The power of the wish?

A lot has been written about the secret of success but I was curious how many people believe in the power of the wish? Never underestimate the power of the wish! If you wish for something consistently enough and deeply enough it should come true, making you the luckiest person today. How lucky are you? Remember you can to influence your own personal universe, not put an end to poverty on the other side of the planet. Is it all about the power of positive thinking? Or are you afraid that you are under someone's evil eye? Some cultures believe in the power of the evil eye or the power of dark magic.

I'm way too old to believe that wishing will make it happen....work makes things happen.

No I don't believe that wishing for something will make it happen. You either get it through luck, or do something to make it happen.

In certain cultures luck and wishes are the same thing.

I believe in the power of the Amazon Wish List. It does occasionally bear fruit. Not that I have put any fruit on the list...yet.

Positive thinking makes such a difference, but not easy to start thinking sportive :( I pray more than I wish and hope that can make a difference one day.

I see praying and wishing in this context to be much the same thing. Perversely even an atheist can pray for a specific outcome and this speaking the desire has much to do with making you achieve the specific outcome.

@gudheart I would not phrase things as "I wish I could..." I think it more appropriate to say "My wish/desire/goal is..." it is also what you say after that matters because in my view that should be stated in actionable steps along a path to an overall goal.

@pgiblett True :) I do sometimes say 'oh i wish I could....' without really thinking and really mean I pray I could...

I believe in the power of positive thinking. I have been wishing (or praying) for a solution to a problem and it finally was answered.

I think we can do a lot with a wish, but we have to keep on wishing, not merely do it the once.

Yepperz!! Mine believe in the power of the evil eye or dark magic. I think I believe it too now. I used to scoff at it first. But can't explain the weird things that I have seen... Anyways yes the positive thinking and power of wish works. But first we have to deal with another evil that is FEAR.

Even if there is the power of black magic, it will not be able to hurt us for long. There will be a way to break the hold of black magic, that is the reason that temples and churches are everywhere in the world for the sake of the people. Many people misuse the power of the mind in that they wish for bad things to happen to people they do not like. In the end, they are hurting themselves.

There are some people that hurt themselves because they are convinced that someone has put evil eyes on them or their family. The power of their mind has taken over. My Brother in law was one of these people, I am convinced his belief that he had been cursed killed him.

I believe in the power of the wish. I think that wishing something deeply can have an influence. Southern Italian believe in the evil eye. I am not superstitious, but I have notices that some people have a dark aura.

I am actually inclined to agree with you about the power of positive thinking. However, it's completely vague in connection between wish and fortune.

If you read into each they are in some cultures interconnected, but in others distinct. Certain Hindu beliefs group them, but in the west they are not connected for example.

I believe and have seen it in my life that when I think something will happen, it will, so I try to be positive with my thinking.

I have been thinking as time goes on that you have to write the words down and make the wish every day.

I can believe in the power of the wish although I haven't heard it put like that before. We've achieved quite a few things I guess but they all started with a 'wish' of some sort.

I formed the question based on something I was reading in a book about Indian luck rituals.

I don't rely on wishes, I rely on prayer, and trusting the Lord to meet my needs.

@pgiblett ...Peter at the risk of sounding weird and bringing religion in between, I really like muslim women. We have had two muslim tenants both ladies have been such gems that I can't believe women are so nice. I hate it when some people take it on themselves to say they are bad, including my papa. Our tenants have been gems as human beings as well. One of them recently bought a house, and invited us over. He wanted to include whatever I liked in the menu. His wife is loved in the entire colony. I don't like our politicians who like to keep differences alive. This lady's daughter adores me and I adore her too.

"I wish I was a neutron bomb, for once I could go off I wish I was a sacrifice but somehow still lived on I wish I was a sentimental ornament you hung on The Christmas tree, I wish I was the star that went on top I wish I was the evidence, I wish I was the grounds For 50 million hands upraised and open toward the sky I wish I was a sailor with someone who waited for me I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me I wish I was a messenger and all the news was good I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood I wish I was an alien at home behind the sun I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on I wish I was the pedal brake that you depended on I wish I was the verb 'to trust' and never let you down I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up I wish... I wish..." -Pearl Jam I see no harm in trying, but at the end of the day I am still only going to believe what my eyes tell me or shows me.

I'm all for having a "vision." But a "wish" makes it sound like someone else is going to do it for you. I'm with @AbbyGreenhill. Hard work makes things happen. My speaker refinishing pretend-business started with one pair of speakers. Then I thought, Hey I could keep doing this! The rest is history.
