I sent my husband to go after a load of Easter eggs today, i told him what sort to get and he came home with all the ones i asked for, as well as one each for us.He was gob smacked at some of the prices that they were charging for them, as the eggs inside the box were really, really small.Another rip off paid for, i wanted all the eggs to have cups with them and they were the cheapest as well, also you are paying for the brand and decorated box that they are in.

Somehow it does not surprise me that the holiday items get more and more expensive these days. Sure they do decorate the boxes for a fraction of a penny and do so to make it look like it is higher cost. Gee I did not realize eggs were getting expensive though, but then so is the milk these days. What would our ancestors say to the high prices today as compared to when they thought things were expensive back then.

Last week eggs were on sale for nintey nine cents a dozen, but I had just bought three dozen. I eat quite a few eggs. I like to hard boil a bunch and make egg salad and potato salad, etc. I can remember when 99 cent would have been expensive though.

The cheapest I have seen them around here is $1.49 and that when they are regularly $1.99. Perhaps someday they will be $3 - $4 dollars and feel like I use to get a bargain. lol

If I do any eggs at all they will probably just be plastic. No young ones here to celebrate with. I love the fact the eggs in the grocery store go on special though and I really enjoy boiling them up to eat. We have too many diabetics in our extended family and I am going to avoid the candy as much as I can this year. I got sick on it last year.

I so miss the days when I use to be the super kid with my kids and colored so many in so many different colors and funnies. The good ole days. But same here I love eggs in almost anything. I especially like them hard boiled but also easy over with white rice. Same here not much candy for me this year.

Well, hubby did good then, huh? Glad to hear that. The prices on stuff is rediculous. We don't have any kids that are at an age to want such things so I didn't get any this year. My grandson is eight and my great grandson is nine months so maybe in another year or so.

I do not know if you are speaking of candy eggs or plastic and I can say it doesn't even matter. Both have gone up in price and down in quality. We do not purchase Holiday candies we make but even the supplies to do so have gone up so much in price that we had to cut out a few favorites to make do. As for the plastic eggs one can fill i will not pay that sorta price for plastic we will use once a year. absurd.

Easter is coming? I've always thought easter is somewhere near christmas. Anyway, i like easter eggs because of the colors and designs on them. They are so cute, adorable, that i can't bear to eat them. It's nice as a display especially given as a gift on that particular day. Don't blame your husband for the ripped off pricing, it's common to see that happening, as always.

I never buy the easter eggs that come in an eggshaped box. They are a ripoff as well as poor quality depending on what brand you buy. I buy the little solid milk chocolate eggs that come in small net bags and then I buy cheap baskets at the dollar store and green fake paper grass. I decorate these baskets for my family and fill them with good quality items. I decorate real eggs by dying them in natural dyes such as beet juice and boiled onion skins. Also we can get little sleeves that you slip on the eggs when you boil them. There are beautiful motives to be had. Furthermore I buy or bake little eater yeast breads to put in the basket. The kids love it.

We usually boil our own eggs and dye them right here at home. I know groceries sure are outragious these days here too though. Everything seems to be so expensive and they really jack the prices up around the holidays because they know people want the items and will pay the price to get them.

YEah, when it comes to the right occasion, those so called best gifts often had a high price tagged to them. We are not only paying for the actual thing, but all the accessories that comes along with it, even though we dun intent to use them at all.. lol =D It's the package we are paying for, rather than the thing we intended to buy. As such, buying last minute gifts is something i will never do.. haha

Are you talking about real eggs or the chocolate eggs? It's a little too early for me to be buying Easter things. I like to purchase those things somewhat closer to Easter day. I make my own dyed eggs (the real ones). Have also seen a few recipes on the web for the chocolate and candy eggs but in the long run, it's cheaper to just get the commercial ones.

Hi Jugsjugs, I am from India and live in Hindu dominated area so we dont know what easter is apart from that it is holiday for some people. Also we get only one kind of eggs here, that is Hen's eggs. We dont get duck eggs or any other eggs so you are lucky you got the choices to get with cups or anything with them. About prices of eggs they have gone up many folded in last one year or so. Now they cost about 1$ a dozen, when it was about 35 to 40 cents a year or so ago.

Well, first of all, you sent your husband???? lol I agree that the prices are crazy and I also agree that we are paying for the boxes, pretty frills etc and etc. I hope that you can figure something out before Easter. LOL Have a great holiday.

When the Easter candy first started to be released this year, I was shocked at some of the prices that I would see for that candy. However, I've observed that as Easter is drawing closer, the prices of the candy is going down a little bit as well. Of course, candy for Easter for our children this year is not one of those things that is a priority for us. Instead, this year we are going to be filling their Easter baskets mostly with little toys and trinkets because I'm trying to encourage them to have a healthier lifestyle.

One trick is to celebrate Easter a week late, and buy the stuff on sale, or buy egg decorating kits for next year, the year before. The second option is what Mom used to do, so we would never have to pay full price for Easter stuff.

I refuse to pay extra for branded items of any kind. I think it's a rip-off. I will buy branded Easter eggs when they are marked down but never full price. One of our discount stores sells cheap bunnies that are a good size made from proper yummy chocolate (as opposed to compound chocolate). They are even cheaper after next week so the temptation to buy a load is strong.

Can't figure out here, whether I am off track or not? I thought you were referring to packaged decorated Eggs..and it seems most of the population responding is about fresh eggs? IF...by chance, you were referring to Chocolate (decorated)Easter Eggs...then be prepared...anything CHOCOLATE is going to climb exponentially in price! The Ivory Coast has been the largest supplier in the world of Chocolate..and due to the war in that region...ALL Chocolate from that area is embargo'd! All the big factories have just reported an increase (like Hershey's)as the demand now cannot be met, by all the other smaller suppliers in the world! In just over two years Chocolate has gone from $1000 a U.S. tonne to over $4000...so like fuel, it will be a commodity only for the rich! Like it used to be! AND...Eggs, here if bought Organic..are, (are you ready)..$6.50 a dozen! OWCH..makes me love my chickens more, everyday!

Oh you are so lucky to have those chickens. I cannot afford the organic ones for $ 6.50. I buy the ones for $ 3.50. But I think you are right the question at hand was asking about chocolate eggs. And yes, maybe we are going back to feudal times when chocolate was only permitted for the aristocracy because it was so expensive.

Lindalinda...on a daily basis, I thank my "gurls".."my hens" for their contribution to my diet...it is such a treat to need an egg or two, and NOT a trip to the store..but a short walk to the Chicken House produces what I need! They truly are a delight...and I love their curosity about life their inquisitiveness, talkativeness...and watching them forage can be a very relaxing moment in time...I initially tried NOT to name them, as that creates such a bond..but there is such distinct personalities..you guessed it..all have names! Funny, I am NOT a Chocoholic, but the industry..GROWING, if find very intriguing and it is such a labour intensive process, that it is becoming a dying art! AND yes, it will ONLY be included in the diets of the rich, soon!

everything is just expensive when a big ceremony comes. in my place, the price will rise every Christmas, lebaran, and New year, even we had try to manage the money and buy the cheapest one, we just can't avoid to spend more money than usually
