Bring out your limericks!

I started a discussion about writing a limerick and some wonderful rhyme came oozing out of the woodwork. Eventually they were getting lost in the comments so I thought I'd start a new discussion. According to Your Dictionary.com, 'a limerick is a humorous poem consisting of five lines. The first, second, and fifth lines must have seven to ten syllables while rhyming and having the same verbal rhythm. The third and fourth lines only have to have five to seven syllables, and have to rhyme with each other and have the same rhythm'. Many limericks are obscene or lewd and by rights they should be funny. But on MyLot it's great that so many people are having a go and finding out what fun it is to write limericks. @jaboUK and @Koalemos have written limericks for quite some time and now other MyLotters have joined in. Of course, any comment or response is welcome but in case you're wondering about the 'rules' for limericks I thought I'd give the information above. Sometimes a limerick only 'scans' well if read with emphasis on particular syllables. I hope by writing this down Others will now go to town And contribute a rhyme Some will be sublime While others might cause a frown. So come on everyone - let's have 'em!

Since you've asked us to contribute, I've decided not to stay mute, If people join in And give us a grin Then others may soon follow suit.

Now Barry's here in masquerade, And this new persona he's made, He's here on a whim But we know it's him, We've seen through his ruse, I'm afraid.

It helps, Vandana, if you open up a rhyming dictionary like rhymezone.com. I don't take time to count my syllables, maybe one day I will.

Is English your first language? It could be difficult if it isn't. And I found it very hard at the start too.

That is not a stupid answer. I just thought starting a new post would stop some great limericks getting lost.

As I said, it's too hard for a non English speaking to write limericks, counting the syllables in English is confusing. I will not join the limericks group.

I can understand that it would be hard for a non-English speaker. And limericks tend to use some funny abbreviations or slang to make the rhyming work.

What fun! I cannot remember the last time I wrote a limerick. I will have to see if I can come up with something. Meanwhile, I am enjoying writing everyone else's!

They are all so clever. And they seem to be turning them out every few minutes. They do seem to get a bit easier with each one you do. I'll look forward to yours.
