when people put down the old black and white films. They are some the true great films. In the 30's up until the 50's really produced some great movies. I love a good holiday movie and the old ones are the greatest. Here are four that might show you what true movie making was all about: Christmas in Connecticut(1945)- This one has Barbara Stanwyck in it with Dennis Morgan who is so handsome, and, his smile could melt butter. Not a favorite but he is definitely okay. The story is a farce about food columnist who lies about being a great cook and living in the country. She has to a hustle to cover her lie when a boss and returning soldier invite themselves to her home for a down home traditional Christmas. It Happened on 5th Avenue(1947)- Quite a sleeper! I hadn't seen this one until last year. It is very endearing and has some great life lessons in it. It is the story of a homeless New Yorker who annually moves into a house and brings some friends he meets along the way to live with him. It has Charlie Ruggles, Dan DeFor, and Gale Storm in it. The Bishop's Wife(1947)- Cary Grant as an angel. Loretta Young as the bishop's wife and David Kniven as the bishop. Funny, touching and sweet this film is one I have to see each and every year. It is so enchanting. Story is of a bishop trying to get a beautiful church built and an angel who comes to help. Old Classic-(30's or 40's) Try a old classic like A Christmas Carol or Scrooge. Try an older version that is more realistic than the newer versions.

People tend to frown on such films due to the level of technology that is now noticeable. Nevertheless, many of those films had far better written scripts and the acting was more important.

I agree , old black and white films are great. One of the best is "Its A Wonderful Life" starring James Stewart. That is such a good Christmas Classic. Also, one that is a great mystery/romance is "Notorious" starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. Have you heard of it? Also another great one with romance is "Casablanca" with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

I don't always watch black and white films but when I do it's "And Then There Were None." Seriously though, I don't particular seek the black and white films for entertainment but I don't put them down either. I used to watch the TCM channel quite a lot. (Turner Classic Movies) but my favorite movie from the "black and white era" is "And Then There Were None."

@celticeagle I've not many to compare it to as I haven't watched a black and white film in quite sometime. I do enjoy the quiet films from time to time as well, I find them entertaining because you are forced to feel the emotions a bit deeper than a scripted film.
