Reasons why you may not be getting a lot of likes or responses at myLot

United States

If you feel that your discussions are not getting very many likes or responses, there could be a few reasons such as: * Your topics are not interesting to the majority of people, or * You are posting too many discussions in a short period of time. When one person posts several discussions in quick succession readers have to make the choice to either: * Read them all, or * Read one and then move on to read discussions from other members. Members like to 'share the wealth' so to speak. Give everyone a chance to read your discussion and participate in it. Put some time between postings. It has been proven several times that it only takes one interesting discussion to garner more likes and comments than it does posting a handful in a row. If you are into 'numbers' then less posting and more interaction is the way to go.

@Daljinder No, he is still running, we do not know if he was able to cross the border and he is now in Italy, or if he is still around. This is annoying.

@LadyDuck, you would probably win the blue ribbon for interaction at myLot! I know I can always count on you to respond and keep the conversation going. thank you for that.

I sometimes think this is the hardest lesson for new members to learn. So many seem determined to submit lots of posts within a short time frame. Like JJ, seeing a lot of new posts by one person tends to make me bypass the lot.

@AbbyGreenhill You are right as it doesn't look real. I have a hard time thinking of things to write and then other times I have a lot to say and I just write them down to do at a later time. It takes so much time to reply correctly and I would rather answer people.

The multiple discussion syndrome often seems very popular with new members, but fortunately the novelty soon wears off.

Two weeks or so ago I posted three in one day. never again. Ilike to comment back over and over again to whoever gets involved in my posts or in my response box on posts by others. That takes time. A topic might be interesting but it only becomes an interesting discussion if whoever started it gets back to those wo participate. That is impossible if we start loads one after the other. I haven't started any at all yet this month but I am still busy on the old ones and earningv too.

@amadeo I'm certainly no judge of what's boring or not as we all find different stuff interesting. Personally I find many things interesting but the most important thing to me is discussing things with the starter. If they don't come back toanyone then eventually people won't want to go on their discussions.

I've posted way more discussions in the past 2 weeks than I normally would...at least 3 Even keeping up decently with 3 was a bit hard when you go away for a day or 2 and then you come back to 100 notifications

It has to do with timing as well. Some people start a discussion when Asians are just logging out, and other parts of the world have not login in.

This issue has been brought up many times in that even if the posts are there for 24 hours no one has the patience to look through the entire list. Invariably what is posted by Asians is always at the bottom. I am no longer going to explain this, but move on.

@allknowing But if you are being followed then your followers would be notified of your posts and go look for them or know to go looking. This post is aimed at the people who do what I described and the new people coming in.

I am with @JJ, in thinking that I will pass up every discussion if someone is too prolific. I admit, I skip things that are not interesting to me, but I try to have a wide variety of interests. I think perhaps it also depends on how well you are liked or how much you are loathed. Sometimes people who are loathed or discussions that are provoking get a large response.

I find some of my discussions get a lot of inteaction and others get very little, it is amazing to me because the ones I think will get a lot of interaction don't and the ones I am not sure of do get a lot of interaction.

Isn't that always the way - I think it depends on many factors such as the mood of those reading, what people are looking for one day they might not care about the next day.

@akalinus The rule that I was always taught was to write about what you know first. I guess there are lots of 'rules' for writing. Things change here daily what is popular.

I agree. I have found that things that interest me get a big ho hum from the mylot community. Other things that I don't find as interesting get a lot more reaction. It is all about finding out what the people here like to read about and react to. The primary rule of writing is to write for your audience.

This is what i ususally do. I dont post too many discussions here. I just post one and then make comments on others discussions. But my discussions dont receive many likes and comments this is probably because my topics are not interesting enough. But it does not bother me.

Yeah, my discussions get a decent amount of likes and responses because it takes me forever to post a new one. I even get the same person responding twice to the same discussion sometimes as they either forgot they've been there few days back or because they could not see any newer one...

@DaddyEvil You're right... Although I've also received identical general responses from the same members showing they forgot they've said it before. But I don't mind at all; besides, it's not really they're fault - I appreciate their efforts to come to my discussions at all and it's my fault not having a newer one for them to respond to...

As someone said below about posting times I don't think it matters much. Quite often I come back and a discussion has picked up a few responses from countries out of sync with my sleeping habits. I think a big thing is people like responding to those that they know will get back to them rather than just ignoring their responses.

I always look for subjects that are timely or interesting. I also like to understand what the writer is talking about. There are some discussions that leave me wondering what the heck that was all about. It is a mystery what to write that will catch the fancy of other mylotters. People are interested in their money and their wellbeing. Outside of that, who knows?
