MyLot discussions that will draw attention: Controversial Issues

United States
February 7, 2016 11:05am CST
People are always asking what topics get a lot of views at myLot. Several things have already been mentioned regarding how to get attention such as the title and that beginning sentence. You also need a hot topic. There is something that will get the fingers flying across the keyboards and that is controversial issues, or anything that is deemed controversial. While some may or may not think these issues are controversial they are: * Religion * Politics * Plural Marriage * Abortion * Pornography * Breast Feeding in Public * Adoption * Home Schooling * Drugs * Guns/Hunting I am sure you can probably name a few more, but these are just off the top of my head.

Good tips. I'm doing some posts on politics and getting some decent response, considering I just joined myLot last week. As I really don't like a lot of controversy, I'm trying to keep my politics posts non-controversial and unbiased and more just observation and friendly commentary.

Anything political can cause controversy I think - hair, included.

@AbbyGreenhill You are right. Even though I try to keep bias and controversy out of my posts, I do get many controversial comments back!

Those are all very controversial issues and I wouldn't touch them here personally.

I'll talk about plural marriage and a few other, but no religion at all.

@AbbyGreenhill Religion is one area I will not even go near! To me, that topic is best left alone. It's already caused too many problems in this world!

These are all good controversial subjects but sometimes something very 'ordinary' seems to strike a spark and the comments come pouring in. It's hard to judge sometimes.

And it depends who happens to read that discussion and what day it is and so many factors.

@AbbyGreenhill I think right now the most controversial subject is probably politics. It seems everywhere I go people are talking about the presidential race.

I avoid it or ignore it. FB is loaded with it, but I skim right over it.

@AbbyGreenhill I do ignore it. I will not get pulled into an argument with anyone about it. I do however think it's a great controversial subject to obtain a lot of traffic.

They do draw a bit of attention but rarely get as many responses as more light topics. Many here steer well clear of the heavy stuff.

I have come to realize that news isn't big here unless it deals with a child being kidnapped or something.. So that leaves out a lot of topics. I've seen some heavy ones here that had a ton of comments but some of those people have disappeared come to think of it....

I once posted on FB about a candidate for the political party which I am part of and was slammed to the mat by people who are supposed to be my friends and one is a relative. Wow. I took down the post and haven't commented on anything they have since posted.

I really don't care for controversial topics as I have found that people act differently in those discussions. They become arugumentative, mean and vindictive. I will avoid them if all possible..I would much rather respond to discussions, where I know that things won't get heated.

@AbbyGreenhill I know what you mean. The politics ones seem to be the worse, and I will stay far away from those. I have responded to religious ones, and that is when I had to use the block feature. It is much easier to just do simple topics and leave the controversial ones alone.

I tried to post something controversial but it got reported and deleted. That is the huge risk, some people here can get butt hurt and call their minions and do a report flood.

Hum, something shouldn't be del. just because it's controversial...I guess it depends on what the comments consisted of.

You are right those topics would get a lot of action. However, I personnally try to stay away from Religion and Politics debates, because it is so controversial. I thinnk those topics brings out the worse in people, and I like to have a good relaxing time.

@AbbyGreenhill You got that right! I hate to see things get ugly, because people cannot be nice about it. I think Politics discussions could be fun, but I have only seen them go so bad.

Politics can be discussed in general terms, but it depends on how the comments go - they can turn it ugly in a NY minutes.

At the moment nothing more comes to my mind, you made a good list, all those are topics that I avoid. I even avoid to comment because people can become rude if you do not agree with them.

Truly these topics are "Controversial" but I think if some people can be a bit more tolerant and respect other's views, the "controversy" might be avoided. But that again is "hypothesis".

Most are emotional in nature which result in more of emotional outbursts than reason. They produce more heat than light! I have my own views, but why stir a hornet's nest! One recent issue here was blocking others from responding - siva

Yes, blocking is a hot topic for sure but if I remember most agreed blocking is useless.

I think I would post on some of these, but mostly not. I do not do social sites for the privilege of getting stomped on. I like to feel that my friends and I can agree to disagree. I posted something on my FB intending it to be ironically humorous, but one friend took it personally as being directed at her career. That hurt, as she has been a close friend. One from another side of the states took offense. In a strange twist of fate she put up something this week that got misinterpreted too. Internet is especially bad that way.

I'm afraid this is my escapist destination and I don't tend to read controversial topics. But I agree, there are some things, some topics, that draw more attention than others. I prefer to read about every day lives.
