, it gave me pause.
Once in...

Just a friendly little note to those who are still considering taking the test... AncestryDNA is now $79.99 and that price is only good until next Wednesday... It will then return to $99.99.
As an aside...

If you've already taken a DNA test with AncestryDNA (Ancestry.com) then you should have gotten an email about Genetic Communities. Log in to your DNA results and it will show you "Genetic Communities".
