A museum dedicated to hats might strike most people as rather dull, but the Hatworks has a lot of very interesting and genuinely educational stuff to see.
Stockport, Cheshire, in the UK was once a central operator in the hat...

I am always thrilled to come across woodland deer and deer in public parks. Sometimes they can be seen in the distance but getting close enough to get photographs is tricky as they retreat and avoid contact.
I remember a school...

I always loved the Peanuts strips I read in syndication and in various anthology collections. This collection is part of the most comprehensive set of all, and from the strip at its height of inventiveness and originality.

Nothing to do with food and catering, Bakers is a family name in this case. A pub has existed on this site since at least the 1770’s though the original inn was called The George And Dragon, and twice the size of the 19th century...

This beautiful sign depicts a mansion-like country house which is not surprising given that it adorns what was just such a property and proves to be a very good likeness of the house, now serving both a public bar and as the 19th...

One of the funniest signs I have seen in my quest. Many sports related pubs have a bias for one sport or another, with football pubs dominating the scene. Hyde’s Sportsman in Tameside, Cheshire, wants to play every sport at once,...

An unusual site I found on a photo walk is this pair of metal geese in the Altrincham, Cheshire district known appropriately as Goose Green. They remind me of the iron Chicken in The Clangers cartoons on children’s TV.
The name...

There are quite a few pubs called The Swan With Two ‘Necks’, suggesting a mutant swan caught up in a nuclear waste leak, but all such pubs actually get the name slightly wrong as the correct word is ‘Nicks’ not necks. The pub at...

A tall war memorial that looks as if it has been recently cleaned with a rather foamy looking stone. What I dislike and don’t understand is the ankle high chain fence round its base. I appreciate putting fences round to deter...

An iron carving sign with some artistry, depicting George lancing an endangered species to death to get himself a sainthood. It is a beautiful work of craftsmanship on a sign for a pub closed for many years but recently...

Not quite sure why Hyde in Tameside / Cheshire has a large statue of a sea-lion outside the magnificent Town Hall building. It is quite striking. At least they haven't carved a beach-ball to balance on its nose.
