Playing an outdoor gig in the 45 degree cold

My friends and I played an outdoor music gig today at a local Farmer's Market. The temperature was 45 degrees out when we started, but it warmed up as the morning progressed. I think it was in the 50s by the time we were done. This band is called the Diablo Rhythm Wranglers, and we do a lot of Western swing, as well as some folk and Grateful Dead. I was worried that the cold would make it hard to play, but it really wasn't that bad. I bundled up and wore a hat. I played mostly bass today, and a bit of guitar and mandolin. The folks listening were nice. They tend to put a dollar in their kids' hand (usually a 3- or 4-year-old) and send them up to the tip jar. We made $77 in tips, and we're putting it toward recording a demo CD to get future gigs.

@fishtiger58 It did help. My body wasn't cold during the gig, but my fingers were.

@TheHorse I always think these friends really last forever. My uncle has his band as well. When he was busy working, he might not have much time to play music with them. Now that he's retired, they grouped together again, met weekly and played music again. I think it's really nice for all of them.

Ouch! That must be tough on everyone, especially the musicians! (Unlike the Homer & Jethro joke, you can't put gloves on while you're playing!

I knew you said you were in a band, but I usually ignore posts about music as I don't really listen to it. Well, I say that, but have the radio in the car set to a radio station most of the time, although it really isn't unusual for me to flip the radio between stations and just have static, either.
I do hope you get enough money for the recording very quickly, pony.
At least you can find places to play, pony. Around here I have never seen any of the buskers like used to come here to play on street corners.
While busking itself is not illegal, there are so many laws and things that must be watched for, the ones who used to busk here left and made city council happy by vowing not to return.
It can be rather difficult for beginning bands to get booked anywhere at all.

We used to busk when I was in Grad School in Santa Barbara. That's how I discovered Thai food. We're take out $120 or so and visit a local Thai restaurant on Milpas street. I think they've made it harder on buskers since those days.

When you said you played a gig in the cold, I did not know you meant 45 degree weather. I remember that chill from VA. That is cold. I would have had frost bite. LOL I wish you the best with the demo. I think it's great you are able to do that.

Sounds like fun even if it was a bit cold

We're reaching low 40s temperature here too, but it's Celsius... so it's not really a good idea to stay outside too long specially without protection...
