My watercolor

My watercolor - I painted it when I was about 15-16

I started a discussion about the death of a famous artist yesterday. Well, I mentioned that I had done some art, so I wanted to share the picture I painted in high school. It is a watercolor. I'm pretty proud of it, but since I'm taking this with my phone and the glass reflects it could be a better photo.

Well, so far I've only sold a couple of peices, and that was to a friend of my mom's. Now this woman collected art, but she had them in her guest room, not on her "gallery" wall. Still I felt very honored.

Well, I don't know how long they hung, I know they hung for several years. I know they aren't hanging now, she passed away in 07 and her husband has moved. And I didn't think they were that special, but she insisted I sell them (and they were about the best I had done at that point except for one that got taken by the student teacher and went back to her school for display.)

Well...just because they aren't on her gallery wall doesn't make them less. She liked them enough to buy them and has hung them in her house..for her guests to admire at that. I bet you haven't marketed much of your stuff either. If you did I bet it would be more than just a couple you sold.

Thanks. I had a friend who was challenged by a straight line, but she could appreciate it. I have a painting by her father hanging in my front room where I can see it.

The sad thing is that I think I'm a better writer than artist.

I have artwork by two aunts-in-law who were very talented. My sister was pretty good, as well as my brother. My artistic side comes with dance and decorating, not art. LOL

I wish I had had art in school. It is a good memory to have this picture, though.

I did enjoy art, I was probably happier doing art than anything else. Then when I was a senior I did a handicrafts class that I just LOVED!

That's a truly beautiful painting and I see BarbaraPrz beat me to it by saying it has an "oriental" feel to it. Mmmm..ever thinking of painting kitties? LOL. I actually have a watercolor painting of my crystal gazing black kitty...one of these days I'll see if I can scan it.

I can do horses, but cats are a whole other matter. I remember when my neice was about 7 she drew a horse that was kind of a big "U" for the face. I then drew her a picture and she said she was going to keep it so she could use it for practice. No idea how long that lasted. Never seen any art of any kind from the child since. Mind you, she's 23 now....

Actually, painting is easier than drawing, you can be more general and still have something beautiful.

No, I don't get to paint much these days, tho I have a goal to get back to doing so, now its a matter of finding that darn watercolor paper again! I'm probably better at admiring other's work than the actual painting.

Yes I remember your discussion on Andrew Wyeth. I think I responded. You have talent my friend. I enjoy painting myself, but I find watercolor to be frustrating. Thanks for sharing this lovely picture with us. You should be very proud of it.

Thanks, I realize I've got some talent. I actually took a little summer class in art and, more than anything else, it helped me really appreciate other's work in watercolor. Back when my eyesight was better, I used to get right up on them to see the way they layered the colors on the paper. I was always impressed.

I wish I could do water colors but I look at a blank sheet of paper or canvas and that is all I see is a blank canvas. I will remark on your photo when I see it.

Honestly, that's all I see, but then I start adding colors... Sometimes I decide what I want it to be, I did a glass print in like 7th or 8th grade for a student teacher that was pretty awesome and I did do that, decided what I wanted then tried to do it, came really close too. I think Maggiepie has first dibs on the painting.

I tried the piano, and I just have no musical talent. I'm glad you like it. You have to know that my mom took care of it for me for several years until I could get it framed.

I like it very much ElicBxn. The colors are very soft and I tend to be attracted to pictures of that sort. I took six years of Art in school so I guess that's why I can appreciate your painting. For only being 15/16, great job! I hope you do get a chance to re-find your artistic ability again so you can create more. Hey, who know's, maybe sell a few. Wouldn't that be great?

Thanks. I tend to find the "art" need is satisfied in my crafting. I do want to get back to painting, but I need to get time and space (space more than time really) and hope to get some pictures done.

I love to craft but haven't had much time lately, or lack of enthusiasm. I gotta get with it already. The art in school I think helps you be much more creative and imaginative later in life. At least it does for me. I hope you can find a little space for yourself to keep up your paintings. It really would be a shame to waste your ability and talent. Shame on me too.

It's beautiful. I wish I could paint that good. I love art but I don't think that I'm very good. Other people tell me that I am but whatever, they have to say things like that they're my friends and family.

Well, in the earlier grades I think they grade more on willingness to do the work, but at some point (genearlly by middle school) they start grading on your work too.

I guess, if that's how you judge if it's good or not, Then I'm a pretty good artist. I always got A's in art from Kindergarten to 12th.
