I don't really think landlines are important anymore since mobiles are rampant. Everyone has a cellphone (well most do) and even business have their own cellphone number. But then again, there are advantages of having landlines...

Cell phones are more convenient for use when we're out of our houses but I don't understand why so many people have stopped using regular landline phones.
