Am I stoned? Meditating? Or thinking?

I've attached a picture of a KLH vintage speaker I'm working on. The speaker had obviously been dropped on a corner, and that corner was totally gone. Before I started working on that corner, I just sat and stared at it for what must have been five minutes. Someone looking at me (nobody was) would have wondered what the heck I was doing. Actually, I was visualizing all the different ways I could build up the corner before putting some fresh veneer on top. What I decided on was some wood filler, then some random small pieces of veneer glued in on top of the dried wood filler, and then more wood filler. Finally, I'd sand the surface at a slight angle, and then glue in the fresh veneer, sanding it down flush with the rest of the surface. This is what it looked like as of last night. How well I did won't be decided until I oil the surface up. Do you spend time staring at something, or staring off into space, mentally drawing up plans before you begin a project or errand run?

Looks like you did a pretty good job. Post when you are done I would be interested to see how it turned out.

@mommaj I have to show my husband how Horse built up that corner and how he did it. @TheHorse I don't know much about wood working but I know enough to know that what you did there is pretty darn great.

Good job! I think God may do that with us at times. Yes, I do and I have even zoned out and was oblivious to what was happening in the immediate surroundings. That may not be safe but it happens on occasion.

Well, it looks good so far! I have "brain fart" moments all the time. It kind of goes with the fibromyalgia, unfortunately... leaves me standing around staring into space wondering WTF I was doing a lot more than I'd like. At least my supervisor at work is understanding!

An understanding supervisor is a good thing. I've read about fibromyalgia. It doesn't sounds like fun.

@TheHorse It wasn't, but now that I've learned how to listen to the cues my body gives me and compensate, I'm having a lot more good days than bad ones. The medication I have for it is working pretty well, too, although it's not perfect.

@yukimori If you don't mind my asking, what medication is it? I'd like to research it.

While I've done that before, not so much recently. Course I don't plan projects of that type much anymore. The one thing we need to do soon is powerwash our ramp/porch and then stain it. It was put in eight years ago, and still hasn't been done. Mostly that is due to lack of funds and manpower to do the work for us.

@TheHorse I could powerwash it, but I'd probably let one of our employees do the work if they seem capable. We'd pay them to do that along with staining it probably. I'd maybe do some of the staining/painting, but wouldn't have much enough free time to do it all myself.

I'm finishing it up right now. It's going to look OK. I'll take an "after" picture. but is it worthy of its own post? I'll have to think of something interesting to talk about.

I often think it over before figuring where to go first when errand running. ANd, I do the same when constructing a post or writing an article. Calculate it in my mind first.

I do. And honestly, every time you come up with some post like this, I keep wondering somethings...like is it possible to have baked mud box instead of wooden box? Our folks use dried pumpkin shells instead of wood. Those would serve well as small amplifiers may be...just wonder... http://prrems.com/blog/rebirth-of-a-pumpkin/

Not exactly, but I do a lot of online writing here and searching on my search engines while I decide what, when and how I want to proceed with an idea. I like letting my mind wander, then I'll see something online or TV that'll give me the nudge I need to actually start the project. I have a lazy tendency so it isn't unusual for it to take a couple days to get off my lazy a$$.

Not normally, no. I am normally thinking about what I will be working on as I fill out paperwork for something else. I seem to have a three track mind. I can be thinking about one thing, working on something else and also doing math or setting up a different problem in my mind all at the same time. I used to crochet, read a book and watch television at the same time. It drove my dad nuts! He would always yell at me (or mom, if he saw her doing the same thing) that we could only do one thing at a time and he wanted us to stop doing everything else and just do one of the three while he could see us! LOL!

I like multi-tasking, I do less of it today than in the past but it is still essential to success.

I am not good at working with my hands. I do imagine in my mind what a garden project might look like. For sure I meditate as I burrow into writing a short story.

@TheHorse A row garden only requires patience and perserverance. A garden that has form and depth requires thought and vision. Poetry mostly happens with me. The short story- for me anyway- takes more depth and the ability to run a longer track.

I'm not really a perfectionist. My solution when it comes to repairs is usually the quick and dirty, make do with what you've got approach.

I sometimes do that around the house. Not with woodworking stuff, though.
