Last year we skipped it, although I don't remember why. Maybe the season just started a bit late and we didn't feel like it. But this year, the mulching needed a refresh, and they had it on sale at Menard's after the 11% rebate...

I have been doing quite a lot of pruning of shrubs in the garden, and had collected up a heap of branches. They were all piled up in front of our garage waiting for my partner to run them all through the shredder. I use all the...

Until recently I didn’t even know what mulching really meant. I remember as a child reading the Magic Roundabout stories, in which Mr McHenry was always out and about with his wheelbarrow, “mulching a few plants” – although it...

But I finished spreading mulch around the base of my red bud tree. Some years ago we put down weed barrier with mulch on top but since then the barrier has been getting blown about and the mulch didn't look good either.
I started...

Unless it stops raining soon enough and dries out a bit. We have thunderstorms headed out way with the possibility of hail and heavy winds.
Yesterday I did a smidgeon of hoeing in the front yard and pulled weeds and put some...

It's gorgeous outside being about 79 degrees F. My kind of weather. Before I weeded I brought up from the basement cupboards that were removed years ago to make way for our first dishwasher. Those went into a large garbage bin...

Out this morning running a few errands. Stopped at the hardware and co-op to pick up mulch and a few other things.
Cloudy day. Maybe rain later.
Headed home soon. Got everything done. Everyone had their masks on.
Starting out...

Having six pine trees pays off this time of year. The pine straw that falls eventually turns brown. This can be put around plants and flowers in the garden. Saves on having to buy mulch. This will hopefully protect them from the...

We just fixed a muddy mess in our back yard (off our bakc porch). Finished the project yesterday in fact.
Well finished the digging out and laying down of mulch part.
Now i am thinking either:
a flower edge and paving stones
or...

The morning glories were "done" for the most part for quite a while--they still had a few flowers on them--maybe that's part of the reason why I didn't put more importance in pulling them up.
Any way, it's done now, and most of...

I am pleased to work with several knowledgeable friends in the community garden. This photo shows part of the work we did yesterday.
One woman watered almost everything, for four hours. Five more of us did the mulching of the...

We got hit with a hard freeze here a couple of nights ago, right after the first very light frost. Needless to say, everything got frozen. I did manage to save one cherry tomato that was in a pot, but that's all. I thought some of...

Kind of, sort of here in Minnesota. Still chilly but not too bad. This is the latest start for my flower beds and gardening ever. I laid down 10 bags of mulch and need about 15 more bags yet it seems. The area in this photo has...
